Unsuspecting Titles Will Keep Coming to Switch, Because This is a Different Nintendo

It seems like every month since the Nintendo Switch launched, we have been continuously surprised by what games are being announced for the hybrid platform. Seeing games the like Minecraft and Sonic Mania were totally suspected, however, other games that are (or will be) on the platform weren’t so obvious. This is our first clue that Nintendo isn’t the same company as before.

As a fan, very happy so far.
Just beat Mario Rabbids, great game! ( loved Rabbid Peach )
Also waiting for golf story.

MegamanXXX2407d ago

I beat Legend of Zelda a month ago it's my personal GOTY. Looking forward to Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade, and Metro. Splatoon 2 was fun too. Lots of respect for Nintendo

BadElf2407d ago

Mario Rabbids was a great surprise for me. I hate those types of games usually...but in that world, with those characters and music....its great. Golf Story looks like fun. Finally have a positive feeling with Nintendo

yeahokwhatever2407d ago

im a little peeved at Mario Rabbids, mainly because the sizzle reel makes it look like a fun action game and I got it for my kids. Then it turns out they have to complete the entire first world before they can play co-op(the reason i bought the game) and its a turn based strategy game. ._.

Nintendew2407d ago

Loved Zelda!
Have a brother who is not a big gamer, he couldn't put Zelda down.
Mario Odyssey is a must for me, haven't missed a main Mario game yet.

Just wish Mario Sluggers and Strikers would get announced soon, or luigis mansion.

What I a suprise for me is all the great looking ninties, golf story, 8-bit armies, shakedown Hawaii, can't wait!

BadElf2407d ago

Mario Strikers 3 is NEEDED!

Nintendew2407d ago

@badelf
I'm a big fan of the Mario sports games.
Strikers is one of those games that I can just sit and play for hrs and hrs.
My brothers and friends love to play on a team.

As a Nintendo fan, great year for switch, can't wait for next year to see what's coming out!

Also, mind if I add you as a friend badelf?
Same goes for you Megamanxxx?
Like to ask before hand if it's ok?

The 10th Rider2407d ago

Honestly a Mario Strikers would be my most anticipated Switch title.

It'd be the perfect title to put together for an online showcase for the Switch.

Personally I think they should take some notes from MOBAs. Now the game itself shouldn't be like a MOBA, but in MOBAs each player has a specific role. In Mario Strikers they could easily make it so you have characters with defensive roles, passing roles, and scoring roles. A good team would have a balance of each along with, of course, the captain. By looking at MOBAs and really taking the idea of roles to heart they could put out a game that's really huge on the competitive side.

On top of that I think they should model the style of the game after the World Cup. They should call it "Mario Strikers: Kingdom Cup" or something like that and different Nintendo games should be represented as various "Kingdoms" (the countries). They could obviously have the Mushroom Kingdom and a Kingdom for Bowser, as well as a Donkey Kong Kingdom. However they could easily bring in a Dreamland Kingdom, Lylat Kingdom, Hyrule Kingdom, and something for Pokemon as well as a few other characters. Each Kingdom would only need three players and a captain, so it they could put in a ton of Mario characters and the game would still be predominately Mario.

The series just has so much potential and it'd be awful for them to abandon it so early. Here's hoping that's what Next Level Games has got up their sleeve.

Nintendew2407d ago

@the 10th rider
Great idea!
One thing I wanted changed was the character roles.
A team of 1 captain and rest were side characters filling in.
Why not Peach close quarters shooter and say Luigi being a pass expert and say DK a defense expert, all on the same team.
Also, take the waffle shot away, kinda ruined the game a bit.

Unfortunately there really isn't enough coming to Switch to make it worth buying, and the outrageous cost of peripherals is a great reason to skip the handheld. Nintendo is once again trying to squeeze consumers with hugely overpriced hardware and accessories, and people should vote against this anti-consumer approach by not buying their products.

Lockdown5552407d ago

Isn't enough coming to Switch?! Have you not looked at their lineup lately? And these outrageously priced peripherals you talk about are not required to play the console. Literally everything you need is in the box. Ignorance is a cancer...

Erik73572407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Well actual sale data says otherwise and is selling more than TEN TIMES the amount of ps4 ( latest week sales was 69,000 units while ps4 was 6,900) in Japan while right behind ps4 in America with much bigger shortages. https://www.kotaku.com.au/2...

I really dont see any reason why ps4/xbox is worth buying because its a bad imitation of pc gaming with lower rated exclusives compared to Nintendo. When people see people playing stuff like Doom on that portable screen in the library, on the bus, traveling, where ever it's going to leave a STRONG impression on them because they've never seen anything like this on the go.

2pacalypsenow2407d ago

"I really don't see any reason why Ps4/Xbox is worth buying because its a bad imitation of PC gaming with lower rated exclusives compared to Nintendo."

Bad imitation? If the games on XBox/Ps4 are so bad graphically compared to a PC, where does that leave the Switch? You act like everyone wants portable gaming, yes there is a market for it, but most people are fine playing games at home. And not everyone drools at Zelda or Mario, Ill take a wide variety of new/old IP's than the same old ones that get "rated higher".

You sound like a damn infomercial, always bringing up the PS4 and Xbox 1 on Switch articles and how underpowered they are compared to a PC, ignoring the fact that the Switch is the most underpowered console in the market (even more so when it's "Portable"), but somehow that doesn't matter because it's portable? So the games having lower resolutions and fps on the PS4/Xbox 1 matter but not the switch because its "Nintendo"?

wonderfulmonkeyman2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

There's no reason to put down PS4 and XBox just for the sake of shutting down a Nintendo hater, dude.

I could understand if you were having a go at the horribly arrogant members of each fanbase, but the systems themselves are great and have some really good games.
Be a little more fair. Sure, they don't really have anything on PC, in the areas of graphics and power which is what most of the fanboys use for defense of consoles, but that doesn't mean that they aren't worthwhile or that their graphics or power levels are unsatisfactory.

yeahokwhatever2407d ago

There's at least 15-20 switches in stock at every retailer in driving distance of my house in the bay area. If there was ever a shortage, it was a hype plan by Nintendo and not due to demand. It seems like all of the hardcore Nintendo fans have their switches now, and the real world couldn't be bothered.

FinalomegaS2406d ago

@yeahokwhatever

"There's at least 15-20 switches in stock at every retailer in driving distance of my house in the bay area. If there was ever a shortage, it was a hype plan by Nintendo and not due to demand."

so the entire country of Japan waiting in those god forsaken lines is must be part of this shortage plan....all those lost sales... the hopes and dreams of those poor souls waiting to buy a winning ticket to allow them to buy a system...???

guy, because you might have in your district does not mean the entire supply chain globally should have.

same could be said about all those japanese consumers that see XBOX systems on the shelf... sooooo the xbox family systems have been selling poorly since the first xbox? Each location gets a pre-determined quantity based of whatever data the market research did. That doesn't mean they know spot on that it will sell out.

now if one person from each US state went around their state and took an inventory count per state... most will have none while some will.

Supply & demand on a global scale isn't like, a couple of states having stock and the majority of the world says " Sold Out", therefore there is no shortage issue.

The 10th Rider2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

I mean, former 3DS developers are already working on Switch games. There's Project Octopath Traveler from the Bravely Default devs, and Pokemon is coming to Switch. It's also likely the Switch will start to see the very Japanese games that have been keeping the Vita afloat.

So basically the Switch going forwards will be like if the Wii U, Vita, and 3DS were all combined into one platform. I imagine it will have a strong slew of titles: A lot of formerly handheld series, a lot of Japanese games, the full force of Nintendo's first party studios . . . all in addition to the indies they've been courting over the years and a few AAA Western third-party titles to pad things out.

Also the MSRP of peripherals is about the same as any other console was at launch. Joy-Con's have an MSRP of $80, but I picked up a pair for $64 around launch. The Pro controller has an MSRP of $70, but I easily found one for $60. Those are both pretty par-for-the-course when it comes to the cost of accessories during the launch of a new console.

Nintendew2407d ago

???
Sorry you're bitter but switch has been great so far!

Are you bitter because you can't find one to buy or what? Seriously?
Also $300 is not overpriced. Seems like people don't mind it.

Excuse me, got some octopath demo and some Double Dragon 4 to play on switch.

TheFirstClassic2407d ago

Mario kart 8 deluxe
Splatoon 2
Breath of the Wild
Arms
Xenoblade chronicles 2
Mario Odyssey
Mario rabbids

All those exclusives in the first year plus others I missed, games like skyrim and doom, the eventual metroid and pokemon, there are tons of reasons to get a switch.

Prince_TFK2407d ago

Plus Pokken Tournament and Fire Emblem Warriors. Its been a great first year for the Switch.

BadElf2407d ago

Wuh? Nintendo is finally starting to go in the right direction with games. It will just keep getting better from here

Prince_TFK2407d ago

There are more exclusive games coming to the Switch at the end of the year than the PS4 pr the Xbox one.

Peripherals and accessories are what it is, optional. You are not required to buy any of it to fully experience the Switch.

And Nintendo are anti-consumer? What planet did you come from?

wonderfulmonkeyman2407d ago

Your narrow taste in games doesn't make the Switch's lineup small.
There are over 300 titles for Switch if you include those coming within the next year.
Haters like you are just once again trying to downplay a system you're intellectually incapable of understanding the appeal of.

Godmars2902407d ago

Naw. Same Nintendo, they're just getting 3rd party support - finally.

Nintendew2407d ago

Wasn't that what people wanted, 3rd party support yet now for some it's still not enough?

Godmars2902407d ago

Its enough. Aside from likely purposeful shortages.

Nintendew2407d ago

Purposeful shortages is a excuse that's overused and honestly starting to get old now.
Parts race is the problem!

Prince_TFK2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Again I ask, any proof to this "purposeful shortage" thing? Any links to those articles at all with scientific proofs instead of mere speculation?

yeahokwhatever2407d ago

Want proof of a purposeful shortage by Nintendo? Look no further than the classic NES BS-ery. How fast and at what insanely low cost do you think ANY company could churn those out?

Prince_TFK2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Didn't they say the classic NES is limited edition? I.E. they only produce a small amount of it?

https://www.google.com.kh/a...

Here is a quote “NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans,” it told IGN. "

That is a proof to backup what I said. Where's your?

Benjaminkno2407d ago

I think the article should be "unsuspected"

It makes it sound like games are coming to Switch surprisingly without their knowledge.

2pacalypsenow2407d ago

Nintendo is the same, its just a new platform.

Prince_TFK2407d ago

Yeah the same with great games that we had come to expect from them, on an entirely new and more capable platform.

sk8ofmnd2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Different Nintendo my ass...

Still overpriced hardware/software
Still chasing casuals
Still motion controls
Still underpowered
Still 1 major flaw per gen (memory)
Still ran by the same old fossils
Still... And the list goes on

How exactly is Nintendo different??

The only differences i see is they dropped the wii surname, combined home and handheld devs, and they look to be suprisingly getting AAA 3rd party devs on board. Everything else literally is exactly the same...

Ickythump312407d ago

Don't you people have anything better to do than bash nintendo on a VIDEO GAME news site.
how pathetic can you be?

TallonIV2407d ago

They love boasting about their exclusives yet they don't seem to be playing them xD

AKR2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

"Overpriced hardware/software" - Switch costs $300. PS4 Pro is $400 and Xbox One X is $500. It's the cheapest of all the newly-released systems.

"Chasing casuals" - Where's the games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit? 1-2 Switch is the closest thing to games like those, and it's come and gone.

"Still motion controls" - All Switch titles that have implemented motion controls have used them as an optional feature, not mandatory.

"Still underpowered" - The Switch is powerful enough to have the full support of modern engines like Unity and Unreal Engine 4. Ubisoft even got Snowdrop running on the system flawlessly.

"Still 1 major flaw per gen (memory)" - $14 is all it takes to double the Switch's storage. That's a nothing issue.

"Still ran by the same old fossils" - Actually, a lot of recent first-party titles have been developed mostly by new, younger development teams (like Splatoon 2). Yoshiaki Koizumi, the engineer behind Switch is a lot younger than most of the other executives.

Nintendo is not as closed and tight-fisted as it used to be. It allowed cross-play with Rocket League and Minecraft. In fact, MInecraft's cross-play is ran through Xbox Live and Nintendo still agreed to implement it. The advertising has dramatically improved over the Wii/Wii U days, not to mention the frequency of it has been substantially higher. These are just a few of the major shifts that have happened with the company recently. Overall, there's a lot of tweaking going on behind the scenes whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

Nintendew2407d ago

Weird?, can't recall a Xbox portable home console or Sony?
Company developers have said has been very helpful and wanting of games.
Have a product ( key word ) that people are crazy over.

Very different then decade ago Nintendo has been.

Prince_TFK2407d ago

Another new day, another positive Nintendo article, another insecured trolls trying to downplay it as usual.

Its kindda becoming a pattern here on N4G. If its not about articles that kiss Sony's ass, expect people like this to show up.

wonderfulmonkeyman2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Software is still the same price for the majority of their titles; only a few certain third parties seem to be overpricing them.
And if you argue that Nintendo's games are worth less and should be priced less, then slap yourself and STFU.

Chasing casuals?
Go look at all of the CoD, Battlefield, Destiny, Overwatch, etc players you have, and in any single ONE of those games, I will guarantee that you'll find a higher number of squeakers than in any average Mario Kart match.
YOU'RE the one with the casuals problem now, so you have no room to talk.

Still motion controls?
Need I remind you that Sony came out with the Move wand prototype before the Wii was even a thing? Or that Kinect sold tons? Or that gyroscopic motion controls are STILL a thing on other platforms too? Or that shooters function BETTER on consoles with some amount of motion controls? Or that VR wouldn't be even half the hype wave it currently is without motion controls lending a hand or two?
Good lord, trying to make fun of things like that proves you've got no clue how important they've become to gaming. No wonder no one listens to you.

Everything is underpowered compared to PC, and Wolfenstein II: TNC is a brand-new current-gen game and yet is still coming to Switch, meaning your claim of it being "underpowered" is so exaggerated that anyone with a brain would just laugh at you for saying so, so get off your high horse.

Still 1 major flaw per gen?
Acting like no other company has not had at least one big flaw per system is really ignorant and outright fanboyish.
NO system is perfect.

Same people in charge?
Gee, I wonder which company got rid of EVERYONE IN CHARGE every time a new console launched...
Oh, that's right.
NO ONE.
And it hasn't sunk any of THEM yet, so it's certainly not going to sink Nintendo.

How exactly does any of the hate-filled vitriole you've spewed make Nintendo doomed?
Rhetorical question; it doesn't.

Just because you're wearing your console war soldier's goggle strapped so tightly that you've effectively blinded yourself to the differences, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Maybe try putting down your bias and giving the Switch a fair shot instead of cherry-picking everything as if it's the worst thing anyone's ever done to you as a gamer.
Maybe then you'll have a clue.
*mic drop, walks out*

2407d ago
pcz2406d ago

I agree. Until I see GTA on the switch along with other AAA multi platform titles such as resident evil etc, I have no reason to believe Nintendo's third party situation has changed
