Star Wars Battlefront II Review | Gamereactor

GR writes: "A lacklustre campaign won't be enough to detract from the appeal of Star Wars Battlefront II, nor should it, because despite its flaws there is still fun to be had and it slots nicely into canonical events. The multiplayer, on the other hand, was fantastic fun, and our experience wasn't tainted by the inclusion of the controversial loot system, although we must concede that it's impossible to predict how they will affect balance in the future. We can't imagine it being game-breaking, and that's why we're tentatively awarding the game a well-earned high score; we just wish that the microtransactions were limited to cosmetic items only, as the current system leaves a question mark hanging over the prognosis of an otherwise excellent sci-fi shooter."

Basing a score on a guess don't seem serious to me, why not wait and play the REAL version that we consumers are meant to pay for and put score on the "real deal". Gamereactor just lost another reader in me, this must be a joke.
I do what every other consumer should do. I don't buy this game before EA unlocks ALL content currently locked behind pay-to-win-walls and play Wolfenstein 2 or whatever you fancy meanwhile. And the "new" tuning with about 10+ hours to unlock each hero and with X number of heroes will take hundreds of hours just to unlock, but those should be unlocked but regular gameplay, not endless farming to push us into the MT trap.
My advice is, buy and play Wolfenstein 2 or something else and let EA and BF2 rot in the anti-consumer hell.
Can believe how many reviewers that chicken out and give this 8 and 9s when its filled with this shit tbh. Now many gaminsites show their true colors on MT's, thats for sure.

They didn't chicken out, their bosses were flat out paid for a good review. 8 out of 10 minimum and shut your mouth about pay to win if you want to keep your job.

The pay-to-win element was addressed in the review, but given how it has been implemented, it's really hard to quantify the impact it has on the experience from player to player. My experience was that it was a bit convoluted and obviously it would have been better without it, but I still had fun.

The truth is we talked long and hard over this particular score (more so than usual), and it was the subject of much debate among the team. If it weren't for the lacklustre campaign structure and the loot system, the score would have been higher. I can totally appreciate that others out there might have found the setup more intrusive to their experience, and I'm not surprised by the mixed feedback the game has been getting.
Still, I enjoyed playing it, and so that's what I wrote.

Sorry to hear you didn't like the review. It scored an 8/10 because we had a lot of fun with the multiplayer, and after several hours of playing, we hadn't noticed any significant impact to our own experience based on the loot system. It's convoluted and the game would have been better without it, sure, but we still enjoyed playing. The story campaign, and the question mark over the loot system, held it back in our opinion, and that's reflected in the review.

With any multiplayer game the experience is subjective, and it's impossible to predict how the meta will advance over time. Will, for example, those who invest in microtransactions have better star cards than those who don't? Yes, quite possibly, but non-paying players will also have enough credits to equip their builds as they see fit and will likely be just as competitive, so it's hard to judge whether it's going to be game breaking or not. We won't see the full effects of the loot system for weeks, maybe months.

Also, for what it's worth, my advice is also play Wolfenstein II, because that game's a beast.

Oh... So the 8 is because they lack the imagination.

I imagine I'll never click on a game reactor review ever again.

It's a pay to win model folks. Others will get an advantage of faster progression if they pay.

Gamereactor is kissing arse or is anti gamer.

LOL! What a load of complete utter bullshit

Someone just got a nice bonus.
Which is good, because they'll need it to put towards unlocking those loot boxes.
