Ive never played this series and im interested. Anyone have a quick opinion/comparison?

I had the original on the DS and made my way through a good portion of the game. I will be picking up this remake and look forward to diving back in. The story is interesting, classic turn based gameplay plenty of meaty content an underrated gem. Reminds me of old school PS1/SNES jrpgs, also a slight Chrono Trigger feel plotwise.

It's one of the best RPGs on the original DS (and I don't say this lightly). You bounce back and forth between two timelines to find a culprit who is messing with events in each to cause the world to spiral further out of control. Storytelling is a simple affair for most of the game, with a lot of it being the world building that occurs between two timelines that you have to solve in order to overcome problems. Worldbuilding is on the level of a light Trails in the Sky- visiting characters at different points of the story and in different timelines will oftentimes result in different dialogue, with the side quests being quite insightful to a wide variety of events and background characters. You'll elicit a lot of responses comparing this to Chrono Trigger, but there's a lot more realistic fantasy elements to it due to its focus on war, military, and world building (high fantasy, I think it's called? I'm iffy on the term. Like, Lord of the Rings is more of a realistic fantasy approach than Hyperdimension Neptunia, lol, is what I mean. Hopefully that hyperbole gets my intention across)

Combat takes place on a 3x3 grid and, for a lot of the game, you will compile damage by pushing multiple enemies into the same panel on the grid to do damage to multiple foes in one attack. You can also pass a turn to chain more consecutive turns later, have a special meter, etc.. I don't really have a solid comparison for combat (the *view* of the combat is like Mega Man Battle Network, but the gameplay of the combat is JRPG turn-chain systems with a light strategy element in combat due to the presentation of the grid).

The music is phenomenal. Best on the DS, bar none.

Top 10 3DS Games You Should Download Before They're Gone Forever From The Nintendo eShop

Daav from NoobFeed writes - Nintendo has announced that both the 3DS and Wii U eShops are on the way out. Though the company preempts the news by saying that downloads will still work "for the foreseeable future," that message also implies that your games will disappear at some point. We've enabled consumption at our fingertips, which companies have gladly used to erode the terms of game ownership. As always, convenience comes at a much higher cost down the road and, well, that time has come

TY. Saw list but page didn't fully load. Deletinf comment.

There is absolutely nothing defining about dragon age XI. It was a good game but didn't do anything new or substantial for the genre....as well as most of the games on this list.

Poopmist1636d ago

It's just every JRPG cliche in one game with boring combat. There are many better JRPGS than it

Lighter91635d ago (Edited 1635d ago )

Anime characters, mechs (maybe) same character types, etc. You could almost take a few games at random and switch the characters around and it would be the same.

NPCs are crap. The ones in Persona 5 might as well not exist. The character animations are crap too.

I played through both Xenoblade and Fire Emblem Awakening recently and they are amazing games

I played every game on the list and can't argue that each is awesome. I might have added FFXV somewhere but that is a personal preference.

Xenoblade Chronicles needs a graphical upgrade. The limitations of the Wii really show. Xenoblade Chronicles X, looked and played fantastic on Wii U. I picked up The OG Xenoblade Chronicles, after playing X on Wii U. I just couldn't get over the blurriness of the OG.

You're in luck, it's getting one on Switch next year. And they're adding unfinished content from the original game.
