Is Gran Turismo Sport a Proper Gran Turismo?

Twinfinite: "Gran Turismo Sport is beloved by many due to various factors such as having hundreds of cars to collect, offline championship races, authentic racing simulator experience, cutting-edge graphics, and competitive multiplayer races. However, Gran Turismo Sport trudges to a multiplayer-centric direction, scaling back on content and changing some aspects. This has sparked concerns whether it’s still a worthwhile purchase and retains the heart of the series. "

Why wouldn't it be a proper GT? It is still a racing simulator at its core. At least it is trying to do something new and ambitious. I give them props for that alone. They can work on GT7 after this and bring the offline career mode. Every GT has had its prologue chapter so this could be a different kind of prologue for all we know... Either way this direction is paying off so far and I want to try it out myself

"Gran Turismo 7 is not currently planned. All our studios are focused on Gran Turismo Sport and, once it is out, the DLC that follows afterwards" stated by the creator.

Patricko58d ago

Of course they are saying something like that. Can you imagine what would happen if they said that they are already working on GT7? Sales of GTS would be much lower, especially with no proper single player campaign. It's standard pr and marketing these days and they are not exceptional here.

As a long time GT fan, I am rather disappointed with the end result when you see how much time was put in. I will still get the game though as I do enjoy GT but PD has a long tradition of releasing two GT games per console generation since the PS1. Not only have they broken that tradition by calling this GT:Sport but it looks like it is broken even further by this being the ONLY GT game released for the PS4 generation.

What actually are they trying to do thats so new? Ive been racing online with racing games since Geoff Crammonds Grandprix 4 (2000).
All I see looking at the content is less tracks, no sp campaign of any sort. Basically a half finished game being sold at a full retail game price.

Sooo you are going to ignore the FIA License huh?

It's a new Gran Turismo, now if it's a proper GT, that is up to gamers.

Some will like the new GT some wont, at it's core is still GT.

You mean, Gran Turismo?

Anyway, judge the game for what it is and not for what it could be. Polyphony made it very clear that this game represents a new direction for the series and that it would be an online multiplayer focused game in partnership with FIA.

NapalmSanctuary59d ago

The idea that any new Gran Turismo could ever be judged in a vacuum is just naive. What Polyphony says means nothing. The name 'Gran Turismo' speaks for itself, and to try to make it say something so different this late in the game, after 2 sub standard entries (5&6) is more than a little insulting to many of the fans, like myself, who stuck by them, waiting for a proper successor to GT4.

This game currently has a 78 on Metacritic

That's a step down critically from previous Gran Turismo games

FallenAngel198459d ago

And it may lower when more reviews do come in.

I just checked on it right now and the score is currently 76 as of this moment.

LegoIsAwesome59d ago

So? Zelda has 97 metacritic but its a shitty game. Your point?

FallenAngel198459d ago

Wtf point are you trying to make?

Gran Turismo games usually score in the 80s & 90s. Something as acclaimed as GT should be scoring higher than anything in the 70s.

LegoIsAwesome58d ago

Dunno. Ask them. Maybr its not mainline GT? Idk. Go back to your preference and thats forza aint that right? Go write some "15 reasons to by forza than gt" or whatever lol

FallenAngel198458d ago

Even if it's not a numbered entry doesn't mean it shouldn't be as great as the previous entries critically. Even Gran Turismo 5 Prologue managed to get a 80 Metascore.

Bringing up Forza does nothing but deflect what's going on here.

Wow i hope the good reviews come in amd gt sport is 97 or higher. Not fair its getting bad reviews for bein stripped down and require online. Its still GT. GT7 will be better then forza 7 though

-Foxtrot59d ago

I don’t think it is...seems like it’s been stripped down

Wouldn’t mind subtitle if they were going something totally different like an arcade racing game or kart racing but it’s not

The_KELRaTH59d ago

I dunno, I'm not sure I could cope with reading subtitles while trying to keep 4 wheels on the road lol

I think lots will enjoy it initially, pretty content, screenshot locations etc etc but longevity of the game could be very short. Games generally have a start and end goal; I wonder how popular Uncharted series would have been if rather than a story it was just a case of choosing a scene and then climbing up and down things - the repeat and repeat.

The challenge of beating the AI cars all the time will quickly become monotonous without a goal. I can't actually think of another racing game that didn't have a direction of winning a championship.

This seems odd, you usually go all out against these online only titles. This game won't even allow you to save offline.

I on the other hand see this as yet another bullet point for Sony to push Playstayion Plus memberships. I told you guys before that the AAA market will change and will go more towards always online, microtransactions and DLC. It's inevitable with budgets rising while game prices remained stagnant.
