Microsoft can't seem to grasp a full understanding of the PC market

freshslicepizza2386d ago

And you can't seem to grasp Microsoft has their own store. Sure they risk losing sales but they also don't throw away 30% of their revenue and risk having their game cracked the same day and being pirated. I do imagine after a certain timeframe it will come to Steam just like Killer Instinct did.

Of course Microsoft wants to push people to their own store, just like EA does with Origin.

conanlifts2384d ago

Actually as an xbox fan i think it s disgusting. What you need to remember is the game features xbox achievements and uses xbox live network and save storage. It is also being advertised with xbox games and media. Despite all of this and despite teir lack of xbox games this year it is not coming to xbox. Neither is the sequel. Yet they claim xbox vision is play anywhere and to leave no player behind. But none of the Age of Empire games are coming to xbox. There should be no defending this. MS are ignoring xbox with this.

nowitzki20042384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

Window Store is the worst out of all the services and thats why people are upset. Its MS game they can do as they want, doesn't mean people have to be happy about it.

Seafort2384d ago

No Microsoft risk throwing the vast majority of sales away just to have their own closed off store.

30% is nothing compared to what they are going to lose.

I certainly won't be touching the Windows Store ever again. It's why I've uninstalled it from my Win 10 PC.

I buy my games but not MS games on Win Store. I have over a thousand games on steam and several hundred on the other stores like GoG, Origin and Uplay.

I already have Age of Empires II HD Edition and Age of Mythology Extended Edition on steam.

Their choice to limit sales, my choice not to buy on Win Store.

Vasto2384d ago

Same with Blizzard and Battle.net

bluefox7552384d ago

@Vasto Battle.net is actually not bad though, it's better than Origin at least, and a hell of a lot better than the garbage Windows Store.

thekhurg2384d ago

You've never used Steam. That's 100% clear.

ShadowWolf7122383d ago

Age of Empires needs to stay far away from any console. Those are not the place for any RTS unless you wanna see them dumbed down for the sake of controllers.

ninsigma2386d ago

I don't see a problem with it. It's an MS game so they've every right to push it only on their own store if they wish. EA don't put their games on other store fronts on PC, they keep them on origin. What makes the PC market open is that you can buy keys from elsewhere and redeem the key on the necessary store front.

conanlifts2384d ago

It is an ms game that they are refusing to release on xbox despite their new " play anywhere" philosophy.

TheHan2384d ago

That’s not how this is going though. You can’t buy the game on Xbox live Store on your console and play the game. They are just selling the game on the Windows 10 Store even though Xbox Store is a Microsoft store front as well.

Death2384d ago

Is this a timed exclusive to Windows Store? With Phil getting promoted he will finally have the ability to merge the two together. I buy games on Steam, Battlenet, Origin and the Windows Store. I'm not losing much sleep when a game is exclusive to any of these store fronts. I'm looking forward to a time when all released on Windows Store are Playanywhere titles though.

Unspoken2384d ago

Fans are fine playing it through MS store. Age of Empires on a controller? Um go speak with the devs about that. Has nothing to do with why it was published to promote their own store front.

This has been a problem for them for a very long time.

Prince_TFK2384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

It is their game after all. They have the rights to launch it on whatever platforms they please.

Its not like Steam player can only access to Steam on their PC.

_LarZen_2384d ago

Idiots. There are games exclusive to Origin,Battlenet, Epic Launcher and even Steam.

TheHan2384d ago

If it came to Xbox I’d buy it in a heartbeat, I’m more than pissed off about this they need to release on Xbox to.

ShadowWolf7122383d ago

Please explain to me how you're gonna assign numerical designations to groups of soldiers that you can access and command with a single key press on a controller.

Unless you can describe a way to make that work for up to 9 groups at a time, it shouldn't happen.

TheHan2383d ago (Edited 2383d ago )

Easy you use the bumpers to go through your tags. RTS games have been on consoles sense the start of the PS1 from what I can remember, they have every right to be on consoles. Just like when they said you can’t play “FPS games on consoles” in the past but all that has changed and so has this closed minded bullshit about RTS games on consoles. You can select as many units as you want and assign them into a group by easily pressing and holding the trigger and use the D-Pad to select and make as many group tags as you need.

ShadowWolf7122383d ago

Cycling through them slows you down.

And RTS games have always been terrible on consoles, that's a fact.

Vasto2384d ago

I don't blame them. If you want it then go to the Windows Store and get.

There is nothing wrong with the Windows store. Click, Buy, Download. Just like all the others.

Age of Empires to support cross-play between Microsoft Store and Steam

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is an amazing experience. The title focuses on historic armies and significant conflicts that have occurred in the past. The first game spawned a couple of sequels, but there's something about the original that stands the test of time.

It looks amazing, hope there's CrossPlay with PS4 and Switch.

CaptainCook1781d ago (Edited 1781d ago )

??? Microsoft owns the Age of Empires IP.

--bienio--1781d ago

Never will happen. Microsoft owns this game.

mark_parch1781d ago

it's not even on xbox so can't see it coming to ps4 or switch

slate911781d ago

I know it's a troll. But that was hilarious

xX-oldboy-Xx1781d ago

Thank you slate 91 - not my best work, but I couldn't resist. To all the rest that took the time to reply - it is clearly a troll comment.

StormSnooper1781d ago (Edited 1781d ago )

What does cross play mean when talking about PC? Isn’t PC a free platform?

monkey6021781d ago

Yeah I feel like this should be a given and not need an article

traumadisaster1781d ago

Steam and MS are separate game clients and usually don't work together, so this is welcome

derektweed11780d ago

But multiplayer games do not work across platforms, for example, if a game is on steam and epic and microsoft store, normally, all those platforms will have separate multiplayer.

StormSnooper1780d ago

Yeah I realize that now. But there was a time that wasn’t the case. Now we got each publisher/developer with its own online account service. Unfortunately soon we will be paying for these services.

mark_parch1781d ago

I'm going to be pretty pissed off if the new age of empires and gears tactics don't come to xbox. Phil is busy putting games on every platform which is great but is ignoring the xbox community, what's the point in having mouse and keyboard support on xbox if you aren't even going to release your own ip on it lol.

slate911781d ago

Yeah, AoE should have been a thing a while ago. Hopefully saving that announcement for e3. But that is a big hope.

ShadowWolf7121780d ago

Age of Empires has always been a PC series, dude. You can't really get mad at him for focusing on that first here.

mark_parch1780d ago

I've got no problem with him focusing on the pc release first but I have a feeling it will never show up on xbox. It just makes his message of playing games on any device pretty confusing. hopefully I'm wrong

Imortus_san1781d ago (Edited 1781d ago )

Anounced it for Xbox One this E3.

BadElf1781d ago

Needs to be on the box as well
