What Took So Long for Nintendo's SD Card Storage Solution?

Kombo writes: "Since the console's launch, Wii owners have been vocal about the system's lack of storage space for things like game saves and downloads, demanding that Nintendo address the issue. Last week, Nintendo finally announced a solution -- enabling the option to save data to an SD Card. Considering SD Card support has been available in the Wii since its release, we're curious what took Nintendo so long to allow it to be used in this manner. At Nintendo's recent Media Summit event, we asked the company's Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Charlie Scibetta, what took so long to give gamers this solution." (Culture, Wii)
