ThisGenGaming says "Footage we captured today shows the major difference between The Last Of Us Remastered Version 1.08 and 1.09's shadow quality."
amazing support for an amazing game, but we want more news about TLOU2!!!!
Gotta wait 3 more months😭😭
E3 is only 3 months away?
Gotta Wait 3 is probably to most popular game lately.
@inveni3 Yeah but that's a xbox exclusive ;b
So sad this is the hottest article on the website right now. Lets compare shadows! So boring and if this pic wasn't here no one would have even noticed. Can't wait for this to be beaten out by "Watching grass grow, the video game!"
You continue to live up to your name sir...'Make gaming great again!'
There isn't even a difference. They are trying to give off the illusion by having Joels light on in the second pic while it is off in the first pic
Cool, very noticeable improvement.
No difference/. They are trying to give off the illusion by having Joels light on in the second pic while it is off in the first pic
I must be missing something. The only difference between the two pics is that Joel's flashlight is off in the 1.08 pic and in the 1.09 pic, it's on, creating the shadows. Shouldn't it be on in both to show the differences?
exactly, i dont see a difference other then that yet the people above see something vastly different . well its sony so of coarse they will
Wow how much did you pay for that pound of butt salt?
Good catch. I thought the differences were just too extreme. That said still nice to see them pushing out patches.
Maybe the patch fixed the flashlight?
where is the difference
how can you not see it!!!!! the mesh pattern, the actual light is shing through the grill rather than just a light on the wall,
Yes but theres a serious screw up.. Joel doesn't have his flashlight on in the first pic he does however in the second pic which could mean the grill only had a shadow because Joel has his light on.
No difference at all. Look harder and you will see its staged. They are trying to give off the illusion by having Joels light on in the second pic while it is off in the first pic
Damn I wish I owned the PlayStation 4 Pro.
I hope you can trade your ps4 for the pro I did that and it's such an amazing system
I might do the same, I want to save my money for games though, maybe next year before God Of War comes out or something .
I can't push myself to trade in my PS4 MGSV edition :( I just need to save up for one.
I don't really see me trading my PlayStation 4 as much as simply just buying a pro next year and keeping both systems. @Mat-I wouldn't trade that in either
@Edmix Can you please trade it in?
I'd trade in your vanilla PS4 for it. Like Gamer4lifz stated, you can just trade, not sure what the difference would be though. Might depend on if you have a 4K tv though, but I read that you get features and improvement even without a 4K tv.
Game wise, it'll depend on the game itself. Some have quite notable differences in graphics or occasionally performance, while other games, it can often be hard to tell the difference. On a system level, I think games install and load faster overall. Other than that, I think the only feature I know of that benefits on the system is something to do with game streaming....as in it's better on the PS4P. Everything else seems to run about the same between the two systems. Generally, the improvements on 1080 TV's is through performance boosts or more stable performance. Often times there is a choice for resolution or performance for those with 4K TV's, but again, it's always different between games based on what the dev wants to offer. Personally, I brought my PS4P on impulse. If I had made a more conscious purchase, I probably would have traded it in, or sold it. In the end, I gave my regular PS4 to my dad, after a short stint of having it hooked up to the TV in the bedroom. My dad uses it as a media server because he's been getting into that kind of stuff lately.
I traded my PS4 for a Pro. Well worth it. For me it's amazing with Horizon Zero Dawn, Battlefield & PSVR😉
I'll probably end up giving my PlayStation 4 to my sister and just upgrading to a pro as I'm not sure I'll be selling any of my Playstation 4s. If anything I'll probably use the extra money for games this year or to possibly even buy a switch so I don't really see me buying a PlayStation 4 Pro until maybe later next year.
A lazy Saturday like today would be the perfect time to play the last of us again. One of my favorite games ever. Glad to see it still being supported
Man.. I still play the multiplayer till this day. Can't wait for the sequel.
Old game, but very nice...
Joel has his flashligh lit on the "1.09" patch... maybe... just maybe... that's why there's an extra shadow showed.
Is it possible that the difference is that with the new patch things like Joels light ARE on due to the update where as before things like his light were off due to performance issues? I mean, clearly the difference isn't the added shadow and lighting from Ellie's light like it first seems but maybe Joel's light being on is the difference? I don't know...Can't tell if the article/pictures are being deceptive or we're perceiving them incorrectly.
You could turn on or off the flashlight in the game. Outside of some scenes where it was turned on by the dev because it was really dark. Worked the same way in Uncharted. It'll stay on for the quick transition scenes that are rendered in real time, but may turn itself off in cut-scenes.
would've been so much easier to see if joels flashlight wasn't on in 1.09 patch
This patch has removed the higher quality shadow options for regular PS4 owners. Prior to 1.09, switching the game to 30fps would result in a higher shadow setting being enabled on the base PS4. Now switching the framerate cap doesn't change anything aside from the framerate. Essentially they're just taking away features from regular PS4 owners and making the options more transparent for the people that upgraded.
A sublte, minor difference that if you were playing the game, you'd miss. Nice try, though.
Said every single person in gaming society silently to themselves about mid-gen upgrades......and yet here we are
LOL. most of the differences you're going to see in games with the mid-gens is going to be those subtle differences you probably would miss if you weren't looking for them. Guess we don't really need the mid-gens huh?
Wow, the flashlight is shining through the grill, thus casting a shadow! Superb! Amazing! Such beauty! Okay, let's be serious here. It's more realistic, yes, but a "major difference"? Um...seriously? A tiny detail as this is considered 'major'? This community....
This is what the tech savvy looks & live for, knowing most folks wouldn't even notice or give 2 damns about.
I understand that. I appreciate attention-to-detail too. My point was, the headline of this article is a textbook example of sensationalism. On top of that, some of the comments here are WAY too enthusiastic. Not saying that this isn't neat. It's just so tiny and forgettable, yet look at how popular the article is here on N4G. I just find it very weird.
Meshed shadows may not be a big perceptual "major difference", but it actually is quite a big deal on the rendering side.
Lmaooooo! Look at how they rave over the smallest things. Omg omg omg do y'all see the shadow it casts!?!? GOTY 2017!!!
The support is great, but generally these types of patches are testing development techniques for new games, or they are applying new techniques they learned while developing on a new project. Pushing these updates out to fans is awesome.
