IGN: "ELEX has enough good ideas to be a great RPG in a year or two, but bugs and bad balance make it hard to recommend now."
That's too bad, The story and setting seem really interesting. Hopefully they patch the game up over the months and I'll give it a shot.
If you knew the developer of this game, then you would already know what to expect. This is a 30 person team responsible for such games like Risen and Gothic series. So basically, if you liked those games despite their flaws, then you'll like this game.
It's doesn't excuse them for releasing games in this state. If they ever want to be considered top tier then they have to work on the quality of their presentation.
From what I understand it's not a good studio to work for.
@segata that's interesting, I've never heard that but it would explain the state of their releases. Poor moral = poor products.
You haven't play this game, correct?
First off, Gothic was released 20 years ago and the third installment was almost unplayable at launch. Second, Risen is a very bad series. It started OK with Risen 1, but the last two entries were atrocious. Elex looks like to be no different. It has leaps and bounds of technical issues and a poor combat system. Only good thing seems to be the world and story, but everything else is boring, repetetive and broken af.
Maybe we're not playing the same game... I'm enjoying it, but then maybe my standards are far less hoity toity.
You haven’t played it.

That review doesn't make this one irrelevant. Ign has had some weird scores over the years but his points seem valid.
*liked Unity a lot*
From the previews I knew it was going to get a bad score. Just look how wonky the enemies and friendly A.i move. Look to have. A great story and voice acting, but poor execution!
Some aspects of this game remind me of Two Worlds. ugh...
It's kind of nuts that they had a pretty solid game but it fails because of severe balancing issues that could have been easily fixed. Was their QA team high AF or something?
Damn that's harsh. Currently enjoying the game, and while combat is the usual Piranha Bytes fare, it's a cool experience.
The gameplay trailers that were released at E3, Gamescom etc.. portrayed an interesting and varied open world, there were some nice touches, but the actual character design and the almost slow motion and sluggish combat raised alarms way back then. Its tragic that a game that could have been a contender, that has been worked on for three years or more, is released in such a bad state, that basically is pretty unplayable. You also have to question its release now, amongst all the pre Xmas rush of quality titles.. Assassin's Creed Origins Wolfenstein, COD, Battlefront 2.. the list goes on. Surely the head honchos at Piranha had seen the initial feedback from the early gameplay previews, not remedying it has damned the game and sadly might be the end for the studio. What a waste of three years efforts.
4.9? Are you for real IGN? Too much whater eh?
Gotta love how at the end he suggests other RPGs that are nothing in any way like ELEX lol. Should have told people to check out the Gothic series or even Risen.
The critics hate this game but people on steam and gog seem to like it. I like it a lot so far and I’ve never played gothic or risen.
