However, both versions will have resolutions above 1080p with an improved frame rate as per Mercury Steam.
Im glad they are aiming for 60fps lock at 1080p or 1440p instead of 4K at 30fps!
Finally someone spoke with ultimate reasonable target, 2k with 60fps is far better than 4k with 30fps not even locked is some cases. This mid gen console jump from 1080p to 2160p is awkward and weird. Why not targeting more physics effects and higher texture setting for 1080p 60fp? I think sony and ms want to support 4K TVs and Screens market and push it as they pushed FHD market.
No it isn't better. That is just your opinion. I prefer 4k/30. Does that make it better..no! That is just my opinion.
From Sony I understand their push for 4K and that is Sony sells 4K tvs. But in all Sony and Microsoft decided to play it safe and released a 2010 mid range gaming PC. Both console manufacturers could of easily released the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X at the beginning of this generation but greed and the ability to sell a console at a profit not loss was too much for these console manufacturers to pass on.
@InKnight7s: "Why not targeting more physics effects and higher texture setting for 1080p 60fp?" Because marketing. These aren't even truly 4K systems...they can get there but they are desperately gasping for air when they do. People don't appreciate how much power 4K takes vs. 1080p or 2K. It's silly...too many devs are sacrificing quality in order to hit goals set by console marketing departments.
@agent4532: "But in all Sony and Microsoft decided to play it safe and released a 2010 mid range gaming PC." I agree these consoles aren't true 4K hardware, but this statement is wrong. The One X in particular is absolutely the equivalent of a current mid-range gaming PC, if we agree that a mid-range gaming PC would have a GTX 1060 or RX 480, which we should, as those are the most popular GPUs right now and that's roughly what the One X has.
Most of the Xs games are targeting those increased effects. It's a handful that don't while majority do.
@letsa_go Horizon Zero dawns backs up everything you just said. I can't go back to 1080p on horizon when I can play 4k hdr @30fps. It is just tooooooo beautiful!
It's the smarter trade off for sure. 4K vs. 2K is hard to notice in the real world, if people would actually take the time to compare. About the only exception is live content shot with a 4K camera. 60fps vs. 30fps is WAY more obvious for the average person.
I mean... not all devs are made equally. Some devs are just more talented then others. Nothing to be upset about. Hopefully they can do great work and ship a good product regardless.
Some devs are also working with smaller budgets. 4K is in its infancy on consoles so not every developer is ready yet to go UHD
That is one broke planet if it cant even do chequer board
No every developer is a master of their craft.
But are they masters of their domain?
Not sure if you meant to imply that if your not about to hit 4k then your not a master of your craft. But it does say something for what people expect from a good Developer.
Indie games should maybe stick with the Switch. I only buy AAA physical copy games for my Pro and XOX.
Well that's a foolish comment, unless you aren't being serious.
just ignore him
Just saying that it would be easier for them if they don't know how to take advantage of such powerful hardware
@Pantz having more power does not make it easier to make a game run at 60fps. It does not make it easier to make a game run 1080+ It actually makes it HARDER.
All this media hype just makes me want to go full time PC or ignore the rest of this generation til we get decent consoles from the start, where frame rate isn't ignored for tricks and backflips to hit 4k.
While you did that, I'll enjoy playing fun games.
Framerate will more often than not take a back seat to graphical fidelity on consoles no matter how powerful they are. I realised this when I read the reasons as to why Insomniac made the decision of making their games run at 30 fps instead of 60 fps. http://www.insomniacgames.c...
Thanks for that link. I must have missed that years ago, and I can't believe that came from Insomniac. The fact that they specifically mentioned sales and 'best looking' at the forefront of their argument is really disheartening,
Do it then, you won't regret it. I did the same and i'm so far not regretting it one bit. Once you make the switch i doubt you will want to go back though, especially when so many more games are coming out on PC now and not being exclusive to consoles. I'm sick of all of these console fanboy wars and companies like Microsoft and Sony being so vague when asked questions. Another thing i have grown tired of is when people from these companies say console exclusive / timed exclusive / console timed exclusive.....just shut the hell up already, it's so damn boring. Also, games consoles aren't even much like games consoles anymore, more like mini PC's. Game installs, constant updates, the constant push for 60fps and high resolution. Console gamers never used to care much about these things, it was an afterthought. If they want these things then they would be better off moving to PC's. The PS2 days was the last great console generation in my opinion, since the end of that gen you may as well have just go a PC.
Tbh, are people really that fussed over checker board, true 4k and upscaled 1440/1800p? A lot of 4k Tvs out there do a great job with upscaling. I've not played a lot of true 4k content, and played some games which are upscaled or played at 1440p (UC4 etc), that they look great as they are. True, I'd love a solid native 4k/30fps (would prefer 60fps) experiences, but so far I've been happy with the quality in solid frames, and the games that use HDR.
lol have you not been paying attention to people on this site...?
So 1440p/60fps then? Don't see the problem with that, myself.
While this is too bad, let's hope this is just a one-off case and does not become the norm for future games on the ONE X.
Realy?!?! I get down voted for saying what everyone is thinking? FFS!
All logical sense is lost on N4G. Don't take it too hard.
Come on, 4K should be achievable on the Pro and one x for this game
For what the developer Mercury Steam is able to achieve with the available hardware, (max 1440p @ 60fps) I'm glad this is where they are focusing their efforts. Not even 4K "checkerboarding," somebody get this dev some help! Oh well at least we may end up with a solid running game.
Even though i have zero intentions of getting the xb1x, this shouldve been handled a lot better for it.. Oh well.. Just as i expected.. Unless paid, im sure devs wont put in extra effort to bring out the strength of the console..
Meanwhile on my new gaming pc I will be enjoying it at max detail 4k 60fps+
enjoy guys :) . .
I guess if you want native 4K/60 frames per second, the PC is the way to go. If it does come with mod support for PC then the PC version would be the superior version
why not the X the almighty powerful console to own with the most power huhhhh??????
Good thing I've never heard of the game before so I don't have to worry about it.
I've been in the closed beta for months and its an ok game. Not gonna lie though kinda reminds me of Battleborn. Game looks pretty decent already on vanilla consoles so I'm sure it will look great on the x and pro. I just love games and don't care to argue with people I probably have a lot in common with
Well, it's sure good to see that Microsoft is ushering in True 1080P games for their Xbox users because they deserve better than they have gotten. Well done Microsoft, well done.
Good, aim for 60fps instead of 4k, other devs should take note.
That's good. Hope other devs follow. This 4K craze is already tiresome.
Some companies will want their games to play pretty much the same over all consoles. That's there prerogative I'm sure it will be good no matter what..
I remember when most gamers didn't know what the resolution was on any TV...even before HD came out. No one cared. It was about the games wayyy before anything such as resolution became a driving factor on what makes a good game. Far too many gamers today make a bigger deal than is needed over how many pixels are on screen.
nothing here, developer choice whether their game runs native 4k/checkerboard/1080p on xbox one x/PS4 Pro. Nothing to do with the hardware available
I prefer the book by the fire. Console games struggle due to cpu. Driveclub was 1080p 30fps capped. I spoke to the dev and he said the problem was cpu, unlocked frame rate was 45-50fps. Consider that driveclub had a complete weather system with accurate lighting model and huge Vista's.
Forza 7 doesnt look like it struggles with the xbox on x cpu? 4k native, 60fps and weather
But Jaguar is a crap CPU on all consoles. How about PCARS 2, a game that have more cars on screen, full dynamic weather and TOD ( unlike F7 which will have it on selected tracks ), 60 fps and it won't be 4k native on XboneX. It looks like PCARS 2 doesn't struggle with Jaguar CPU. Oh wait...
Your missing the news lad. It is running 4K Native on the xbox one X at 60 fps using around 60/70 percent of resources http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... from the article "To get that level of fidelity at native 4K is hugely gratifying from a visual perspective." research before you post sunshine, you end up looking silly
LOL! What news? I'd never said that F7 won't be 4k native on XboneX, Xbone fan! Your example to show how some game won't struggle with XboneX CPU is goddamn lame, Xbone fan! Forza! LOL PCARS 2 will be a bigger game as i have given an example. How about Ass Creed Origins? Much bigger game than both. Game won't be 4k native on XboneX. Yeah, i don't see a struggles with the CPU. Oh wait... Jaguar CPU is crap. Btw. you probably missed Digital Foundry info about Forza 7 from Gamescom on GAF, from John Linneman actually. Your article is old.
Doesn't change the fact that forza 7 will be native 4K on the Xbox one x. Try harder to troll
Doesn't change a fact that your F7 example to show how some game won't struggle with XboneX CPU is goddamn lame. So glad that you swallowed MS PR. And fact is Jag CPU is crap on all consoles. If i am a troll, WTF are you? LOL at link. Of course PCARS 2 would look better OBVIOUSLY and OBVIOUSLY on stronger console which will be out a year after PS4 Pro launch. You're so cool, man.
if you dont think the dev is trying hard enough with particular hardware, dont buy their product... simple...
Just Googled this game, it actually looks pretty cool
What a waste xbonex is if it can't play all multiplatform at true 4k!!!! FACT!
I don't see what the big deal is, i thought most people here wanted higher frame rate over 30fps? If the devs say they are aiming for 60fps here that is a good thing, they said if they used went for 4k native or checkerboard the fps will have be 30fps. Due to fast paced nature 60fps locked or unlocked would be the better fit imo!
Nooooooooo what will we do with our lives. this cant be. Someone please help us. this is horrible, you mean i have to play in 1080p what will i do.
Gonna say it again: expecting everything to run at non-checkerboarded 4K on even the One X is unreasonable. On PC, you really need at GTX 1080 ($550-$600) or AMD RX Vega64 ($650-$700) to do 4K well, and a GTX 1070 ($500) or equivalent to even have a shot. The GPU in the One X is basically the requivalent a GTX 1060 or RX 580, just with more VRAM. Those GPUs are not considered viable 4K cards for PC...like, they can DO it, but stuff needs to be cranked down and it's gonna choke from time to time. They can however crush 1080p out of the park at OMG fps and do 1440p pretty well. Yes, the One X (and the Pro for that matter) has a more efficient system architecture than PC for graphics, but we're only talking a few FPS benefit. It's not going to make a $250 GPU perform like a $600 one. Long story short, the whole "real non-checkerboarded 4K" thing for the One X is hype. It's not powerful enough to do that for most games. For it to do it consistently and *well*, you're looking at a $700-$900 piece of hardware. I'm not even sure why people care so much, frankly. IMO anything beyond 2K is overkill unless you have a really damn big TV and sit really close to it. But check back in a couple of years for a reasonably-priced console that can do 4K without compromise.
The game doesn't appear that intensive, probably more to do with the engine and developer than the hardware.
