Is the Switch Getting Too Many Ports?

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "The Nintendo Switch has roared out of the gate and has quickly made Nintendo a relevant player in the console side of the video game business again. This was accomplished through a combination of offering interesting hardware that features a unique selling point and pairing it with games that typically only come out once every few years like the smash hit titles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. But one of the most important reasons as to why the Switch is finding the success the Wii U didn’t is how Nintendo has managed to plug the holes in its release calendar, delivering a major release almost every 30 days in the Switch’s first year. But has the system built too much of its catalogue on old games?"

Considering Switch can provide can experience unlike any other console right now, in portable mode, I'd love to see even more ports on it. I can see the issue of "too many ports" rising up for those who play a lot of games, for sure, but for many people, these might be games that they've never otherwise played e.g. indie titles.

Even if you're re-buying a game, you're getting to play it in a new way -- that's a big part of it, I think,

JaguarEvolved123d ago

If someone hasn't played some of the newer ports then it's definitely new to them but my problem is thast Nintendo ported games costs too much money. I see games on switch costing full price while you can get same game elsewhere for 80 percent less than on the switch. The switch version will always be a lower quality version so I don't see why they should cost so much money. Some will say the switch is portable so you can play it outside but I'm an adult so I only play games when I'm home. I know some are children or don't have much to do so they can carry around a toy to play with in parks or at their job because it might not be too important

Your opinion was completely valid and understandable up until this point. Next time, leave the trollish remarks out of your statements and people might take them more seriously.

It sounds like I'm trolling to you because I'm expressing my opinion on the switch which seems like it's something you may do often so you're offended. It's ok for you to carry around your switch everywhere and play it because you might have a lot of free time on your job or when you're out and about without people to interact with. A lot of Nintendo fanboys like to justify the price of switch games and majority of the negatives about the switch because its portable but the portability aspect of the switch I think is meant for children. I know a lot of grown men thinks the switch is meant for them so to each their own. Hopefully you can play your Nintendo labo at work too sir

Nintendo needs more games on the switch and it needs a lot of them . Ports and new games

Monster_Tard122d ago

So playing games stationary is what adults do and playing non-stationary is for children and people who don't have important jobs? -.^

That's an odd point of view. Yet you like PSVR and don't see anything kiddie about being in your room with a piece of headgear on, flailing your arms at objects that aren't actually there?

doos_vd_kak122d ago

From my experience, the only people that talk badly about the switch, are people who dont own a switch. I was like that too, until i actually got a switch. it's a brilliant device.

" From my experience, the only people that talk badly about the switch, are people who dont own a switch. I was like that too, until i actually got a switch. it's a brilliant device."

Here's my gaming setup and you can clearly see that I also have a switch. You can like whatever you are into but to think that people are lying about the switch because they have an opinion on it that differs from yours is silly. You are clearly a fanboy if you think that if someone doesn't like everything about the switch they are liars.

"you like PSVR and don't see anything kiddie about being in your room with a piece of headgear on, flailing your arms at objects that aren't actually there?"

You think playing the psvr at home is childish and akin to playing a toy meant for children ( switch) at work?

Monster_Tard122d ago

No personally I don't, I just don't see how one could have the opinion of playing games portably is childish and have a different opinion of putting on virtual reality headgear and pretending virtual objects and beings are around them.

I don't even own a Switch, it just annoys me when people pretend like they're more mature because they prefer to game on a different piece of plastic.

WeebLord122d ago

And what did a lot of remasters launch at price wise on the PS4 and XB1? Ohhhh right full price.

The publishers set their prices, Switch games will always be inherently pricier due to the cards the games come on. Blaming Nintendo or the Switch is funny.

septemberindecember122d ago

"It sounds like I'm trolling to you because I'm expressing my opinion on the switch which seems like it's something you may do often so you're offended."

You are perfectly able to express your opinion without attempting to insult people who may not share your opinion. Again, the first two-three sentences were understandable, but the last two (and your response to my comment) are just trying to insult a particular group of people because of your limited understanding.

"It's ok for you to carry around your switch everywhere and play it because you might have a lot of free time on your job or when you're out and about without people to interact with."

I don't have "free time" at my job, and when I'm being social I'm being social. I don't look at my cellphone much less my Switch. I can play the Switch on my lunch breaks, if I'm waiting at the DMV, going to the mechanic, or simply when the TV is hogged (all things I got to do this week due to getting my car registered). That isn't free time, that's down time. Luckily the Switch made it enjoyable enough.

"Hopefully you can play your Nintendo labo at work too sir"

Not interested in Labo, not sure what gave you that idea.

NiteX122d ago

I'm a grown ass man and I play my Switch at work. To be fair I work at home. But seriously you must not live near a big city, because I've seen many adults play the Switch outside.

BadElf122d ago

That's the upsetting thing. I agree. Okay cool, we got Doom for example....but the price of it compared to other systems. Too expensive for a lot of them

NXFather122d ago

Or you might be jealous because they are more boss than you.

NXFather122d ago

Also you may have well said video games are childish.

Portable = experience unlike any other? Yes, I guess playing on a small screen is unlike any other.

FlyingFoxy122d ago

Bit of a useless comment, handhelds are held closer to your face. There's such a thing as viewing something up close you know.. Plus you aren't forced to play it as a portable.

Did you expect a huge chunky 10"+ screen which would be difficult to handle in some situations?

yomfweeee122d ago

@FlyingFoxy

I didn't say there wasn't an advantage to portable, but it isn't an experience like anything else. BOTW portable is the same as BOTW on the TV.

masterfox122d ago

"Considering Switch can provide can experience unlike any other console right now, in portable mode", yeah because remote play doesn't exist, right ?, and also you can have a real console game portability, why?, because is streaming straight from your PS4 console, and use on any smartphone, tablet,PC, laptop or vita, oh and also you can use your DS4 controller ;).

Scatpants122d ago

You seem to have forgotten to mention that that sucks and is unreliable in most situations.

G3ng4r122d ago

Lol remote play. Enjoy your input lag and ps4 games on your phone in range of your wifi.
Also pc has other games to play, no thanks.

TekoIie121d ago

Yeh sorry stop bragging about remote play.

It's not as good as your claiming unless input lag is your thing and that's when I'm using at home. It's like if I were to praise Nintendo's attempt at voice chat. It's there but it's a terrible way to implement a feature.

It is pretty funny watching people get excited about six year old games.....

Neonridr123d ago

geez.. are we actually complaining about the number of games the Switch is getting now? I would rather have ports along with new titles rather than waiting for just new titles.

fonger08123d ago

Must...find...fault... must...break...momentum

WPX122d ago

Indeed. Couldn't say it better myself.

Eonjay122d ago

All platforms have gotten tons of ports.

TekoIie121d ago

Yeh especially this gen. Weren't the first 2 years of the PS4 and XB1 filled with ports and collections?

wofucuga122d ago

Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Friday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 5 weeks past. I began this 6-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $85 per hour.. Go this web and start your work.. Good luck....

Fist4achin122d ago

She probably sold all of her ports to get that BMW

fenome122d ago

I was thinking the same thing. More games is more games, there's nothing to complain about that.

Too many options 6/10. Lol

FallenAngel1984123d ago

You can never have too many ports

Scatpants122d ago

780 trillion is too many. You'd never be able to try them all. Most would probably be shovelware it's that top 472 billion you want to focus on.

ShinnokDrako123d ago

Wait, let me understand... are they complaining because the Switch is getting too many games?! Ports or not, it's good if a console gets games, since when it's negative?

ConsoleGamer122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

"Ports or not, it's good if a console gets games, since when it's negative?"

It was negtive since the early ps4 days, at least. I don't get why though. If games are port worthy then go for it devs!

Prince-Ali122d ago

thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu loool

SurgicalMenace122d ago

Is it too hard to understand that with upgrading a game, there are cost involved to do so. Down grading a game is also necessary to optimize it to run, but like vita games that release alongside their PS3 or PS4 counterpart, there is a price reduction because the quality is reduced. JS

WPX121d ago

"The Vita is a more capable machine..."

DOOM at 30fps vs Borderlands 2 slideshow. Indeed more capable. /s

FreddyFazbear122d ago

PS Vita gets so many ports even though it has exclusives and yet gets criticized by Everyone!! But the Switch gets a pass from both journalist and Fans except for a few like this article.

Neonridr122d ago

doubtful. The Switch gets considerably more games than the Vita does.

Prince-Ali122d ago

@Neonridr
But the Vita has more games point blank period so your point is irrelevant...

Neonridr122d ago

@Prince-Ali - perhaps in it's lifespan. I am talking about the last 10 months. Switch has gotten a ridiculous amount of games over that span. Plus it actually sells. I mean of course the Vita has a larger library overall. I should hope so considering it released back in December of 2011.

Bahamut122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

The Vita is a good portable device, but its that back and forth between portable and home use (and great exclusives) that makes people want to support The Switch. The fact that its hardware lies somewhere between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One (while still allowing portability) doesn't hurt either. I had a Vita for a while, I didn't hate it. Ended up taking the SD card and putting it into a PSTV instead (Keeping 99% of my games playable) and sold the Vita. It was just collecting dust, sadly.

WeebLord122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

The exclusives are weeaboo crap, the Vita is a fine little handheld but let's not pretend it didn't deserve the criticism.

Nothing on the Vita matches Odyssey or BoTW. Between the Nintendo output alone (ports or not) the Switch already out guns the Vita and the Vita has 5+ years on the Switch. Looking back, I'm not even sure why you brought up the Vita. Could you stop fellating a corporation, maybe for a day? See how it feels to not have a corporate member all up in your face?

Theknightofnights122d ago

@Prince-Ali

And the PS3 has more total games than the PS4. I don't understand your point.

SurgicalMenace122d ago

Actually the Vita has 3 or 4 times the titles of the Switch, you know since they are also amongst the ports to the Switch. Ys, Fate, Severed, etc. are games that are also on the Vita.

SurgicalMenace122d ago

It is because it is Nintendo why people want to support the Switch, because the Vita is still a more capable machine. Voice chat, party, cross play, cloud save, web browser, media, remote play, just name a few. With a few great exclusives to boot, now let's put the double standards to rest please. I have both and have more reasons to play my Vita atm.

EddieNX 123d ago

They're portable once they're on Switch and Hardly anyone got to enjoy some of the Wiiu stellar exclusives and now they can.

If you're one of the people who didn't own a Wiiu, then you're in for one hell of a ride with Switches definitive Wiiu ports and anything else that's ported to it I suppose.

Venox2008122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

Good words..I am a Wii U owner since launch (still play with it)..hopefully most good exclusives will be ported for Switch, including

Wonderful 101
Kirby power paintbrush
Smash bros
Shin megami x fire emblem
Paper mario
Yoshis wooly world
Pikmin 3
Nes remix 1 & 2
Super mario 3d world
Xenoblade chronicles X
Fatal frame

SurgicalMenace122d ago

Why repurchase if I have them available on other consoles? There are sooo many games that I already have on Wii U and Vita, and they both are portable options. I see the Switch as a less capable Wii U without the console, plan and simple.
