Assassin’s Creed beats Mario to claim No.1 (UK Sales Charts Ending October 28)

Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed Origins has prevailed in the battle with Super Mario Odyssey to claim No.1 in this week’s UK charts. Origins’ week one sales are about level with 2015’s AC Syndicate, although revenues are higher thanks to the addition of some higher-price SKUs.

Yeah. When Ubi said they'd have a new one every year, I knew the franchise was going to go through some drops as rushing things is never good, and franchise fatigue sets in among the consumer.

I like what I've seen with the new one, even though I've never been a big fan of the series.

Mario will have 10 million+ eventually. its the same case Horizon beating Zelda at launch but Zelda is ahead of Horizon as of now. Nintendo titles mostly have crazy legs :)

"only game worth buying on the Switch at the time"? That may have been true at launch, but it's been 7 months. Since then, Switch has got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Splatoon 2, ARMS and Fire Emblem Warriors, along with a few exclusive indie gems like FAST RMX and Golf Story, and a lot of other indies which just feel at home on a console that can be taken on the go or played on the TV as you please.

That said, yes, a big part of Zelda's sales were due to it being the only major release on the Switch at launch, and pretty much the reason why everyone got a Switch, so yup, that accounted for its great sales a lot. And yes, Horizon's sales are superb for a new IP, so I agree with you that comparing its sales performance with a storied franchise like Zelda is a bit silly.

If you compare lifetime sales Odyssey's sales to AC's on a single platform, yes, Mario has a chance to outsell it. But AC's combined sales across PS4, Xbox One and PC is another thing entirely, and much harder to beat.

Forza Horizon 3 still kicking asses after one year and two months, it´s outselling 2017´s high profile titles like, Destiny 2, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Zelda BoW, Mario + Rabbids and South Park! O.o

Sometimes it happens, but context is important here.

A lot of Nintendo Wii's games actually became the best-selling games of that generation, dwarfing the sales of multiplatform games that came out for PS3 and Xbox 360 and PC. Even Call of Duty (which was a MONSTER during that era).

But the Wii also sold more than 100 million consoles.

The Switch, on the other hand? It's selling well, but it's been out for only 7 months, and has sold about 7 million consoles, give or take, against the more than 90 million combined PS4 and Xbox One consoles out there, not to mention PCs.

And the UK just doesn't like Nintendo as much as all the other regions in the world.

So, to expect Odyssey to sell better than AC in the UK is a bit silly. The fact that Mario managed to grab #2 place in a region that doesn't care much about Nintendo, for a console that's only 7 months old and has a tiny install base, and have it actually outsell FIFA (which is BIG on the UK) is impressive.

Not surprising AC is multi platform and one of the most gorgeous games of 2017, Mario is Switch exclusive and although also a beautiful game more for its art style rather than its graphical power.
