Twinfinite Writes: 2017 has been a big year in the video game industry, and that's helped Sony keep the momentum for the PS4 surging forward.
“Just as importantly, Horizon’s success establishes Guerrilla as a priority developer with Sony. The implications of this mean that Sony could start having a staggered schedule with a Naughty Dog game releasing one year and a Guerrilla one releasing the next, with plenty of other developers to throw in between as well.” Sony has a lot of priority developers that leads to a healthy annual release schedule on various fronts.. Let’s not diminish their importance just because Uncharted & Horizon exist.
Exaxtly. Santa Monica is as much a priority studio as ND and Guerilla.
I would have said the main ones are NaughtyDog Guerrilla Games Sony Santa Monica Sucker Punch Media Molecule Sony Japan Could release two per year at that rate
Sony did an awesome job giving me games in 2017, and it looks like it'll continue on in 2018 and beyond. I usually end up buying of their major 1st party games from their various studios.
Guerrilla has been one of Sony's priority studios. Its just that a lot people know them for their shooting games. No one expected them to make an awesome open world game like Horizon.
Im glad they got out their comfort zone and tried something new and daring. Have yet to play it but its next on my list
And withe the forecast they have this year it's only gonna get better
Sony distributed their forces among their priority developers such as Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule and Insomniac. Sony where careful of not branding one super developer by letting other be relegated. Sony understood that having a great team of skillful developers pays more than having Bungie or 343 doing the same thing for ten years. I'm glad Sony is helping Hello games develop their dream too. Sony knows how to run a console effectively.
I LOVE Sony's first party studios. Nothing but brilliance, usually. I also enjoyed The Order 1886.
Sony has perfected how it manages console gaming since the PS1 days and has amassed and nurtured first party studios that are among the best game studios in the world. Naughty Dog, Guerilla, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica and Japan studios rank as the premier developers but the rest of Sony's studios are not far behind. With studios like these and collaborations with the likes of Kojima, From Software and Insomniac, and the support of other second and third party studios, it is no wonder that Sony is able to deliver so many games that are only available on the PS4 and certainly far more than its biggest rival. 2017 was a banner year for Sony and 2018 promises to be as good if not better. Between the PS4 and Nintendo's Switch, console gaming is very healthy going forward.
