The publisher behind Assassin's Creed and Ghost Recon expects the generation to last another few years because of new hardware.
Refreshers? More like unneeded hardware not everyone is going to invest in...I think most of us would just prefer to stick it out for a few more years and save for next gen. Hopefully this will be the first and last time they do this.
Yeah, I just would feel dumb if I got fooled into thinking I needed to spend another 400-500 to play the same games. I really hate the reference to cell phones too. These are not cell phones. And with a PS5 coming in 2 years, It just seems like I will get more bang for my buck in waiting.
@Eonjay Is that so? A "next generation" PS5 in two years will be like what? 2x or 2.5x more powerful than the Pro? Do not expect a significant power boost for the PS5 over the PS4 Pro, if you don´t want to spend more than 400 bucks!
I don't understand why you guys keep dating 2 years for PS5. It's not happening. The fans just made up this number and nowhere had anyone been quoted as saying 2019
@-Foxtrot lmao! You can´t have a clean break from current generation of consoles, if you want back/foward compatibility! Choose your Destiny!
There's no real reason to deviate from this model going forward as it's a win for pretty much everyone involved. Pretty much every iteration of the PlayStation and Xbox consoles is going to be the same x86 architecture. They can keep improving the APIs, adding transistors, cores and power efficiency for decades without changing the core of the systems.
I agree. I'd prefer a new machine very 5-6 years. Yes, I bought both the Pro and X, but that's because I wanted to have the best versions of current gen systems. Next gen, I'd prefer it remain with we get at launch.
For once I actually agree with you.
I wouldnt mind an iteration of consoles every 3 years while keeping my game library running ... i spend more on games than on the console and its nice to know my games library will still be playable
The Ps3 gen had no console refresh, look how long it lasted. BS
The PS3 architecture is dead though and very little supports it now. The base Xbox One and PS4 will continue to be the baseline target platform for way longer than 360 and PS3 were supported.
Well, yeah, the PS3 is also 11-years-old. If you really think the base PS4 and X1 will be supported longer than that, you're in for a rude awakening. The Pro and X will get the shifted support after the next gen machines launch.
Correct, and we are probably at least 5 years from "Next Gen" machines. Both companies just released systems. You are talking at least 5 years from release before each one reaches maximum profitability.
A certain player base is wishing a new gen starts as soon as possible.
Won't happen. These companies need time to profit on their new beasts
What base is that? The switch just came out.. so not them.. PS4 is getting tons of games and more coming.. so not them.. Xbox One got a huge upgrade.. so not them.. Im confused.
Sounds like next gen won't be here until 2020-2021
So about 7 years.. same as last gen
Looks like this is a hint... we are in for a wait. .....2022!
This generation will be in its prime until 2020
It's already in it's prime at least for PS4. I think the PS4 hit its prime last year 2016 Uncharted 4 Rachet and Clank Street Fighter 5 The Last Guardian MLB The Show 16 This year Gravity Rush 2 Yakuza 0 Horizon Zero Dawn Persona 5 Nioh Nier Automata Uncharted The Lost Legacy Crash GT Sport MLB The Show 17 C'mon man look at next year and 2019 Yakuza 6 Left Alive Ni No Kuni 2 God of War Detroit Become Human Dissidia Final Fantasy Mlb The Show 18 Spiderman Days Gone Shadow of The Colosus The Last of us Part 2 Ghost of Tsushima Death Stranding Dreams Shenmue 3 With more to be announced for 2018 and beyond... I'd say we are very much in this gens prime unless I misunderstood you.
I know that, it’s why I said “be in its prime until” as in after 2020 it may be superseded by the 9th gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles
My bad man. I misread your post. Totally agree with you on that.
Yeah it’s weird I got so many disagrees like people think PS4’s prime will end that much quicker
Whether the upgrades is good for business or not remains to be seen. We haven't seen the effects that these upgrades may have on next generation hardware.
2018 will be a fabulous year for PS4 Pro fans & owners.
I would have said as much if the Pro and One X came out later than they did, but I think they released too early to say they're extending the generation, especially in PS4's scenario. PS5 is likely still on schedule.
Of course it is/will, they are doing an apple and milking it for every last drop with these ridiculously overpriced incremental “upgrades”.
And water is wet.
I doubt it. I think we might possibly start seeing weirder generations from now on. I wouldnt be surprised if Pro was compatible with the next generation PS console games, with the standard PS4 seeing a longer life with indie releases due to a unification with all the upcoming PS consoles. The "PS5" also getting a half generation upgrade that is upwards compatible. All this assuming they keep using the same OS with more updates (instead of developing an all new one), and use similar hardware configuration/architecture from now on. This would naturally also mean backwards compatibility. With investment into streaming, and with the addition of PS4 games in Now, I can also see the standard PS4 living little longer into upcoming generations while still generating money by introducing upcoming generations games there. That would honestly be pretty cool.
you lost me at "ubisoft"
