It Isn't The Graphics That Makes Shadow of the Colossus PS4 Great

At first glance it's hard to ignore, Shadow of the Colossus is a remarkable remake of the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. The visuals are breathtaking, the organic hair on each colossi sways and waves with each movement as the protagonist struggles to maintain his grip. It's a beautiful game but it's not the graphics that makes Shadow of the Colossus great, it's everything the original game accomplished.

Well of course, it’s just a nice addition on top of the great foundation

When does solely graphics make anything great

mikeslemonade2264d ago (Edited 2264d ago )

The graphics aren't even comparable to current gen graphics. They're just a great overhaul compared to the original. The gap from the original or remaster is huge for a good $40 value.

They actually are. The graphics on this game rival current games. The textures and lighting are really good

OpenGL2264d ago

I think the graphics for the most part hold up well with current-gen console standards. The only PS4 games I'd really put ahead of it are things like Horizon, Uncharted 4 / Lost Legacy, and Ratchet & Clank.

tontontam02264d ago

Same thought when I saw the reveal last year.

but after actually playing it, graphics are on par with current AAA games. the color tone makes it looks like last gen graphic in the "trailers", we are so used to seeing brightly colored games this gen.

Atticus_finch2264d ago

Come on Mike at 1080p and still looks and runs better than all of the Xbox library. Even digital foundry said the game topped the Witcher 3.

SuperSonic912264d ago

I find it interesting that even with minimalistic approach this game works its magic with everyone at home. Their eyes get pulled in to keep on looking amd looking

BlaqMagiq12264d ago

That's a pretty dumb statement to make seeing that it rivals some of the best graphical games this gen.

Dark_Knightmare22264d ago

Bro the game easily looks like a PS4 game what are you smoking?

mikeslemonade2263d ago (Edited 2263d ago )

@Atticus_Finch

I just watched the entire video of digital foundry. He doesn't say it's any better than Witcher 3. The game doesn't contend with the top games of this generation in graphics. Because it still has some of the PS2/PS3 look to it in some respects.

The hameplay here never gets old even if its simple.
Every game mechanic make sense in the situatins Wander gets put in.
Like crouching atop a tower prevents you from falling down when Cenobia rams it.
Just finished it on Hard mode.

InKnight7s2264d ago

I mean Horizon in same boat but graphics prove that high end graphics can also be a major success.

SuperSonic912264d ago

The simplicity of this game makes it all the more beautiful to behold.

AspiringProGenji2264d ago (Edited 2264d ago )

I don’t remember the oroginal having that zoom in when pressing R2. I just discovered that and it looks so damn epic when climbing the colossi and stabbing them. My fav feature thus far

A great game is a great game.. The graphics is just the cherry on top.. $40 for this is very reasonable.. I would like to see a new project soon.. TLG tried but this is hard to top

Daman Shelley from NoobFeed writes - Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. I can still hear the title screen music in my head after nearly 12 years. Loved every minute of it.

MrNinosan98d ago

I have no issues filling my time til DD2.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will probably me more than enough.
More terrified I won't be done in time.

DivineHand12598d ago

Try not to burn yourself out before the game releases. This is going to be a long and immersive RPG like the first one.

The games in this article are all great and I believe the people who are excited for Dragons Dogma 2 probably already played most of those games.

For now, I recommend you prepare yourself for long play sessions if you will be picking up Dragons Dogma at launch.
