“I'll block these brainless camera whiner idiots immediately ->RT @Jazzinghen: @foxylover66 Over the shoulder camera is fine, really”
I have to agree
It works well in The Evil Within 2.
The Evil Within 2 is underrated as hell...it's where I could have seen Resident Evil go if they dialled up the horror a little bit more.
is the original any good?
The evil within one, in my opinion, has a great claustrophobic dark grittiness feel to it that I love! It's story (believe it or not) is a little more consistent than the evil within 2 as well, although it may be a little harder to uncover. However, the evil within 2 knows and loves the fact that it is a game, and despite some narrative shortcomings, what you will see in that game at times will blow your mind. It's also not as dark and gritty as the first, but definitely relishes in its own graphics, setting, and mood. A fantastic experience for survival horror fans.
Mista2019 I think it is...but I do think it has problems. I'd say a solid 7.5/10 but the sequel is like a huge improvement, like what you saw going into Assassins Creed 2 from the first one. A great 9/10 in my opinion.
The game concept is great, but it is ruined with some weird design choices of how of a crippled character Castellanos is in the game. The aiming is weird as fu(K, cant "run" for more than 10 secs (at a very slow speed), does not have corner stealth kills (you must buy the damn upgrade in order to do it, which is ridiculous), even crouching you make noise, so you need to go ultra slow in order to avoid being spotted. But because of that doing stealth kills is almost impossible in the first chapters in the game, because you cant catch up with the "zombie" while he is showing the back at you. While he is going away, If you go faster in order to catch him you make noise and get spotted, and fu(ked. The game is actually playable when you are in the half of the game because you have bought a lot of the character upgrades in order to compensate for the character ineptitude.
That game is shi*, and i didn't think it could get any worse than the original.
I don't mind the over the shoulder perspective, as long as they do it right. It can even be better.
Once you go over the shoulder you can never go back, especially back to unwieldy tank controls
Exactly...RE7 should have stuck to this God Capcom should have not allowed this man to go...they were doing so well though by themselves before they decided to add co-op in RE5 which changed the ideas during RE4.5 development plans They need to take the Remake games and create a new timeline from them...get up to RE4 and change things. Like a Code Veronica remake-retelling where Leon goes off to save Claire instead of Chris and Wesker has "help" from Ada. Then for RE5 they can use the original ideas of Jill, Barry and Chris going to Africa. http://www.relyonhorror.com... Good way to please both fans
No, the first person was fine because the horror element was there. It was something that worked well. Resident evil 6 sucked because it was more of an action shooter
The horror element was half arsed. It just felt like a huge step because like you've literally just said RE6 sucked, RE5 was action focused aswell, Revelations and Revelations 2 were still action like with co-op, ORC...Umbrella Corps. Put something a small step in the right direction next to all these other average to shit products and it's going to look 10 times better. You guys seriously act like it HAD to be in first person, they could easily have made the game scary without it. It wasn't needed at all. Play RE7, then play the RE Remake...you'll see the difference and how a game from 12 years ago still holds up today.
I'm going to have to agree with brave with this at the end of the day over the shoulder fixed camera first person view is actually just preference it doesn't actually change but you're physically doing in the actual game. @fox-Both the Remake and Resident Evil 7 are both great Resident Evil games that have literally some of the same exact elements...
EDMIX RE7 has "half arsed" elements of the first game...seriously anyone who says they play the same are lying to themselves. It has elements but not ones which fully commit to the older games...like I've said we've just been flooded with action based Resident Evil games that anything was going to look like an improvement Anyway people can disagree all they like, once the RE2 Remake comes out people will change their tune and they'll praise it.
@fox- not really. What are the specific elements are talking about exactly? Be specific... All Resident Evil 7 needed to be to be like the original games is simply have limited ammo limited Weaponry limited health item boxes, puzzles and unique backtracking. That is more than enough for me. And I also have no clue what you're talking about in terms of people changing their "tune" I actually believe Resident Evil fans like both tones of horror from Resident Evil 1 to 2. Resident Evil 2 was more action-based. Also relax on the divisive post I'm not sure why you keep trying to turn everything into an either-or. I like Resident Evil 1 in regards to it's closed in nature in focus on Survival horror and I like Resident Evil 2 in regards to its open Nature and action. Relax. I still don't understand why you keep trying to fight people as if it's an either-or situation. I like what they did with Resident Evil 7 I'll be completely fine if they keep it first person with Resident Evil 8 so long as it simply has the elements of Resident Evil, and I will be completely fine with Resident Evil 2 over the shoulder. The perspective is actually irrelevant and only based on preference.
res 6 was a bay movie lol
The first person element was definitely added only to accommodate VR.
In all fairness, only a fool would think otherwise. First person was preferred by Capcom, in order to accommodate VR. Fanboys will deny it till the day they die, but thankfully, I don't care, and I call them as I see them.
Over the shoulder has been done for 5 resident evil games, it was time for a change.
The camera angles does not alter the quality of the game. If they had made it horror based instead of action then games after RE4 would have been good. They didn't do that and ignore us. It's like saying change Halo since every main game has been first person...it''s a silly excuse.
Nothing wrong with RE7. Sure it didnt have to be first person but it didnt hurt it. It felt like the older RE but in first person. Personally I think they could alternate between first person and over the shoulder like Evil within 2 with different installments. That way they keep their creative juices flowing with the two different perspectives.
"It felt like the older RE but in first person" 10000% agreed it seems like some people have a hard time understanding this and it sounds like to me like they loved the perspective of the older RE more than they actually did the actual damn game. "Personally I think they could alternate between first person and over the shoulder like Evil within 2 with different installments." Agreed. Or like what we see what the Fallout and Elder Scrolls. This is definitely not impossible. Maybe that being done could show people that the perspective of the game is actually quite irrelevant compared to its overall features and elements. I never played Resident Evil simply because I could see someone's back and butt 😂😂😂 28514; I'd like to think that people are playing games more than just to look at someone's back....
res 7 first person view was awesome res 8 will be the same
I don't agree sorry I much prefer the tank controls and fixed camera. Like the Resident Evil Remake. It's what made the classics so good and scary. You just didn't know what was around the corner. Hope the remake of Resident Evil 2 keeps the classic camera and controls. Or at least give us an option. It's why am looking forward to Daymare 1998 (was suppose to be fan remake of Resident Evil 2 until Capcom put a stop to it and then announced they where remaking Resident Evil 2).
Over the shoulder is the best.
Yeah I have no issue with it!
I preferred over the shoulder but RE7 was fun. I never played a RE before 4 and I doubt I could. I used to love onimusha but the tank controls made it unplayable for me recently.
To sit here and write these things off and call them "unplayable" because you can't be arsed to turn yourself before you move forward. Wow. I'd hate to see your reaction to truly bad controls if you gave up on Onimusha just because of this.
Yes. I said unplayable for me. Why are you so amazed? I have a backlog that could close the southern border and I “can’t be arsed” to relearn and get comfortable with tank controls. They are better as memories. To sit here and be astonished by such a simple statement I’d hate to see you ponder anything of significant value.
Over the shoulder is highly dependent on the design of the game. Old RE's, and similar games, were designed to create tension by obscuring the player's perspective and vision. This can't be done with over the shoulder of course, so, the game has to be adjusted because of it. I like both myself. I still play old game PS1 era games with static cameras, and they are fine too. If the game is good, the game is good, and camera/perspective really shouldn't be the make or break factor in it. IMO at least.
They're both fine, frankly. Both have strengths and weaknesses. I hate when game journos try to gin up controversy of benign comments. "Oh, but people on the internet complained." Yeah, welcome to the internet. Hardly newsworthy.
Over the should is fine but you need to have a dedicated button to switch shoulders. I always think of Socom and Ghost Recon in 2004. Socom used a view that was centered but up a little so you can see everything. That made it so you don't need to use a button to switch shoulders. In Ghost Recon, they use a should view which in my opinion, just makes it more difficult for the user to see. AND you need to use a button to change it wasting a button. Once again, a view that hinders your view can be better for a horror type game though.
I always feel like seeing your character is more immersive (for me). I can actually see the character and how the character reacts to the world.
At least this article was on the opinion about camera angles and not bras.
Uggghh I was really hoping for fixed camera angles. This is just going to feel like the Revelations series now.
over the shoulder is fine as long as they do it right For example : dead space 1 was so damn good and evil within 2
I have zero issues to over the shoulder. I actually prefer this the most.
Over the shoulder is fine yeah, just not what I had imagined for RE2 remake. But this explains why we haven't heard anything. I think a lot of us thought this was going to be a remake similar to the original game's remake especially after it did so well with the remasters. But it seems like they have decided to completely re-imagine the game, which would take much more time to develop even if the story and characters are already there. Could end up feeling like a new game entirely. I'll have to wait and see what they come up with before assuming anything about how RE2R will turn out. I just really don't want them to mess this up.
People b*tching about over the shoulder are just nostalgic freaks and are in the minority.
Haha, I love this man.
One of my all time favorite games RE2 I'd have to agree. Loved 3 to when they introduced nemesis, remember beeing on edge never knowing when that sucker would bust through the wall at you lol
Fixed camera or over the shoulder would dom Please not First person!!. Over the shoulder worked well with RE Revelations 1 and 2. Those games were close to the classic RE games when it comes to horror unlike 4-6 even if 4 was a great game it was not scary.
I think if it was fixed camera angles it would have been out by now. RE4 type gameplay is the safe bet in what to expect. And after playing evil within 2 and RE7 that's the kind of gameplay I really want.
Im good with that.. I didnt want this to be a FPS despite RE7s success..
For years Capcom has been overshadowed by it's former employees.
Over the shoulder is fine . But I mean the amount of foes at a time in the OG Resident evil’s made the OG view more creepy and tense. I personally would prefer the Resident 2 Remake like Resi 1 Remake and Zero . Don’t get me wrong Resi 4 was great but nothing , no where near the originals in the survival horror department compared to 1 and 2. If they do go third person then please add a shit load more zombies and less ammo to at least make it more tense like how resident evil 2 was. Resident Evil 2 was one of my all time favourite games as a teen . And I just hope they don’t go and spoil it by making it more accessible by people who don’t give a shit
If these idiots release this game like that shi* ff remake people are going to be pissed, and it will be the end of capcom.
HEY GUYS Hideki Kamiya never said "Over Shoulder Camera" is fine. This is a fan opinion and actually it's only a replay from Hideki. In other words, everything comes after RT isn't Hideki Kamiya words...
He annoying that people still think he working with capcom and ask him not to make Remake 2 as an OTS. https://twitter.com/PG_kami...
It's fine but they need to stick with horror, non of that action crap. On the original RE games you see zombies and you run and try to take them out from a distance. Since RE4 you run towards a mob, you shoot one guy in the face and then do a spinning back kick that makes 9 guys fall to the floor. They need to make zombies overwhelming again. And non of those RE6 House of the Dead style zombies that would hit you with shovels and operated cranks on traps at underground dungeons. What was the deal with that???
Have to agree
i prefer first person or VR, never got into third person games horror as much. Dead Space was fun but it really never was scary to me just startling, and jump scares and terror arent the same thing. Resident Evil controls werent scary as much as frustrating.
