How the Switch has Ruled 2017

The Nintendo Switch swooped into 2017 with mystery shrouding it, but in less than 365 days has completely changed the state of the games industry.

Between Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, it's been a great year for Nintendo.

I'm not surprised, they had great games on DS, wii u, and wii. They just needed the right hardware.

It's a great looking console/handheld combination but for me it's lacking in the game dept for my interest,Mario looks great & that's all that interest me besides XBC2.When I start to see a flow of exclusives on the Switch that captures my interest then I'll buy.

Great handheld i give it that. It took failing in the console market for nintendo to realize their nitch is in the handheld market.

Exactly how I see it.

I think them going only in the portable market is a better fit. They have all their teams working on 1 device and gamers decide if they want to play their portable on the TV or not like PSP or Nvidia Shield.

Looks like PS and XB got them out of the home console market for good. I think they will do fine portable only.

It has been a great console. Such a great line up games and the support from indie games has really made me love the Switch. Nintendo has messed up a lot, but they are doing a lot of good with this system.

Nintys 1st party line up has been stellar this year with two games that are like best ever. In the world type of stuff ......... My only concern is what is coming next year as two or three of their huge franchises have been out this year with no sign of others

Not particularly. People are going to it for portable ports of games that were previously only on consoles or PC, as much as they are for the Nintendo games.

Tried that, couldn't get past the headline. Agreed about the portable aspect, and yes its doing ok. But its the hyperbolid bullcrap I can't stand. Yeah its had a great year even but saying it 'ruled 2017' and how nintendo 'became king' once more is only true in nintendo fanboys eyes, not reality. Hence my original comment.

About as good of a start as Nintendo could have asked for, and two of the best games ever made in the launch year helps as well.

I think the Switch helps get the next gen going again though. It kind of brings to lite all the things Switch does well that are missing from PS4 & XB1, but at the same time makes me excited to see how Sony & Microsoft react to the Switch and eachother going forward.

Switch was a nice boost for the gaming industry to carry it through to the next gen when 2-4 years from now we get the next Xbox & PS5 and then they kind of take over for a couple years and the cycle repeats.

Being mid cycle allows Nintendo to have the newest tech for at least 3 years of every gen rather than 0 years, so it's a good business move.

Gives them time to re-think their dedicated handhelds as well and we will get a 3DS successor too, but Switch is filling that void for next 2-3 years.
