The World Health Organization (WHO) thinks that video game disorder is a mental problem. Thus, this disorder will be part of the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) that will be published next year.
It's amazing to me, how much money there is in video games, and how evolved the industry has become, yet organizations like this still treat it like dirt.
Yeah its bc old media and the movie industries sht scared of how big gaming and the internet media has become and is well on its way to replace/overshadow them
I'd wager prolonged aerobic exercise that some partake in such as running or cycling can be much more dangerous than video games. After prolonged aerobic exercise your body releases endorphins that create a euphoria that can create a high, dull pain and even create a lost sense of time. In layman terms its called "Runner's High".
I knew someone that became so addicted to running, that it was the primary cause of his divorce, he spent way too much time running and not enough time with his family.
Playing video games 12 hours a day is bad, mmmkay? It needs to listed so we know how to treat this going forward. Check the website for suggestions like “going outside” or “getting a job”.
That's not what it says. The mental health condition would only be applicable if it had a clinically relevant impact on everyday functioning. As in, it prevented them from taking care of themselves, working a job, etc. Then it would be likely to be considered addiction.
It's not that there's a defined amount of 'too many video games' or anything like that. This articles headline is kind of clickbait.
Thanks for saving me the time. I figured as much. That's the nature of the beast. Most people don't know how to properly critically engage data, including people in the media, so you get people who lack the ability to properly analyze a study without conflating the findings with their own flawed interpretations of the data trying to summarize a complex process they likely failed to understand in a pithy headline.
I agree, throughout my 30+ years of gaming I have had some bad addictions. Turok nearly cost me my exams, golden eye caused insomnia and halo nearly cost me my manager position at game. Over the years I have learnt to control my habit but the X is bringing back some familiar feelings...
Of course do you read some of these playstation fanboy comments you can tell most of them guys never leave mom's basement and I'm sure they don't know what p__zy looks like but nevertheless they do entertain me in the comments though
Yes I read the comments of Salty, Bitter, Insecure and immature Xbox fanboys who cant do anything but to talk trash about PS4 and its fans but deep inside they know they cant do anything to stop PS4s Success in both sales and gameswise. You guys will always be Trying hard, 3rd rate deluded imbeciles who cant distinguish whats good and whats worse. I wont be surprised if even MS releases mediocre exclusives it will always look good to your eyes. whatever you say, Xbox will always be last place and will have the worst exclusives of them all. So I thought Xbone X will outsell PS4 last month in its launch? Cannot even win in the U.S. in its launch period, how much more worldwide?? Guess people are not stupid to fall for "The beast"!! "Most powerful console"!! Pathetic.
Because PS gamers dont need to upgrade to a midgen system because we still play the same awesome exclusives while guys like you needs to upgrade because its all you got, power!!. LOL. So your targeting the pro but why is it the vanilla PS4 still outsold both the Cheaper Xbone S and the stronger Xbone X?? Lol whatever with a Capital W on your forehead
Still remember that prick Jack Thompson and that shit storm he stirred with Manhunt. I love the original it deserved a better sequel but now we will never get one.
A kid got stabbed in a park in London, they found a copy of manhunt in the kid who got stabbeds house. The press got a whiff of the news and made it seem like the killer played manhunt.
Concerned parents probably bought papers because of their concern for their kids. It was all to sell papers. Thompson used it as a weapon to push his bs agenda.
Gaming should be limited to 3 hours max a day, any more is technically an addiction and bad for you. The proof is in some of these fanboys who straight up pledge their allegiance to a corporation, that’s not mentally stable behavior. I do think some of the video games make you kill everyone studies are BS, but addiction is bad and this classification is useful for treating it
When you're really concerned about people's health you might want to look into food. You know, enough to go around, making healthier food more affordable.IMO it's part of the 8th world wonder known as mankind.
Too much of anything can be bad thing. Even if that thing is a good thing. For instance I used to be a chronic masturbator. And sure everyone does it but when you're asking for bathroom breaks in class or stepping away from important family events. Or missing your daughters recital because it's all you can think about then it's time for a change. It's time to get help.
Maybe WHO could intervene in real world problems, like stating that greedy governments and corporations are bad for our mental health and must change, then most of us wouldn't have to escape to games that make us feel better about shitty real life.
Any excessive behaviour/habit is bad whether its alcohol, drugs, food or video games.
WHO better get their facts straight though before reaching any conclusions.
Cjeck this before publishing please

Oh boy here we go again don’t forget kids video games also make you kill people *rolls eyes*
