The Evil Within 2 shines on PS4 - but Xbox One and PC fall short

EuroGamer: "Looking at all three versions, the results are clearly highly variable. The PlayStation 4 version currently lacks Pro support (which shouldn't really be happening by now) but offers very stable performance and solid visuals. We'll have to wait for the Pro and Xbox One X upgrades which should impress, but in the here and now, the base PS4 version is easily the best console version available, it's just a shame that the Xbox One version is a touch rough by comparison - performance is worse and resolution takes a hit into the bargain."

Wow, PC owners really got the shaft.

2600Thunder55d ago

Yup, there's that $96bil at work to bring us nothing but the highest quality and refinement. Why do we pay out 3x as much to big publishers again? Oh yeah they need new yachts and vacation homes. No need to make better games or game engines when we shower them with cash eh?

dirkdady54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Any expectation that games will be developed with Xbox x and pro out of the gate should be gone. It's a net new additional development studios are not willing to commit to.

Evilryusam55d ago

Not really, since we can get full refund on steam

2pacalypsenow55d ago

That doesn't fix the fact that PC almost always gets the shit ports.

chrisoadamson54d ago

Full refund also available through xbox store should you wish. I'm sure the xbox one x version will ok though if the ps4 shines lol

Aloren54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

@2pacalypsenow Hmmm, yeah, when there's a shitty port, every once in a while, it's almost always the pc version , which usually needs a few weeks to be fixed. But there's also the fact that for the vast majority of games, PC almost always get the best version.

TardcoreGamer55d ago

Yeah. You're right. A locked [email protected] is unacceptable.

Neonridr55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

but this game isn't. If you read the story they were having trouble getting 60fps @ 720p with a Titan XP. That sounds very unoptimized.

"a locked 720p60 performance level is impossible on a Core i7 5820K overclocked to 4.4GHz and paired with Nvidia's Titan Xp" - that sounds pretty crappy to me.

great that if you are willing to accept 30fps you can at least achieve 4K results.

Corpser54d ago

^ but the game is not running at 60fps on any platform

warriorcase54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

@Neonridr yea but they are wrong. Something else is up, my guess would be graphics drivers perhaps? Have a gtx1080 and easily get over 60fps max setting at 1440p and have not noticed any stuttering at all with the game also on an ssd. Its not a very demanding game.

Corpser54d ago

30fps on PS4: solid performance,shines
<60fps on PC: bad port, a disaster

Neonridr54d ago

I am just hoping that a Pro patch comes out next month with the release of the One X. Could be a publishing arrangement to hold off on the patch until the new Xbox comes along.

YAO-BLING54d ago

yup, get a ps4 pro console!

Obscure_Observer55d ago

Good. I think now we can put that BS about Bethesda favoring Xbox to rest! ;)

LP-Eleven55d ago

Well, during the last gen, it was obvious that's what they favored. Times have surely changed thanks to the PS4's ease of development and Sony's market position, but to act like it was never truthful means you either weren't paying attention or refused to accept it.

Ashunderfire8655d ago

Well for one last gen PS3 had the Cell Processor that made games difficult to develop, so of course they favored 360 at the time.

zuul901855d ago

@ ashthunder one could make the same argument, well of course they favor sony now due to ps4s ease of develpment/marketing position.

Ps3 doesnt need you to defend it against everything that seems slighty negative, it did fine

Smokingunz55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Mabye they did favore Xbox 360 back then over the competition, I mean it was the best system back then.

Phill-Spencer55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Wrong. It was the easiest system to develop but not the best. Not only my opinion but also a undeniable fact, sorry.

Condemnedman55d ago

sorry weirdos not fact at all just your opinion what facts do you have ?

ZeroX987655d ago (Edited 55d ago )

they always said that because of how the system rams was shared for the X360 VS the PS3 was what made all those problems.

If I remember correctly, the PS3 dedicated 256mb to the GPU while retaining 256mb for the system
VS
Xbox 360 who had 512mb of total ram (like the PS3), but the allocation of the rams was up to the devs, so you could allocate how much ram that goes to the GPU/system.

So I would go with LP-Eleven explanation, ease of development is the main reason why as for the playstation platform. Both hardware were very good, but with some specifics which could bring advantages to certain areas and bottlenecks to others.

LP-Eleven54d ago

Best is subjective. Technically, it was not. The PS3 was the stronger system.

UltraNova54d ago

Show me anything close to the ps3 tLoU on the 360 then...

RememberThe35755d ago

Yeah they've only ever just been lazy. They pick a main platform then stick some interns on the ports.

-Foxtrot55d ago

Well it's not made by Bethesda unlike Fallout and Elder Scrolls

Sciurus_vulgaris55d ago

Bethesda is so notorious for optimization issues, this gen, Evil Within 1 & 2, Fallout 4, Dishonored 2, Prey and the Skyrim Remastered all had performance issues.

Liqu1d55d ago

Bethesda didn't develop this. Look at the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4 on PS4.

Obscure_Observer55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

@Liqu1d

Bethesda´s still their bosses, if favor Xbox is their goal/policy, you can bet your life that this game would run better on Xbox despite the fact that it was developed by another studio. Don´t be naive.

moegooner8855d ago

I assumed by Steam reviews that the game was well optimized for PC, given how many are praising how well it is running :/.

DarkOcelet55d ago

It ran extremely well with my 980TI/6700k on Ultra and encountered very little issues with a minor glitch here and there.

Cyro55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Yeah same. Obviously not a large sample size but I've played it and already watched two playthroughs on PC and didn't notice much. Hopefully a patch comes through soon because the game is great and it would suck for some to skip it.

constantine_man55d ago

I posted a thread that got very popular about how poor the performance was and was bombarded with people saying that I was whining and lying and that they had great performance. Turns out that "great performance" is subjective and that to a lot of them a locked 30fps was "great performance"...

warriorcase54d ago

Yeah this article is nonsense. We are playing at the moment with a 1080 and getting an easy 60fps with no stuttering at 1440p.

I had to turn off motion and camera blur They need to give the PC version an update

Servbot4155d ago

Motion and camera blur are awful additions anyway. Your eyes do it for you, no need to smear Vaseline on top of that.

pimuxoc54d ago

I'm making $86 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbor told me she was averaging $95 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm my own boss.

Reason why the wait for Xbox one X to release before buying this game

AcidDvl55d ago

Yes, let's spend an additional $500 because our $400 Xbox doesn't run the game properly.

Combine both with the game and you've spend ~$1000.

343_Guilty_Spark55d ago

The Xbox One can be had for $200

mkis00755d ago (Edited 55d ago )

When die hard fans bought them at launch they weren't 200

Condemnedman55d ago

why not If you want the best console version and better than alot of pc's then yes of course there will be pc's that will do better but not for the same money.

InTheZoneAC55d ago

Xbox logic makes no sense. Why buy mid-gen upgrades when you're better off buying a PC?

Xbox has inferior support and games, yet when they've spent $1000 after taxes they could easily have a better pc instead.

S2Killinit55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

NOT SPEnding another $550+ on an xbox when they didnt properly support the last one. I’ll use the money to get the most out of the consoles i have and wait for Next gen consoles.

NoPeace_Walker55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

"NOT SPEnding another $550+ on an xbox when they didnt properly support the last one."

XB1X is not a new gen. It is just an upgraded XB1 made for 4K TV and the console gamers looking for the best versions of console games in which Xbox One and PS4 shared 95% of such games. MS just released FM7 and Cuphead on their Xbox consoles and games like Assassin's creed origin, Battlefront 2, Kingdom Heart 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2 are still coming and will definitely play best on the XB1X for console gamers. So what is the issue here with what JohnS is saying?

JonnS55d ago

I don't see a problem in doing as such .

JonnS55d ago

Ha , disagrees for waiting .

If i didn't know better you would think some here , want u to drop your preferred system when it has a set back of sorts. So you go run to buy their preferred system of choice . Wild assumption on their part .

Kaze8854d ago

Even the PS4 Pro has no additions at all, all you can do is use boost mode. they only optimized it with ps4 properly. They got some patching to do for real.

OffRoadKing54d ago

If power was the deciding factor in a game running well then why doesn't the game run better on PC then it does on PS4? I truly feel sorry for people like you who believe that just because a game is on xbone x its automatically going to be better, you drank the Microsoft kool-aid.
