Switch vs Wii – VGChartz Gap Charts – December 2017 Update

December 2017 is the 10th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month the Switch has retaken the lead when compared to the first 10 months of the Wii. The Switch outsold the Wii by 3.47 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the Wii by 2.11 million units.

The Wii launched in November 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. The Switch has sold 13.36 million units, while the Wii sold 11.25 million units during the same timeframe.

Wow it actually beat Wii in the same timeframe, never saw that coming

Ultimately Switch will be the more successful console since its sales won’t nosedive in three years and it better caters to core audiences

It should. The Wii was supply constrained for nearly 2 years. Switch is also selling to handheld enthusiast, so it has the chance of being one of their best selling devices. The only problem would be Nintendo pulling the plug on the Switch too soon, their devices are generally on a 5 - 6 year window.

Well they just went on record to say that they want to support the Switch for much longer than their traditional home consoles 5-6 year lifespan, so that's good.
