RIVE is Confirmed to Hit 1080p and 60fps on Switch, Runs 'Smoother Than PS4 Version'

Nintendolife: "We've been fans of Two Tribes' swansong release, RIVE, since it arrived on PC and other consoles. The downside is that it's had a long road to Nintendo hardware, with technical challenges and a shrinking market ending the Wii U version, and since that point we've had a wait for the Switch edition."

Lol if it runs better on weaker hardware its a development issue but i do like the game.

Loktai80d ago

LOL @ People disagreeing. If all was equal you'd be exactly right...

Actually the issue is probably that the details are turned down, so though it runs the same resolution something was changed elsewhere and that makes it smoother, where on the PS4 they went for maximum visuals in order to be up to par for a PS4 game.

KickSpinFilter80d ago

LOL Resogun, has far far much more going on than this game, @Slavish0 is correct it's the developer.

wonderfulmonkeyman80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

Doesn't look like the details are turned down.
Honestly it's not that detail-heavy to begin with; they've probably just done a better job of optimizing it on Switch.
A patch to the PS4 version would fix, for example, whatever disparity there is with the time it takes to save, compared to the Switch version.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on an optimization patch as we speak, in fact.

In any case, this just shows that the devs behind RIVE really loved working with the Switch and went the extra mile.
That's a good thing, right? Or does this HAVE to be about protecting the pride of Sony fans who just can't be happy for someone on another console for once in their lives?

quent80d ago

How would you know what details are turned down when you're on ps4 , does it make it a low vs very low comparison then ?

mikeslemonade80d ago

Probably misinterpreted. No way a switch game will technically run better. Maybe better controls and less bugs but not run better.

ShadowWolf71279d ago (Edited 79d ago )

@wonderfulmonkeyman
Not their job to care about the experience of someone on another console, let alone "be happy" for them. If their experience on hardware clearly capable of the same or better performance is objectively worse, however, that IS their business.

You'll also note: nobody's blaming the Switch, getting pissy with Nintendo, etc. They're blaming the dev for a clearly poor job at optimization.

And if they "went the extra mile" with the Switch and not the others? Then that's pretty clear favoritism on their part, and not something to be applauded by anyone without that version just cuz the people with it have a better experience. They have a right to expect the same treatment as consumers, plain and simple. Playing defense has no place here other than as a knee-jerk "defend anything related to the Switch" reaction.

indyman7779d ago (Edited 79d ago )

If people had read the article they would not have to say things like "probably that the details are turned down"......sounds like a guess and assumption eh?

The reason it runs so good at 60fps @1080p is listed int the article QUOTE:
"and the developer - working with Engine Software - has been busily optimising the game. " end quote.

Their you have it it was optimized for the SWITCH.

People are quick to say developers are lazy but will not admit when they went the extra mile.

well it looks like the switch is more powerful than the ps4 now

egidem79d ago

I'm sure it's just an optimization issue. If it runs better on the Switch, it can be made to run even better on the PS4.

badz14980d ago

LOL at all the asskissing from this dev and in the end, Switch owners still won't buy their game that much

Shuckylad80d ago

By smoother they mean the save points aren't briefly stalling the game like it does I guess on PS4. It's not down to graphics.

Switch more powerful than PS4 confirmed!

bluefox75580d ago (Edited 80d ago )

Lazy developers if true. Maybe they'll fix it with a patch.

DarXyde80d ago

Imagine these developers in a job interview after the fact:

"So what skills can you bring to our organization?"

"Well, I don't mean to brag, but I was part of a team that developed a game for the eighth generation consoles and got the Switch version to run better. than the PS4."

"Sooo...you got a game to run better on weaker hardware, which means you got a game to run *worse on *better hardware--and on x86 hardware no less."

"So let's talk about my salary..."

"Get out."

omegaheat80d ago

That was some funny shit.

badz14980d ago

@DarXyde

not if they are applying to be Nintendo's 1st party, though. Nintendo be like:

"Well, I don't mean to brag, but I was part of a team that developed a game for the eighth generation consoles and got the Switch version to run better. than the PS4."

Nintendo: say no more. you start right now! oh...and don't to put Mario in it.
