"Defeating the final boss in efforts to reclaim the power of the Traveler at the end of Destiny 2’s campaign was a moment of Shakespearian closure. At least it was in comparison to being awarded a throwaway gun from the mysterious brooding Hunter that made meaningless appearances throughout Destiny 1’s story. This time, Bungie sought out to deliver more narrative, more character, and ultimately more incentives to play through Destiny 2’s sequence of story missions. At times, it works surprisingly well, even hinting at what could have been an emotional experience as a melodramatic space opera. But as much as Destiny 2 tries to masquerade as a story of a sole hero, it’s an online shooter first and foremost that often contradicts its own narrative."
