Super Mario 64 Online is a fan project that has been a long time in development, and one that has finally gotten an official release. However, as with every other fan project, Nintendo tried to take it down as quickly as possible.
Were it Sega: "hey guys, we loved your Sonic Adventure Online project! Why don't you officially develop it for us?"
Sega isn't necessarily innocent either. It's awesome that they've allowed fans to interact with the Sonic series, but they've cancelled quite a few fan projects back in their day. Such as the Streets of Rage fan project. Luckily, the download itself can't be pulled by Nintendo though.
I mean even Konami is one of the biggest assholes in the gaming business and they let Mig create 2 Castlevania fan-made games. One of which is one of the best games to come out in this year
Sega does what Nintendon't
Nintendo hates fan projects? News to me
They been doing for years.
Good guy Nintendo
People who come on here and think for a moment Nintendo should stop taking down fan projects your wrong and your dead wrong. For one it's using someone's ip (intellectual property). These people work on these games for years I'm sure are smart enough to know Nintendo is going to stop it quick. These people are obviously smart how can they not be smart enough to not know this will happen.
This is what I would do if I had the skills to make fan remakes. Make the full game with a trailer, do not say anything about it until it is 100% done. Then upload all your work to as many torrent sites as you can. After it's in the wild it's to late to do anything about it. I really do not understand all these modders/coders, they know Nintendo or whatever company might shut it down so they should not post anything anywhere until it's done. There would be so many fan remakes to play in this way. Or if they are really good use this https://thehiddenwiki.org/ and Tor and you can have a full web page with all your work and it will never be taken down.
Maybe they do that already, but put up videos on the normal web to get attention.
Servers will be shut dwn and game will be pulled. Just like the POKEMON game for PC
I love the creativity and dedication Nintendo fans have, and absolutely respect that. However, given Nintendo history of armed lawyers with an almost cult-like view on destroying every fan made project in existence. Why bother? Why put hundred, if not thousands of hours into a project, just so Nintendo can smash it into the dirt?
This is the kind of Youtube take downs people should be angry about, not something like the Pewdiepie situation where the guy brought it on himself It's a fan project and if it wasn't for fan things we wouldn't have gotten Sonic Mania and I doubt Capcom would be arsed about a Resident Evil 2 Remake.
