Square Enix Ltd., today announced that the worldwide shipment and digital sales of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic action-RPG, Nier Automata.
And suddenly the Drakengard series is popular, or at least its spinoff NieR series is
I hope they do a Drakengard Remake for their next game, or part 4, either way is good with me.
enough with the remakes. Just move forward damn. We need new games....not old ones.
@Jugo14 I feel like most of the people who played Nier have no idea where the franchise even came from. Quite a lot don't even know it's an offshoot of Drakengard, while I am not a big fan of remakes, I feel this is one game series that could benefit from it.
I actually wouldn't mind remakes of older Nier/Drakengard games because I never played them, maybe a remaster would be more fitting while they work on new games. Nier/Drakengard games are all connected to each other anyway.
Drakengard actually was already popular at the start on the PS2. The series just fell off.
It's quite bizarre to me that this game even got made. Especially as a Yoko Taro + Platinum production. Automata is amazing, and I'm glad it's a success story for Platinum, because it's just what they needed after the whole Scalebound cancelation. 2 million sold is outstanding for this niche series. Hopefully a sequel is on the cards.
@ That Drakengard was a niche franchise prior. It's never been this successful and Yoko Taro's name wasn't as well known before this
The thing it would benefit most from a remake is Platinum once again making it. Drakengard doesn't play well AT ALL but the stories are so good you overlook it.
Im OK with that. Although i think a lot of people that brought this game may not be familiar with Drakengard or Niers connection to it.
I'll be buying it by the end of the year. So you can add one more to that total.
"But single player games dont sell" - Fools I've had a good year on Steam with Nier Automata and Hellblade.
I've had a good year on PS4 Pro with Nier and Hellblade.
Even if I was a PC only gamer, I'd be grateful for playstation, some of the best games on PC this year likely wouldn't exist without Sony.
Lol I like how it was quoted "Fools" 😂😂😂 Two of my favorite games this year on top of Horizon and Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 there was just an onslaught of great games this year.
I know right, I can't keep up with the games to the point I have to start writing lists so I remember what to buy when I have the time and money for it.
@Final-I still haven't played Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and I still have not played the Yakuza 1 remake and I still have not played Titanfall 2 as that has been on my list to play since last year this has just been an extremely packed year for quality games. I mean to be honest this is probably the greatest problem any gamer could have at this point lol On top of that Hellblade is getting just so many great reviews too, this generation is just completely unbelievable if we get one more year even slightly like this year I'm ready to just say this is better than PlayStation 2 generation. Just when I think the onslaught of games is slowing down Yakuza 2 remake is announced Yakuza hero is announced Fist of the North Star game is announced and Left Alive new Mech armored Core IP is announced annnnd starts hyperventilating in brown bag.
Yo definitely thus, I'm tired of this bullshit argument that people mostly only want multiplayer when this year alone you have games like horizon zero dawn, nioh, persona 5, Zelda botw, nier automata and such selling millions upon millions of copies. I guess it just takes more effort to make a decent single player game and it's a hell of a lot harder to shove microtransaction in them. Guess that's why these clowns just default to churning out multiplayer focused titles
I didn't realize Hellblade was on PC til you mentioned it. Gonna have to check it out.
I should have bought it in GOG instead of Steam due to no DRM.
There are still issues on PC, Indy. Be warned. PS4 would be a better choice at this point.
I always hated how the PC gets the crappy ports and the console version is the best.
I think all the amazing single-player games like NieR: Automata, Hellblade, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Uncharted, Gravity Rush 2, Nioh, Yakuza 0 + Kiwami, Crash Bandicoot, Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn have done better than anything Microsoft has released this year (excluding maybe Phantom Dust which they gave away for free). 2018 is not looking to be any different. The Phil Spencer claim about single-player games is just a sad, deflective excuse as why they're against investing more in the kinds of single-player games that have been lighting up the charts throughout the year.
So glad to see this. The game is excellent. Japan has been killing it this gen with games.
Now fix the PC version. Still enjoyed it though, and have my fingers crossed for a better port of Left Alive.
I agree although I'm very happy that this game was successful in terms of sales I'm still upset to hear that the PC version is suffering from so many issues hopefully they could get their act together with Left Alive on PC or I think they're going to be on a very bad footing with that Community why even make a PC version if they're just going to neglect the system?
I know it's not official or nothing, but I think I read somewhere, that modders have fixed some of the issues. Should probably look into it dude :D
Then SE should pay the modders. LOL
Lol @R6-that's what I'm saying although it sounds strange and arbitrary I think it's correct for them to do everything they can to remedy the problem even if it means going down and unconventional path. Policy is not really about waving a magic wand and everything is fixed policy-making for the most part is about finding a problem and using all your resources economically feasible to fix it and in this respect I sort of think it might make sense for them to have a program in which they start paying modders to fix some of these issues if it means all Gamers getting a quality game so they could crowdsource out some of those problems which helps everyone involved. I would actually love to buy some of these games on PC but I'm just worried about the quality considering they don't have the best history with that system. It's like there are many games I buy on PC simply because I know the developer does those versions good and there are many games I simply Buy on PlayStation 4 simply because I know the developer has a better history with consoles etc
I bet it would sell even more on pc if they would patch the issues out.
Yup. No patch, no buy.
I feel bad for not buying this yet. I've just been buying other stuff plus other games keep coming out.
Good numbers.. This gen was better than last
Ma GOTY, came out of nowhere and overwhelmed my expectations. I really love weirdness and stuff that's different.
I bought it, and was glad I did...but to me it was a more...meh game. Still I'm glad it's getting good sales.
I do hope that there will be future games for both Nier and Drakengard series. I just hope that they allow Platinum Games to develop them though because they did a fantastic job with Nier Automata. Same goes Yoko Taro. He has such a creative mind and I do hope they hire him again for future projects of those IPs.
I wonder what the game's budget was. Either way, I love NieR: Automata. Fine work, Platinum. Soundtrack is awesome too. Become as Gods is legendary.
I forget where it is mentioned. But I believe it was a few million.
This year was the best I can remember in over 30 years of gaming. This was down to mainly all those releases on the PS4 and a couple of RTS games making their return on PC and the return of Nintendo in a big way!. Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Nier: Automata, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nioh, Knack 2, Uncharted: TLL, Persona 5 (as good as gaming gets) and on and on. Then there was Zelda and the forthcoming Super Mario Odyssey. What a year! I have so many games backed up to play and with all those titles yet to come, I am going to be playing till the day I meet my maker. It was never expected that Nier would do so well but then one should expect something special from Platinum Games. I cannot understand how Microsoft did not simply allow Platinum to do what they need to with Scalebound but instead cancelled what could have been a stellar game.
Platinum said that that an Xbox one version is in the cards if the game would sell well. then when it did they said they aren't going to make one. i can play on ps4 but would be nice of them to follow through.
They said they would "consider" it. They did not say it was definite if the game sold well. I doubt it will happen considering how poorly Japanese games sell on Xbox.
Their exact words was what i used saying it "was in the cards". It won't happen now as they appear to have thrown out those cards despite the game selling well.
That wasn't a quote. https://gamerant.com/nier-a...
Nier Automata is my second fave game this year behind Yakuza 0. I loved the first game as well but so glad this game fixed the issues. So glad to see Nier and a Platinum game sell well. They both needed it. It's a shame so much mediocre AAA stuff sells like gangbusters but a masterpiece like this only 2 million. Yes, it's good sales and glad it did but it deserves so much more. Easily one of the better stories in gaming.
But wait, I thought people didn't play exclusives?
Are these sales figures for ps4 only or ps4 and PC?
PC and PS4
I might get it but still got a load of stuff to play through since the steam summer sale... might grab it in winter sale
well deserved a really good game in deed!!
Already on twitter got xbox fanboy's crying on how Nier only sold to 4% of the fanbase. LMAO pathetic damage control.
To be honest, and this really isn't trolling, I'm being serious and straight faced here, but if the PS boys stopped going on about how exclusives make/break a console then you wouldn't see comments like this from the xbox boys. They are simply responding to a point which is quite frankly rammed down their throats constantly. And if (and I don't know whether it is or not) the 4% figure is true, then maybe they have a point no?
No, it is just salty fanboy responses from the Xbox crowd.
@Dealergaming Maybe so. Problem is a lot of console gamers are kids so you see a lot of sh1te being posted on both sides. PS boys taking the piss about no exclusives, xbox boys quoting sales figures saying exclusives aren't always mainstream and bragging about x1x horsepower. Way I see it no matter which side youre on if you've got to brag about it or take the piss out of the other side, maybe theyre just a bit insecure and trying to justify their choice. Lucky them, if the choice of console was my biggest worry id be a happy man haha
If you look at past generations of console gaming across many successful platforms such as SNES, NES, PS1, PS2, XB360, Genesis, etc and look at the games sales of what we consider killer apps you will see the majority fall within the 4% to 7% range. Very few games break 10% or higher. For example, God of War. Huge franchise and killer system selling app for the playstation brand. Yet God of War 1 sold 3.4% and God of War 2 sold 2.8%. So using Xbox fanboy logic, God of War is a franchise that doesn't really matter. This is just one example. I can use Devil may Cry, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken and many more. And it's not just PS fanboys, it's also PC and Nintendo fans that understand the importance of exclusives. Xbox community are the only ones dismissing it simply because of Microsoft as a 1st party publisher is doing a poor job of pushing exclusives. So instead of admitting MS has huge problem they rather pretend the problem doesn't exist.
Love this game!
