The heroes of Valkyria Chronicles are coming back in Valkyria Chronicles 4 with some DLC that will also unlock Edy for the main game.
Cool but isn't Xbox 1 risky profits?
I'm willing to bet that mircosoft is going to help fund an xbox port of this game. Otherwise it makes no sense to have it on the console because sales will be minimal. I would say it's definitely low risk if this is the case for Sega/Sammy and Microsoft probably isn't losing much.
The architecture for the PS4 and xbone are both x86, so it's not much really to port from one to the other compared to previously with the PS3 and 360 (with the PS3 using the cell processor) or with the Switch using ARM. It's more a question is a JRPG going to really sell on the xbone and be worth the time.
I'm going to buy it for Switch, but if I didn't I'd be buying it for XB1.

Not at all, especially considering this new entry on a console is risky which is why the past sequels have been on portables and not actual consoles.
Sales wise Xbox is bad when it comes Japanese supported games
Maybe Sega wanted a version for 4K TV owners? Whar better console to do that than the X.
That is not going to factor into these games overall enjoyment.
Sales wise, the original game didn't do well on PS3 either despite being praised by critics. This is why production was switched to handhelds. Hopefully now though it will get the attention this game deserves.
Last gen but PS4 and Switch have higher sales than Xbox sorry to say, but I'm happy than Microsoft have to pay these companies ports like Trump said
"Last gen but PS4 and Switch have higher sales than Xbox..." I don't see what that has to do with games succeeding, especially with a lot of Japanese games failing on PS4 despite these higher sales the console has. Valkyria Chronicles is still a risk for Sega on any console, but I am glad they are taking it.
Any evidence to back up?
"I don't see what that has to do with games succeeding, especially with a lot of Japanese games failing on PS4 despite these higher sales the console has" Quickly give me a cost breakdown and example of a ps4 exclusive Japanese developed game where the developer went over their allowable budget, cost exceeded sales and as a result, the studio closing down/down sizing. STFU with the bullshit.
Evidence of what exactly? Gravity Rush, Last Gaurdian, Star Ocean and many other Japanese games failed on the PS4. Is that what you're asking? I'm not really entirely sure what point you're trying to make? That a console with higher sales automatically means the game will do great? Especially a game like VC that failed on the PS3. Sega is taking a risk regardless on what platform it's on. They are actually upping their chances of success by releasing it on as many platforms as possible
Actually those sell good on PS4 what are you smoking any weed? Over 1 m is garbage? Any tangible evidence with that claim.
Whatever makes this game more profitable, I'm all for! I want as many Valkyria chronicle games as possible!!! The first game is one of my favorite games of all time... So happy right now! 😁
I really don't want this to be about sales of other games since this isn't the topic. http://wegotthiscovered.com... A small sample, I'm sure you can google the rest and see for yourself that the others i mentioned didn't burn up the charts. Again, this has nothing to do with a console, the game itself wasn't a huge success which is why the sequels went to mobile and not consoles. So it's a risk for Sega to bring this to any new console regardless...for the 80,000th time....
Your not really disproving his point, these are niche titles and they don't move millions of copies nor are Sony expecting them too. Yet Sony still green lights these kinds of games. Its called fan service.
@Xabi "Your not really disproving his point," I really wish I knew his point. "these are niche titles and they don't move millions of copies nor are Sony expecting them too" Except we're not talking about Sony, we're talking about Japanese games, and a game from Sega called Valkyria Chronicles that did not do well when it was released years ago on PS3 despite the 'niche' label and the console being very popular in Japan. "Yet Sony still green lights these kinds of games. Its called fan service." Lol, Okay, let's play.... so if these are niche titles and they aren't suppose to move millions...then what's the problem with Sega releasing this game for Xbox? Why is sales all of a sudden called in to question when Xbox is concerned but then all is forgiven as 'niche' when Sony is involved?
Sigh my point is that Sony sells more Japanese games than Xbox. And xbox doesn't sell Japanese games at all
gravity rush 2 was rumoured to have only sold 145,000, and now, they are shutting down the online services, not even a year later. hardly selling million or more https://www.gravityrushcent...
@gangsta_red "Except we're not talking about Sony, we're talking about Japanese games" "Gravity Rush, Last Gaurdian, Star Ocean and many other Japanese games failed on the PS4." Uhmmm.... "so if these are niche titles and they aren't suppose to move millions...then what's the problem with Sega releasing this game for Xbox?" When did I say it was?
Well more reason for my to hurry up and finish it on Steam.
unlocking characters like welkin and Alicia should have been free after completing the base game ...I like my games releasing complete and if t weren’t for the fans on steam and PS3/PS4 they wouldn’t have made this.but anyways ...
How exactly does the lack of characters from *another game* that have no active part in *this game* make it incomplete again?
It doesn’t make it incomplete, but they are announcing dlc so early featuring characters from old games .anyways I am not going to bother arguing with you,I seem to remember you damage controlling for the their last game which ended up trash anyways
DLCs already planned? Well, I guess now I have to tone down my expectations. I'm still excited for this game but I hope they don't ruing the game by rushing it or by adding microtransaction or whatnot.
It's pretty much a given now to expect planned DLC. It shouldn't come as a surprise
It's not a surprise, it's just not very tactful to announce DLC the same time as you announce the game. Hopefully it's free DLC that they're worried they didn't have time to include into the base game, especially since it just appears to be fanservice characters. I really enjoyed Valkyria Chronicles (never played the portables or spinoffs) though, so I am looking forward to seeing more on this.
Why is there DLC planned before the game is released? That seems like a mighty disservice to the players.
Because they're bonuses for the collector's edition and first print, which are a standard in Japan, and have been for years.
I'm okay with DLC so long as it feels like an actual extra, and not something ripped from the game to be sold later.
Well done, Sega. Announcing DLC greed before the game is even out only ensures that I won't buy it Day 1 for full price...
Didn't this game literally just get announced. How they already talking DLC.
If the characters are inserted into the base game in a way where they are generally speaking - side characters, then I'm fine with it being added on as DLC. However if/when unlocked it seems that the original characters take a substantial role in the story, then it should've been free. That's just my two cents though. I'm excited for this title in 2018 (a year that's shaping up to be another hit).
Since this games seems to take place about the same time as the first game, I can't see how Edy's story or DLC would have any actual bearing on the story in the new game. Edy was in all the original game, and even had Edy's detachment side missions which showed what she was doing during this time. I think they chose her just because she's inexplicably popular given her place in the original game. As for other characters, it seems like this will be side mission stuff. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a direct sequel the original game though. These side mission sequels aren't as interesting, and the story of the first was much more moving than the follow ups, and I found the characters in the original to be much more interesting.
Here's hoping that the 4th borrows some of the magic the first one had and creates a memorable story of its own. (I have a feeling it will).
