Skyrim on Switch - Our Full Review | AusGamers

"Skyrim, you may have heard about it. The Elder Scrolls part flying V - ala The Mighty Ducks. One of the all-time great open world RPGs in the same way those kids were good at ice hockey. The Nintendo Switch version of the 2011 classic is based on the recently released Skyrim Special Edition (2016) that featured all official content released for the game plus fancy new enhanced visuals for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. So, that means Skyrim for Switch includes the full game, all the DLC, and around about seven million hours of gameplay.

Give or take. "

It's utter horse shit that Skyrim Switch is reviewing a full 7 points better on Switch than on VR on metacritic

I'm so sick of 'yeah the graphics are bad compared to the console and PC versions, but it's Skyrim on the go!!!' compared to 'yeah the graphics are bad compared to the console and PC versions and the fact that it puts you IN Skyrim doesn't negate that, nor does the insane level of immersion'.

And those are the ones who bothered to even review the VR version (Switch 53 reviews, VR 19).

Skyrim VR is the best version of Skyrim.

No, a shovel would be handy though, because I just exposed a salt mine.

toadovsky19d ago

Haven't tried the VR version yet but we'll be reviewing that too....

generic-user-name19d ago

Don't mean this site in particular, just in general.

Kun_ADR19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Uhh....beacause one you can play comfortably anywhere you want like in infront of your TV or on your bed, while the other you have to strap an enormous device on your head infront of your TV while having a bucket nearby?

I know, I rather choose the version that require me to have a bucket nearby, so I can play the game while peeing and possibly vomiting at the same time.

generic-user-name19d ago

Why do you think I want to hear your opinion when you're so clearly ignorant on the subject?

Sirk7x19d ago

I think reviewers have a bit of a hard time covering VR games, considering how many get sick when they play lol.

wonderfulmonkeyman19d ago

To be fair, a lot of game journalists who do reviews of games don't play very well even without VR confusing their senses.XD

generic-user-name19d ago

Then they've no business judging VR at all. I mean, do people who get car sick review cars?

wonderfulmonkeyman19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

"insane level of immersion"....
How, again?
I mean, you're part of the same generation that ragged on the Wii for motion controls.
Now suddenly you're okay with them, and they're more immersive, because of a first person camera helmet?

Dude, I've played Skyrim in VR [thanks to a friend], and on PC prior to that, via a gaming laptop, with many mods on to enhance the experience and the visuals.

The difference in VR isn't as night and day as you're proclaiming.

Skyrim's ALWAYS had first person view. That's not new; a dark room and total focus on the TV leaves you just as immersed in Skyrim as first person view in a camera helmet does.
Without the extra weight on your neck, OR the risk of motion sickness.

The current form of VR is not the future.
It's a gimmick that makes decent use of motion controls to give some games a chance at being more than they could be with just a regular controller, but it isn't a God-send of gaming, and not all games are better just because of VR.
Skyrim included.

generic-user-name19d ago

Your first paragraph is so incredibly idiotic it hurts. Please don't act like you know my feeling on motion controls.

And no, you haven't played skyrim VR, you played some half baked mod that can only dream of being the real deal.

And you equate VR to first person? Holy crap your ignorance is out of control, educate yourself please.

Summons7519d ago

The insane level of immersion...stares at floating weapons in front of you when the other versions of the game have the arms holding the weapons.

generic-user-name19d ago

Wow, such a stupid remark to make. You control that arm by pressing a button right? So immersive. I control a sword with 1:1 swinging.

wonderfulmonkeyman19d ago

"And no, you haven't played skyrim VR, you played some half baked mod that can only dream of being the real deal."

That's where you're wrong. Just because you're so easily impressed by VR that it's this magical wonderland to you doesn't mean the rest of us are as easily duped.
And yeah, I do equate them, because that's LITERALLY what you're doing; playing in first person with a couple of motion hands after strapping a chunk of plastic to your skull.
Don't over-glorify it just because your favorite version didn't get the score you wanted it to get; that's just immature and sad.

generic-user-name19d ago

Skyrim VR is currently only on psvr, therefore you didn't play the real deal, you played a mod.

You're clearly a moron to equate first person to VR (I mean you realise there are 3rd person VR games right?).

So beat it kid.

wonderfulmonkeyman19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

"Skyrim VR is currently only on psvr, therefore you didn't play the real deal, you played a mod."
The friend who let me try it allowed me to do so on his PSVR.
And while it was interesting, it wasn't the ten-foot-long immersion teet you're so clearly desperate to suck off at every opportunity.
So no, Sony Pony, I didn't play a VR mod. The only time I played it on PC was back when I owned the game on a gaming laptop. The two cases were separate, you're just too dumb to show proper reading comprehension.
That's negative one for you.

"You're clearly a moron to equate first person to VR (I mean you realise there are 3rd person VR games right?)."
And you're clearly a moron to deny that most of the games in VR are either best-played or preferred to be played, by the majority who use them, in first person mode.
But clearly common sense doesn't matter to you.
Negative two for you.

"So beat it kid."
If by "it" you mean you, Mr Generic, I just did, metaphorically speaking. So accept your tongue-lashing with grace and dig back into the salt mine you crawled out of after realizing the VR version isn't the best version by popular consensus.
Three strikes, and we're done here.
Your sorry beaten butt isn't worth another bubble.:P

generic-user-name19d ago

"The friend who let me try it allowed me to do so on his PSVR."

My bad, misread your first message and thought you said you played it on a laptop. So you get a point for that for sure, the rest of the trash you've written though remains ignorant and uninformed.

Just because people 'may' prefer VR games in first person, does not mean that VR=First Person, the fact that there are VR games in 3rd person annihilates that stupid notion. So take the L there.

"the VR version isn't the best version by popular consensus. "

Only according to people who haven't tried it and people who simply hate on VR (those who get sick from it), and people like yourselves who happen to have 'friends who let me try it' which may or may not be horseshit.

Oh and I don't know where you're going with the Sony pony shit kid, when the PCVR versions of Skyrim VR release, then they'll be the best way to play Skyrim ever with PSVR in 2nd and every other way in last.
