We Almost Got a Resident Evil TV Show, and Here's the Proof of Concept

Shawn Lebert recently posted the short video Dave, which is based on his pitch for the show Arklay that would have taken place in Resident Evil.

Must say, it looked promising. Perhaps not directly as an RE show, though possibly. That short teaser isn't really enough to tell where they wanted to take it fully.

Surprised it wasn't picked up though really. Those few minutes there, were better then the collective entirety of Paul Anderson's intellectual drivel of a movie series.

This looks promising! It actually looks as good as the first teaser for season one of Mortal Kombat Legacy. I hope we see the first trailer soon.

No more Paul Anderson movies, although in the first one we got to see Milla in nothing but an extended dental bib.

This sounds interesting. It sounds like the lead up to the beginning on the original Resident Evil game. Bizarre murders taking place in the Arklay mountains is what led the STARS team to head up there and investigate.

This definitely sounds better than most of those terrible "prequel" shows like Gotham or Smallville. Those shows take way too many liberties and just screw u the story. I get the argument of those shows taking place in alternate timelines, or that they are alternate stories. But still. How is that cool? I want to see the actual story of how we got to where we are in the main stories. Not some BS origin that doesn't lead to anything we'll ever see.

Thats where this show would succeed or fail for me. If it was going to be faithful enough to lead into the video game's story, i would be fine with it. Maybe even make Season 2 be the story from RE 1. Season 3 as RE 2, etc.

Why not just do the games story if that’s the case. You can’t have a cure that early anyway.

The premise says he looks for a cure. It never says he gets one.

I have to agree with aarogree. It doesn't say they FOUND a cure. Only that they are looking for one. And honestly, why wouldn't they? Also, if it was set to follow the video games story then we know there is no cure.

Again, for me it just depends on how well it sticks to the game's lore. This is a good starting point for the "bizarre" murders and people being attacked by groups of "people" and being torn apart and eaten which leads the STARS team to go investigate. It makes sense that it would start small like this and just the normal police would be investigating.

But again, these types of prequel shows (Gotham/Smallville) tend to take too many liberties that remove it completely from the main source material. This would be a huge mistake in this case.

And they said Batman wouldn’t appear on Gotham it would focus on Jim Gordon, and one or two villains...it didn’t. It’s completely different then what it was supposed to be...in a bad way

Point is they lie to get it into production...no way you’d make a show with a main character then kill him off as he turns. Would only work as an anthology series which this wouldn’t be going for

They’d magically find a cute for him going against source material or cure him another way just to keep him going

STARS investigates after a few were investigated but this show would just drag it out. You’d end up having so many cases that it wouldn’t make sense...they would know STARS investigating leading to RE1 is the ending of the series

They’d change too much. It’s happened too many times on TV adaptations

I can see that, for sure. I would want this to be Season 1, then end with the STARS getting assigned to investigate. Then Season 2 and 3 would be faithful adaptatiins of RE 1 and 2. But that would never happen.

We don't need a Resident Evil TV Show we got Walking Dead

That's like saying we didn't need A Nightmare on Elm Street because we already got Friday the 13th.

Not every movie, show, or video game in the same genre is the same. In The Walking Dead, the cause of the zombies is mostly left a mystery, but in Resident Evil the cause is a known quantity and something criminals can obtain for bioterrorism.

There's enough difference between the two for them to both stand on their own, side by side.
