5 PS4 Firmware Update Features We Need in 2018

Push Square: "Sony didn’t update the PlayStation 4 much in 2017 – it didn’t really need to. We finally got external hard drive support, ticking off one of the system’s most oft-requested features since launch. And the manufacturer also completely overhauled the platform’s parental controls feature set. Beyond that, though, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to determine areas where the device can be strengthened – as evidenced by this article. Nevertheless, here are five firmware update features we want on the PS4 in 2018."

Being able to categorize Trophies on PS4 would be nice

dantesparda2300d ago

Here's my list of "Things needed on PS4/Pro"
01. System Wide Downsampling and forced (at least) 8x AF on Pro
02. Boost mode uses all of the Pro's power (meaning all 36 CUs instead of just half)
03. Auto Trophy Sync [Update: It sort of seems to have auto trophy sync, at least to the trophy tracking sites]
04. Trophy Tracker
05. The ability to delete games but keep their "update"/patch data or the ability to delete the update/patch
08. Stat tracker
07. Auto save file syncing between PS4s with the same account
08. PSN ID change
09. PS1/PS2 emulation
10. Ability to pin game tiles
11. Ability to upload all our pics and videos to PSN
12. Option to turn off Pro support when developers fuck things up
13. Store Wishlist with discount notifications
14. Game Gifting
15. PSN Country change
16. Ability to hide and/or delete tiles we dont want/need

And for goodness sake, fix the external HDD stuttering, already!

I agree with all of this. There is plenty they can still update on PS4, but it's always the same thing when it gets brought you for discussion. "It has games so features don't matter."

Regarding #5 - When you download a game from PSN, it automatically comes with the latest patch if you've deleted it from your console. I do agree, though, that the ability to delete a patch in the event that it causes more problems that it fixes should be an option.
Regarding #7 - That would be impossible to do that locally. You can have it auto upload save files to the cloud, and then download the save file from the cloud onto your secondary PS4. So technically, that feature already exists.
Regarding #12 - To my knowledge there hasn't been very many titles that have seen any detrimental side effects from its Pro support... there were a few games maybe in the beginning, but I have yet to see any current games reported to have major problems with its Pro support.
Regarding #13 - I think that already exists, as far as the wishlist is concerned.
Regarding #15 - I'm pretty sure you can already do that?
Regarding #16 - there is an option to reduce the amount of tiles that are visible in the system's menu.

As far as PS1/PS2 CD media emulation goes. The PS4 can not read CD's so you would have to download the file and I can't see that happening unless you pay for said file.

With regard to PS2 games on DVD the PS4 can read DVD's so an emulator may be possible to get a certified PS2 emulator (hint Sony! 😎) but somehow I don't think this will happen since Sony is selling for digital download selected PS2 games. If you are not in a hurry to digitally downloaded PS2 games I have seen some on PSN for well under half price during the course of the year.

I am a little unsure what you mean by "Ability to pin game tiles" would it not be easier to create and maintain a directory/folder with a list of games you are currently playing? You can do this now.

As for "Store Wishlist with discount notifications" that would be a nice feature of the PSN store, not the PS4 (PSN can advertise on the PS4 already if you care to look). I actually get discount info sent from PSN to my email already.

I do agree that game gifting is a good idea (I think Microsoft allows that for the XB1).

i don‘t care anymore. the ps3 system was ok-ish, showed promise and then they went for the worse with this pseudo facebook stream no one ever wrote something to. all the other social functions of the ps4 are strange and annoying, too. so basically, i‘m using the ps4 for gaming. and that was it. the occasional youtube and netflix thrown in. completely ignoring that there is a buddy list. i don‘t think i have interacted with the 100+ peeps in m buddylist since the ps4 got released. this whole operating system from sony is beyond meh. and so counterproductive.

All i want is supersampling via firmware

boing12300d ago

Or upgrade your tv to 4k and HDR? A lot more gain and 4k tvs are getting cheaper.

TheKingKratos2300d ago (Edited 2300d ago )

I would love too but in egypt 4k tvs cost 30000$
I enjoy all pro benefits i get on my tv though

@TheKingKratos

Oh, that sucks then. Sorry.

The only thing I really want is for them to fix our game library. Let me hide all the demos and betas I've downloaded so my list of purchases items is 1)My actual list of games that I own digitally and 2)Way less of a headache to navigate and search (maybe even put in a search bar). With over 300 titles on this list, it takes forever to load to find a specific game, even if I can hide a third of that would be so much better.

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos41m ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny
