We take a closer look at the recent spat between the battle royale developers.
At fault of what exactly. PUBG was by no means the first game to have a battle royale mode. It would be like shadow of Mordor devs complaining that mad Max devs copied their combat system (which was copied from Batman games)
Which was copied from Jet Li's Rise to Honor
Perjoss just discovered that WB games makes similar games to one another. Congratulations detective, you've got em red handed!
I think PUBG is scared of what Fortnite's Battle Royale mode signifies... that any other game dev or company can capitalize on the popularity of the battle royale game mode and potentially siphon players away from PUBG. Granted, PUBG wasn't the first to utilize this game mode, so Epic Games (and other companies) have every right to create their own interpretations. I'm curious to see how many battle royale type games are announced/released moving into 2018.
PUBG is insecure in the quality of their game and rightfully so. I mean let's be honest, PUBG is exciting because of the general mechanics and scale of it. But neither of those things will be unique for long, and when people bring out similar games with more refined gameplay and graphics (two areas where PUBG struggles..the driving and actual gunplay are awful), it's in serious trouble. I don't think anyone is playing PUBG in 2 years.
Yeah, PUBG is in a very precarious position right now. If a company with lots of cash and manpower decides to release a similar game with better features, PUBG won't be able to compete. At least not in its current state.
Maybe you're arguing against a position BlueHole doesn't even have? Their statements haven't said anything about owning the game mode / type. If you would pull your head out from under your bias and read the statements you might understand. Continue though in the meantime raging on something they never said. That's cool. You must work for CNN.
Statement from Bluehole via PC Gamer: "There are a lot of different issues but everyone else that released a battle royale game mode made their own thing, but it was Epic Games that made this game that is similar to us that has similar elements, and that's the concern, that it was Epic Games." Yes, it's not about the game mode itself, but rather WHO made the battle royale mode and how it feels closer to PUBG than other battle royale releases (there's also the issue of Bluehole licensing UE4, working w/Epic). Due to the success of PUBG, companies are now tailoring their own battle royale modes to feel closer to PUBG (Epic Games being one) rather than something like battle royale in GTA V's Smuggler's Run. This opens the doors for other companies to potentially create battle royale games/modes that are similar to PUBG's unique take on battle royale (and potentially better). I'm not putting words in Bluehole's mouth. This was between them and Epic Games and in my original comment I address the company being concerned about Fortnite's Battle Royale specifically. Fortnite is the first to truly borrow PUBG ideas, and when I mention other companies posing a threat, the threat is not battle royale itself but new takes on PUBG's specific brand of battle royale. Also the CNN fake news thing is pretty damn old. Find a better insult.
I will never support games from Blueshit Studio. They ruined great games out of greed with microtransection after they feel they made enough money.
