Star Citizen just passed another major milestone in crowdfunding, and a new video shows the ship of choice for pirates and criminals.
Winds of WInter by George RR Martin or Star Citizen. Which comes out first?
trick question. neither of those are ever releasing
Scalebound will release first...
Genuine question; What was the last game that cost 200mil to make?
GTAV from what I remember. EA is in the wrong when it comes to making money with loot boxes. Just put a big idea, crowdfund and update about insignificant progress every month.
"EA is in the wrong when it comes to making money with loot boxes. Just put a big idea, crowdfund and update about insignificant progress every month. " So true, thats where the money is.
According to Wikipedia, Star Wars: The Old Republic is the only one to ever cost $200 million. Even GTA5 (second place), only cost $137 million (without marketing).
Well the Old Republic is also an MMO and based on what they did with the Old Republic It's nowhere near what you see what Star Citizen. It's a fair comparison and very much shows that making an MMO of this stature takes time and money.
Wonder what happened to all that Destiny money
Why are people still giving them money? lol How much is enough?
"Why are people still giving them money?" Well that's kind of how MMO's work. They have a subscription plan and/or microtransactions although I wouldn't call Star Citizens "micro".
Most of the people still supporting the game *want* it to be a crazy ambitious, massive project. That's why the game got so much support in the first place. Most of those people don't really care if it takes another 5 years to fully release or if funding crosses $200 million as long as the end product is good.
Agreed. Games like this don't just take short number of years. Not with this type of funding and a genre this complex to build. When Bioware announced Star Wars The Old Republic, it was already in development for several years and confirmed by the team to be the longest project they've ever worked on. MMO RPGs in space don't just get cranked out for cheap and in 2 years or something. I'm shocked at any user that even thinks such a thing.
Another day another Star Citizen ship video with people talking who looked like they're almost bored to death.
Ya think 170m went into the game? I’m sure a large percentage is going into the pockets
I wonder what the figure will be when the game finally releases?
I was backer of the original Star Citizen project and invested over 100 dollars into the game. Tens of months passed and they kept aiming higher and higher, updating their goal. I found out, Im no longer interested in the game, because they kept changing the scale of the game with no end. I refunded all the investments i put into the game which was nice of them to let me.
Why is this game still being funded.
Sorry Star Citizen i prefer to give my money to Elite: Dangerous. I'll even buy some paint jobs for my Python to support the devs a bit more. Why? Because they gave me something to play. That's why we call them video games and not video videos. I can watch syfy videos on youtube for free...
This title suffers from big time feature creep the Star Citizen team needs to lock it down and work on a release date. Otherwise it will never be complete but if its fans & supporters are on-board for the ride i guess more power to them but to me it seems like a money pit that will not jell into an actual finished game.
