Why has Sony not announced a follow up to one of its most beloved games of all time already?
Maybe you should cool it on the THC

I am absolutely sure this game was hinted at VGA.
Shadows die twice hey? Not sure if that is a whole new ip with that very name, a bloodborne 2 teaser or a new tenchu teaser. Shadows die twice could easily be a bloodborne 2 teaser, "twice" Implying a sequel (2) in addition the teaser itself had a lot of blood on that device, the biggest theme in bloodborne and looked somewhat like a weapon/device that fits the setting/time period of bloodborne... Eh but who knows
@Eonjay "I am absolutely sure this game was hinted at VGA." Not familiar with Tenchu series, are you? Unfortunely, a Bloodborne sequel is pretty much unlikely in near future. Miyazaki is working on From Software´s new IPs, and Japan Studios did a poor job supporting Bloodborne. To this day they did not delivered a PS4 Pro enhanced patch and stop support this game in less than an year.
I’d also like another LittleBigPlanet game from Sony “It’s as though the game didn’t do well, either” The sentence doesn’t make grammatical sense. I think the author meant to say “It isn’t as though the game didn’t sell well,” especially since the author admits the game did sell well. “its sales were well over 2 million units worldwide, which is a great result by any standard, and also squarely puts it over the sales of games like inFamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Ratchet and Clank, and LittleBigPlanet 3.” Also, according to these estimates http://www.vgchartz.com/gam... Killzone: Shadow Fall and inFamous: Second Son sold more than Bloodborne.
Vgchartz is known for being inaccurate..... Bloodborne doesn’t really need a sequel. The game ended in away that brought closure to the hunter’s story. I personally would like another Bloodborne, but the original developer has stated they’re moving away from souls-type games.
stated that moving from Dark Souls games. there is plenty of story to be told in Bloodborne. the Bloodborne 2 does not have to be a sequel.
Miyazaki said that he was finished with Dark Souls, never mentioned Bloodborne. Even if From didn't return to Bloodbourne 2, it was co-developed by Sony's Japan Studio, and from what I heard, they're the ones that came up with the concept of Bloodborne, but wanted to collab with From on the game. So, I'm pretty sure even if From didn't return, a sequel could still come. I think all great games deserve a sequel, if there's an idea and demand for one, and Bloodborne is one of those games.
Well technically he said he had 2 playstation exclusive in the makes. A sequel to a game and brand new IP. Either bloodborne or demon souls
It is not just VG Chartz reporting these numbers.
@thatguyhayat "Well technically he said he had 2 playstation exclusive in the makes. A sequel to a game and brand new IP. Either bloodborne or demon souls" Where did you get this info from?
VGChartz estimates are absolute garbage. They undertrack most PS4 exclusives. https://www.gamespot.com/ar... Sony themselves confirmed by TGS in 2015 which is in September they sold 2 million copies. That's 2 million copies in 6 months. Unless you seriously believe that its sales dropped off a cliff and it ONLY did 950,000 since that sales milestone. Bloodborne continued to sell hot right through Christmas that year. Pretty sure it has sold much more than the 3 million VGchartz think it has.
even 3 million is a sizable number. Some games sell 500k or are lucky to hit 1 million. But there's no doubting that Bloodborne sold incredibly well and some can argue it wasn't a great game but it was.
they dont count digital sales u dummy. Now we will all believe your underinformed opinion........
its a fact that they undertrack them though.
@ Sci & Chev VGC doesn’t account for digital sales
Bingo. Bloodborne probably sold over 2.5 to 3 million. Still very good.
That's true, but, my point is it was one of the top selling games that year and did 2 million in a short amount of time. My store still regularly stocks Bloodborne and at $19.99 we still sell copies regularly. Its been almost 3 years since it released. My store still stocks Bloodborne 3 years later whereas say Gears of War 4 we don't stock regularly any more and that came out only a year and a half ago.
The link didn’t say that Bloodborne didn’t sell well, it only showed that Killzone: Shadow Fall and inFamous: Second Son sold more. It’s commendable since all titles sold over 3 million
I don't know :(
They possibly already did
From Software is working on different games so one of them could be Bloodborne
Not every great game needs a sequel.
No, but it would be nice to have a sequel to Bloodborne.
Because they are currently focusing on a Demon's Souls remaster? Here's to hoping. XD
Nah they are working on a new IP I think and a new Armored Core at least FROM is.. Sony Japan Studio could be cooking something up tho seeing as how they collaborated with FROM on BB.
Well the article is asking why Sony isn't doing anything about it. And both Demon's Souls and BB are Sony ip's. With the Demon's Souls servers shutting down at the end of the month I was hoping that we would get a DS announcement at some point. I'd hate to think that Demon's Souls is done for good.
@Vanfernal "I'd hate to think that Demon's Souls is done for good." Yeah, me too. It´s up to Sony if we´ll ever to see a sequel for this franchise.
Ps5 launch title Sony isn't dumb lol
I don't think they will sit on this for another few years. They'll release it for PS4 with its larger install base
They can make Demon's Souls 2 (or remaster) instead.
i have a feeling if Sony does it at all, it will be a title for the PS5
when the PS5 releases, they will need some headline titles to sell it. having Bloodborne 2 or other From exclusive will help a lot. maybe they'll give existing PS4 owners a Demon Souls remaster
Guess you guys ain't satisfied with the other games similar to it.
Bloodborne is pretty much the best the genre has to offer though
Can't deny that, simply an epic game.
Multiplatform are not enough. That's the beauty of being a PlayStation user, having choices that others don't have.
Dark Souls 3 isn't enough because it's multiplatform? That is ridiculous.
Not when the other games don't even come close to the masterpiece.
I'm looking forward to the Dark Souls remastee, since i haven't played it yet
My guess is they are tied up on the new Armored Core and / or a new IP. Doesn't mean Sony Japan Studio isn't working on it tho
Who's to say that's not one of the things they're working on right now?
IMO Sony has their exclusive calendar full for at least the next 12 to 18mos if not 2yrs so really no room for Bloodborne 2. Also Sony will want the same dev to make the next BB and their kinda busy for now. Plus you have Dark Souks 3, Dark Souls 2 remastered and with BB that's a lot of Souls games the last 3, 4yrs and then we have the upcoming Dark Souls 1 remastered releasing this May so with so many Sony exclusives coming and so many Souls games already available there's just no need for BloodBorne 2. With all that said IMO BB2 will be a PS5 game and maybe a PS5 day 1 release if we're lucky.
calendar is full, plus face it, this gen will start winding down. i agree, at this point BB2 would be for PS5 if it happens at all
for one thing, like Demon's Souls, the story is self-contained and complete. i'd rather Sony charter Team Ninja for another Nioh to release after Ghosts of Tsushima... my feeling is FromSoftware would like to move on from Souls-like games...
Their portfolio is so diverse, I'm sure they'd like to express their creativity elsewhere as well and not get stuck doing one type of game. Really looking forward to a new Tenchu.
Sony doesn't milk all their games. Many big franchises will only see 1 or 2 games in a generation.
They did 3 Uncharted games for PS3,4 R&C games for the PS2 including 6 R&C games for the PS3.
Uncharted 3 was in 2011. UC4 in 2016. Legacy is DLC that they sold standalone at a reduced priced. Yes, they did milk R&C. I said they don't milk them all, not they they never do.
Not sure. I'm quite surprised too. I would love to see what Bloodborne II would be like. Maybe we will see it on the next Playstation console.
Because they have way too many other games that have been announced that has yet to drop.
I really want Souls of Olympus... Greek legends, myths and monsters. Ever since seeing Majula with it's Mediterranean look, and being a fan of the mythology.
My mate loves BB to bits and doesn't want a sequel because he feels it was perfect as a standalone game. I liked it a lot and want a sequel, either viewpoint makes sense. Sometimes you should leave art alone if you don't have anything better to follow it up.
It bombed if I remember correctly
You do not.
Sold close to three million. That's alot more than most exclusives on these systems. So it didn't actually bombed especially for a niche title.
No, that was XBO.
You don't have a great memory then. It's also one of the highest rated games this gen :) sorry for breaking down your hopes
If Bloodborne 'bombed' what does that say about pretty much all xbone exclusives then lol. Bombed my a55.
Your comment bombed.
@Chief Not surprised you're uninformed or are just stealth trolling. https://www.gamespot.com/ar... If 2 million copies in 6 months is 'bombing' then pretty much all of Xbox catologue for example 'bombed' then. Games like Assassins Creed 'bombed' as well based on that logic.
Because patience is a virtue and waiting quietly for it to happen in its own time will be the best reward. (for me then) Their is no need to rush it
Probably not far enough into development to announce yet
Most probably From Software will have a few announcements at E3, they have already said back in 2016 they were working on three games. This is pretty much the biggest silence there has been From Software in their history, meaning they haven't released a game since 2016... my guess... you will see two titles in 2019 and probably one in 2020. Sony owns the Bloodborne IP so it is possible that Japan Studio can either do it or subcontract out a Bloodborne out as well. From Software has already confirmed working on three titles... one being an Armored Core title. The Dark Souls Remastered is being handled by a third party. The rumor from 2014 was that Sony and From Software had a 3 game deal with Bloodborne being the first title. It is possible that for instance that Bloodborne just on the PS4 outsold Dark Souls III across both PS4/Xbox One. So, it makes sense for the IP to continue for both Sony and From Software. Time will tell, my guess you will see at least two announcements come e3 from them. Sony owns both Demon Souls and Bloodborne, but hard seeing them do anything other than a remastered/remake of Demon Souls without From Software.
