Well it's got the smallest install base compared to Xbox and PlayStation so it's expected but 1%? Damn.

Also digital sales were not counted.

bouzebbal2395d ago

expected answer from fanboys.
even with larger install base sales would be around the same.
i dont know anybody who has switch and not PS4/x1.

2pacalypsenow2395d ago

Fanboys? lol I'm the farthest thing from a Switch fanboy, just ask EddieNX and Erik7357

PhoenixUp2396d ago

I still have the feeling that even with a larger install base, third parties will still have an issue selling their AAA games on the platform. Especially when its part of a franchise or genre that historically hasn't done well on Nintendo consoles.

Prince_TFK2395d ago

I don't think so. It doesn't sell because it lacks so many features from the other consoles/pc version. Even I picked up PC version.

If EA hadn't half assed their support this would have sold more.

_-EDMIX-_2395d ago

And it lacks those features because Nintendos weak hardware and lesser media format.

You can't blame Electronic Arts for Nintendo's hardware issues.

Is Electronic Arts also to blame for Doom running poorly compared to PlayStation 4 and Xbox?

The fact that you even own a gaming PC to play FIFA further actually proves my point that this company is not even a realistic option to buy 3rd party games based on their inconsistency with Hardware.

Because clearly FIFA's not performing this way on PlayStation 4 Xbox One and PC.....

I mean it speaks volumes that even you as one of the biggest Nintendo fans on this site clearly knows you must own another system to play one of your favorite properties in regards to FIFA.

Thanks.

Sorta my point

_-EDMIX-_2395d ago

This 100%.

This is exactly what I predicted and exactly what I've been telling people for the longest time.

If you keep having a history of having weak Hardware ,missing games , missing components like online you're actually going to see entire communities of gamers overall stop buying your systems.

If you're a fan of FIFA why would you ever even waste the time for this version? So you would have to consider that any fan of that game series clearly has already been used to a controller from rival companies

used to an online component that works from rival companies

used to a community of their friends that exist that rival companies

Nintendo lost this install base when they kept having a bunch of inconsistencies. Their decision to not take care of their media format problem all the way back in 2001 is why you're seeing this those fans have had literally decades to get used to other controller setups.

They've built trust from Sony Microsoft and clearly PC to play these games.

Because every Nintendo gamer going forward needs to question if the next Nintendo portable is even going to be strong enough to support the games that are going to be releasing on PlayStation 5 , Xbox 2, PC ...

But Playstation Xbox and PC Gamers do not need to wonder if their systems going to get support Next Generation they know they're getting it by default because they're competent companies in the first place.

Nintendo has made a habit of being inconsistent (and I would argue even suggesting that their inconsistent is to say they've ever been consistent previously)

These random moves have caused the community to not waste time gambling their Investments.

michellelynn09762395d ago

Is that why NBA 2k18 had all the features?

michellelynn09762395d ago

Well, NBA 2k18 has done great. Take two wants to get WWE out the same day as the others because of how well NBA 2k18 has done. So don't be so sure.

The problem is, all fifa fans currently play it on PS or XBOX and have been for 10 years straight. That and as 2pacalypse said, the installed Base is small.

It debuted at number 7 in UK and that's pretty good. I think EA expects it only to sell 200K not 5M like it will on the other consoles.....

Games like Doom have a much better chance with Nintendo fans.

Sciurus_vulgaris2396d ago

I wouldn't be too sure of Doom doing well on Switch compared to Fifa 18. Doom is over a year old, and the Switch version is technically inferior to and more expensive than the XB1,PS4 and PC version.

EddieNX 2396d ago

Doom and Skyrim are both gunna do fine on Switch, I've got a good feeling. There's a.market for portable AAA games on Switch. I'm getting Doom!

Sirk7x2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

US is a strong market for the Switch, and we really don't give a crap about soccer for the most part. I probably wouldn't play it if it were free on any console lol. It's very possible that these games will perform better sales wise.

bouzebbal2395d ago

lol yeah whatever..
Doom doing better than Fifa.

EddieNX 2395d ago

On Switch? I think it will. Skyrim will sell a LOT more that fifa will on Switch, think about it.

bouzebbal2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

i do think but i dont come to the same conclusion, especially for a 3+year old game (maybe more).
same story with LA Noire, worthless port.

PapaBop2395d ago

This problem won't be exclusive to fifa though, the same can be said for literally any major third party franchise. Arguably you could say this goes double for Doom considering it's built up a solid fanbase on PC for over two decades. That's potentially a problem the Switch will have, they are banking heavily on the novelty of the freedom of playing the game on the go.

sizeofyou2395d ago

Have to agree. Most people will already have a superior copy of these titles on another platform and will only double-dip for a classic on the go experience of a genre they REALLY like. If those titles short change, they'll probably stick to the exclusives by Nintendo - providing of course, they like the Nintendo releases too!

PlayableGamez-2395d ago

Lol. Here comes the excuses...

_-EDMIX-_2395d ago

"The problem is, all fifa fans currently play it on PS or XBOX and have been for 10 years straight"

I'm curious so why do you think that is? So do you guys know understand what I mean when I say not having these features in regards to online , their media format and Hardware is actually going to keep multiple install bases away from them?

Who is to blame for this?

When you consistently don't have an online functionality you're going to consistently not get those fans.

When you consistently don't have an appropriate media format you're going to consistently not get multiple game series.

When you consistently don't have competent Hardware compared to your competitors you're going to consistently miss out on specific franchises.

So if you're Call of Duty FIFA Battlefield Battlefront Far Cry Assassin's Creed Final Fantasy fan what have you, why would you ever buy those series on a platform that has no history of consistency in those areas?

You guys don't want to listen ,you don't want to actually really discussed this, yet when the low game sales come, it's your new excuse.

So all Nintendo has done was allow multiple franchises in millions upon millions of Gamers get used to PlayStation PC and Xbox.

They've essentially lost those Gamers likely permanently because if your FIFA fan the Playstation or Xbox controller is already something you're familiar with

This has nothing to do with a small install base because that did not stop Zelda from moving four million units on that system, this has to do with an install base that generally does not buy third party games. The biggest fans of FIFA exist on other platforms because those platforms guarantee the best experiences for those games.

At this point I do not believe it's possible for them to ever get that crowd to buy their system.

If you're a big FIFA fan I would also assume you're going to be familiar with the system you've already been playing the previous games on in terms of controller layout, Also let's not forget about community in regards to online they've made friends over the years with this game.

Multiply that times multiple series and you now realize why this company may not be able to get that consumer-based back.

Why I Have a Problem with Microtransactions and You Should Too

BY PHANTOM: Why should someone who has worked hard and grinded day in, day out to build up enough resources to gain quick repairs, be in the same game world as people who have purchased the kits with real-world money instantaneously?

One of the most well thought out and factual article I've read on micro transactions. I've hated the practice because to me it's just wrong unless it's a F2P title.

What gets me is the ones who say "if you don't like it don't buy it" well I don't but enough do, more than enough and it's really conditioning a generation to just accept it as "this is normal."

That's why I rally to those companies that still deliver solid FULL games. Games that are not only incredible to experience but are of some of the best quality. On the flip side that's why Im so anti certain companies. They want to deliver games that seem so sterile and cut content to sell to customers in the game stores.

I lump the GAAS, loot boxes and micotransactions into the same pile because they all exist together in one form or another.

The devs who came from the mobile game model really played s hand in getting the attention of the suits.

TekoIie1834d ago (Edited 1834d ago )

"I lump the GAAS, loot boxes and micotransactions into the same pile because they all exist together in one form or another."

I would disagree slightly there. GaaS model does not require loot boxes or MT's to work and a few good examples off the top of my head would be Total War: Warhammer 2 and Total War: Rome 2. TW:R2 was at launch considered to be one of the worst TW games of all time but because of mod support, updates and we'll timed free and paid content releases it has a strong community and is now a highly recommended game.

TW:W2 is the opposite at launch and is maybe the best TW game of all time and treats it's previous instalment as an expansion in a way (basically if you own the previous game it merges the maps to a degree). Like Rome 2 it's recieved great mod support, lots of updates along with free and paid content.

GaaS by itself isn't bad and in some ways I dislike lumping it altogether with MT's and
Loot boxes. I agree that many of the games that make use of the service have something questionable mixed into the model but the obvious answer there is stop supporting those games. You can in some ways see RE2 and DMC5 making use of the model too.

Hardiman1834d ago (Edited 1834d ago )

Doesn't require them and I get what you are saying but but I'd argue it's fertile ground for them. That's what loot boxes/micro transactions are about. Extending profits. Monthly subs are the same thing. Cheaper games to create but games that maximize profits. It doesn't take much imagination to see where this leads and why some companies push for subscriptions!

The same massive corps that all too often push micro transactions want the industry to be subscriptions based. Let's just say they come from the same mindset.

You are correct in that GAAS isn't bad in and of itself but again I don't see games like GOW, Spider-Man, HZD, Red Dead 2, Uncharted, Sekiro, TLOU, Zelda and any of the other high quality SP games existing if it's just GAAS. No I see games like Fallout 76, Anthem, State of Decay, Sea of Theives, Fortnite etc.

TekoIie1833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

Your list is actually very interesting because some of those SP games can actually be seen as using the GaaS model or at the very least portions of it in the eyes of some. To my knowledge Spider-Man, TLoU, Uncharted 3+4 and Zelda all had a season pass which can very easily be considered as something that comes under GaaS in that it creates an additional revenue stream beyond the inital purchase.

A lot of the DLC for games like Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us can very easily be categorized as Micro-transactions. Cosmetics definitely come under the MT umbrella so why are these games exempt from the criticism but not others? And are these games exempt from the term but not the others you listed? Also why would you rather not see games like Dota 2, Splatoon 2, Halo 3, Diablo 3, Apex Legends etc.? Point being there are many top tier games that are using the GaaS model and many top tier SP games doing the exact same.

UltraNova1833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

This logic can be applied to the recent upheaval about an easy mode in Sekiro. Guy A, spends X amount of time grinding it out until he/she finally overcomes the difficulty and "gits gud". Guy, spends 1/3 of the time beating the game without breaking a sweat because of an easy mode( analogy: paid progression in online games). Both brag about beating the game. You get the rest...

BlackIceJoe1833d ago

Microtransactions are the worst thing that has happened to video games this generation and because of them now games are being designed with them in mind.

CrimsonWing691833d ago

Here’s the thing, until people stop buying them they will always exist. It’s a market and a multi-billion dollar one at that.

If people didn’t buy them then publishers wouldn’t waste their time on them.

UltraNova1833d ago

If they didn't add them people wouldn't buy them and get addicted to them. There is always two sides on a coin.

CrimsonWing691833d ago

But my point is that people feed it. People need to learn some self-control. It'd be like if people start getting pissed at publishers because people are addicted to video games or getting mad at card makers because people waste their money on collecting cards.

rpvenom1833d ago

@Crimonswing69

This is the same concept of a casino.. do you think that casino's benefit people in general? No.. majority of people go there to lose money.. if they didn't exist.. or people didn't have access to it.. then we'd be better off.. but the reality is some can control or afford to lose the money.. while most cant.. and most cant even control that addiction or desire to gamble.. it's because of greed that people are willing to ruin other's lives to make a profit.. dont get me wrong.. i go to the casino's sometime just to hang out with my friends and maybe spend $100.. but i have some self control.. most people dont.

off topic but i see both casino's and microtransactions as a way of corporations to take advantage of consumers stupidity

So long as they're just cosmetic or can be obtained for free in game idc.
