In his book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, Jason Schreier devotes a chapter to the famously cancelled Star Wars game, Star Wars 1313. Now, one of the designers of the game has spoken out regarding the games cancellation, and how it affected his own life.
I wanted this game so bad
That game looked amazing
This is one of those cancelled games that you really have to feel bad about. A lot of games are cancelled because they development is a mess or the product just isn't up to par . . . But this was cancelled simply because Disney bought out Lucas Arts and that closed down the entire game division. This and the Darth Maul Star Wars game both looked like some of the best Star Wars games to date and they both got cancelled simply due to a buyout. It wasn't even that the studio was bleeding money or anything like that.
I was with you until you mentioned Darth Maul. What a terrible character. Face painted kung foo clown with stick on horns?... Not cool Lucas. I'm glad he can't ruin Star Wars anymore.
@The_Sage, I mean, I can see where someone might not like the character. However there was a pretty sweet looking Darth Maul game by the team who made Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 on Wii. The Wii version of the game was pretty dang fantastic outside of the story and length, which were really outside of the studio's control. The same team started working on a Darth Maul game that basically took the Wii version of Force Unleashed 2 and turned it into a AAA multiplatform game. It looked pretty sweet.
Yeah... I did like the Force Unleashed games.... I just never could take Darth Maul seriously. I was at the midnight showing when Episode1 came out and when Darth Maul came on screen all I could see was a guy Halloween face paint on with little horns glued to his head. Between him, the terrible kid playing Anikin, and freaking Jar Jar I was more than disappointed when I walked out of the theater.
makes me sad every time I watch the reveal trailer.
Somewhere in the galaxy a lone storm trooper is pouring a 40 on a curb just shaking his head.
And somewhere in a Galaxy far, far away there is a Boy crying while staring at two suns on a desert planet.
Not right now though. That little boy was crying while staring at two suns a long time ago.
I didn't know this game was cancelled :(
Yeah, once we heard that LucastArts was being shut down after the Disney acquisition, we knew the chances for this game dwindled really fast.
Is this the one Amy Hening was working on?
Nope. 1313 was being created by LucasArts until Disney cancelled it in 2013. Hening left ND in 2014 to join Visceral Games, who started work on an as yet untitled Star Wars game for EA.
