Not yet six months since Nintendo discontinued it, the company is bringing back the NES Classic Edition next year. This is both bizarre and totally reasonable on Nintendo’s part — the hardware sold like hotcakes, even if the company claimed surprise at its popularity.
But why would Nintendo announce this now? Why bring it back at all, if the company was comfortable with the system being a limited-time product? Here are some ideas ... with the caveat that Nintendo never seems to make decisions based on any kind of observable logic.
As an iconic handheld device, the Game Boy Color was packed with fantastic platformer games that covered numerous sub-genres while providing a genuine experience.
From the Supervision to the Steam Deck, the vast history of handheld console gaming is always worth celebrating.
A modded PSP is awesome, I used to play games like the original Marvel vs Capcom and even the original Doom on it.
Other nominees include games like SimCity & Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
There are some good nominees in this list that are deserving to be inducted also, but I feel Metroid has had the most impact on the industry out of all of these. Look how Metroid influenced the evolution of the Castlevania games, and the "Metroidvania" subgenre of games have become a prevailing force in gaming today. Especially now, Metroidvanias are bigger than ever.
I can very much see Resident Evil being added later too, bc it really did popularize and define the survival horror genre. I would say that one is next in line.
If any Metroid game should get the honor it should be Super Metroid , it's perfection in my eyes . 30 years later and I still feel it's the most epic shit ever .
The GBA remake deserves it or Super Metroid, the original was a very sloppy and rushed game programmed in 3 months and it shows.
If you've never played the remake, it's absolutely a must play, fixes basically every flaw in the game. Check out ExoParadigmGamer's comparison video.

Because people saw the 'supply issues' for the the publicity stunt that it was and it pissed them off now they're just backpedaling and producing this thing like they should have from day 1.
They probably got an ear full from their fans and actually listened for once.
Why is a popular product that a lot of people wanted but few people could get going to be manufactured again? Why does Polygon write articles that clearly don't understand how the world works?
Nintendo did say it was a limited time product... after it had never said that for months and promised to sell even more of them. Le sigh.
