With news of Rockstar's L.A. Noire releasing on Nintendo's newest platform in November, could the publisher be willing to make the next Grand Theft Auto game on the system too?
I doubt it
Highly doubt it I don't want the next GTA being held back for anything
It wouldn't be.
LOL You're telling me the Switch wouldn't hold back GTAVI? Yeah...sure.
RDR2 will come out in 2018, 5 years after GTA V first released... by the time GTA VI comes out it will be 2022/2023 using the latest technology of that era, I don't think base PS4/XB1 would be able to handle that let alone the inferior Switch.
So that means it shouldn't come out for the base PS4 and Xbox one since those versions will hold back the PS4 pro, Xbox one X, and PC version. Anyway i don't believe it will come to the Switch since the Switch is not powerful enough.
Mid gen consoles are completely different to the Switch. You wouldn't make GTAVI an exclusive to those consoles as there would be hell on. Don't twist this. You've got more of a chance to get GTA4 or Red Dead Redemption then GTAVI...hell even a re release of Bully or something. GTAVI will also be including the next version of GTA Online....do you honestly think the Switch can handle GTA Online when they can't even do a proper online now? Good grief.
I acknowledge that it wasn't powerful enough to run GTA 6. Your argument was that it would have held the other versions back when it wouldn't. If GTA 6 some how came to the Switch and was worse on Switch how would that effect or hold back the other versions that come out on other platforms?
GTA is a console game that's ported to pc, so that is irrelevant. Plus, technically yes consoles do hold back pc. When pc had specs higher than ps4 years before it couldn't present alot of games a ps4 levels graphics (higher res tho) but because most games were ports to pc.
Pc holds itself back too. Minimum specs is what holds it back. Needing to run at a under leveled strength
They would likely have to scale back the scope of the game to accomodate the Switch. Downgrades can only do so much.
@Teflon Consoles are not holding PC back. When you consider that current consoles are about as powerful as the average PC on Steam, you can reasonably conclude that the only thing holding back games is consumer thriftiness. If consoles were to disappear tomorrow, all current console owners wouldn't go out and buy a $1500 gaming PC, they'd likely buy a PC equivalent to what their console was. Console price points aren't arbitrary. They strike a balance between performance and cost.
I mean it's held back when it's released on ps4/Xbox when it gets ported to PC.In fact when gta 5 was released on 360/ps3 it was tottaly held back. I would imagine the next gta and this upcoming read dead are cutting graphical and cpu intensive features out of the game because ps4/Xbox can't handle them Widen your perspective
Keep deluding yourself that the Switch can handle it. These comments are hilarious. Just go back and play on GTAV for the Switch....oh....wait
Consoles are better than 95% of PCs owned by Steam users. Consoles aren't holding PCs back.
Except none of us are deluding ourselves as we know GTA 6 is not coming to the Switch. You Sony clowns are just letting your fears of a gta game selling more on a console that's not named PlayStation get to you. Cause let's if it did come to the Switch it would sell like hot cakes
@straight Lol wow dude really, some of ya fanboy slipped out a bit there. The demographic that the switch is targeted at is not the same as the one GTA is trying to appeal to. Not only that but logically speaking do you honestly think 60 million+ consoles wouldn't sell more copies of a game like GTA than a competitor with say what a couple mil. You sound like the clown.
"In fact when gta 5 was released on 360/ps3 it was tottaly held back." What are you smoking Erik?? GTAV was a technical marvel running on PS3/360. R* pulled off an incredible job with those consoles. If they held back anything it surely didn't show as the game looked freaking amazing and ran absolutely perfect. It's a 4 year old game now and it's still one of the best looking open worlds, heavily populated, with 100's of unique missions/random events/activities and ran buttery smooth. If anyone needs to widen their perspective it's you.
Lmao no. They would dumb it down for the switch yes, but it wouldn't hold shit back. The pro and x versions are going to look incredible regardless of what else it is on.
Said from the guy who doesn't know shit about game development.
Says the guy who did a years games development at Uni... Well would you look at that...guess you didn't know that did you.
"Keep deluding yourself that the Switch can handle it. Yet you are still wrong.
Then it should only come to PC which it's actually not a bad idea!
Its not like they would force the same dude to make twice as many art assets, they would pay someone else to make lower poly/res versions, or they could just use the LOD models. The online mode would suffer from Switch's horrible online system, but i don't see why they couldn't make crappy single player only cash grab game, theres millions of fools with Switches already.
the consoles are going to hold this game back anyway
If R* used UE4 it wouldn't since they could use the needed settings each system.
I doubt it. Switch is the new handheld and that's it. It's an excellent handheld, best ever in fact. What's crazy is we haven't even had a new GTA yet this gen.
I have a feeling we won't get a new GTA this gen, unless it releases 2 months before the PS5.
Probably will, then they can get people to double dip with the PS5 port.
its a handheld and tv console get it strait
Nintendo's marketing aside, it's essentially a handheld that you can play on your TV, just like you can with the Vita.
Sorry but all the hardware is in the handheld. The dock is a hollow piece of plastic that connects it to TV. Now of the dock was full of tech I'd agree with you. You can play Switch 100% of the time on handheld mode, the dock is optional, the tablet is essential.
If they make a cell phone or tablet version.. Then ..maybe 😂
Haha tbh the switch is a powerful console in its own right but compared to the current gen home consoles it not. I also think if and it's a big if the switch sells very well and the mature gores come to it and sell well we could see a switch version of gta but I really don't think we will. For me I'm not fussed I'm not a gta fan but I know millions are.
Only if they're smart enough to use an engine the Switch can already handle, like Unreal 4. Otherwise, my bet is on no. Even more so if they're gauging the possibility based off of how L.A.noire is going to sell, which I'm not confident will sell well.
even if they chose to go with unreal, it doesnt mean the switch can handle it. Wheres Tomb Raider on the Switch?
Loaded questions don't as good evidence, so keep that crap unspoken; Tomb Raider not being there doesn't mean jack towards whether or not the Switch can handle it. It's already been CONFIRMED that the Switch can handle the newest version of Unreal 4, so if the producers WANTED to put Tomb Raider on there using Unreal, THEY COULD, same goes for a new GTA using the engine.
But again that is just the engine. Lots of games use unreal ENGINE. From AAA games to indie phone games. Just because the system can handle the engine used for Tomb Raider does not mean it can run Tomb raider. Just like if GTA used it it probably wouldn't be able to handle it.
If it was I would actually buy it on that. As great as NBA 2K18 looks great on PS4 but I'm getting the switch version.
I don't think so. Even this were to happen, I can see it being downgraded to oblivion. So I can't see Rockstar being willingly to do that much work when they can just sell it just fine on other platforms. Obviously things could always change, especially if the Switch keep selling and have more fanbase. They wouldn't ignore it if it has a large fanbase, just like when they release GTA Chinatown War on the DS. I would gladly welcome another orginal GTA title like that.
I agree. Honestly, it's more likely they try an original GTA for Switch, or a GTA5 port, than GTA6. But the likeliest scenario, based on past history, is that Switch doesn't get any GTA game at all.
"downgraded to oblivion" is such a massive overstatement; have you not seen how good the sports ports look on it, even undocked? That's not enough of a downgrade for anyone to rightfully bash it over; I doubt it would be any different with a new GTA if they used an engine that the Switch can handle, like Unreal 4. The only real issue is, as you pointed out, the fanbase. It doesn't exist on Switch yet, and Rockstar would have an uphill battle trying to make the existing fanbase on other consoles care for the Nintendo version, after decades of third parties just like them doing their best to ignore Nintendo, and convincing their fans to do so in the process. They'd have to do a new entry of the IP for all consoles including the Switch, and make all versions content-complete, to have a chance of making Switch owners happy enough for their IP to start spreading its wings on Switch in a big way. As of right now, I can't see anyone who has been a fan of the series since day 1 going over to Switch for the newest version, even if the Nintendo version somehow had better graphics, because that's not where the fanbase has invested their love of the series. To be blunt, console bias plays a bigger role than love of the series does, which is probably why they've never bothered putting it on a Nintendo home console in the first place. That will probably insult some people here, but it's the truth, so I don't care. Even people who have multiple consoles, are going to have certain IP's that they'd prefer to never play on any console other than the one they first picked it up on. We see it all the time, but no one ever calls them out on it because it always starts fights.
Maybe it can handle San Andreas stories or GTA 4.
It can pretty much handle GTA 5, but the battery life would have lasted maybe 2 hours at best. I still hope, however, that GTA V will make its way to the Switch. GTA online on the go, espcially with the PUBG-style mode, would be freaking awesome.
It can easily have handle GTAV Van or any last gen game for that matter. It can run things the last gen can't not the other way round.
Way to underestimate the Switch. It can easily handle GTAV, dude. That came out on last gen systems, and Switch is much more capable than those.
The Switch can definitely run GTAV what being way better than ps3 or 360 and all. Why wouldn't it be able to? Pretty sure Skyrim is coming and it looks a lot better than last gen versions. Salty haters keep on hating.
To all the disagrees: you are acting as if GTAV is a current gen game. It isn't. It was released originally on Xbox 360 and PS3. Wii U, generally speaking, was more capable than these two consoles, and Switch is more capable than Wii U. Lol.
I think Rockstar is testing the waters with LA Noire see how it sells on Switch. If it sells well then maybe it will maybe they will even port RDR2 to it.
Y tho. You mean RDR1.
Maybe a watered down spinoff title, but not a GTA6.
Yeah as soon as Red Dead goes to PC
Doubt it.. 5 might end up on it though
they should i amd million others would buy it for switch
As it happens, I was thinking a similar thing http://n4g.com/news/2098963...
I dont want a dumbed down GTA VI. please just accept that the switch cannot produce graphics on par with ps4 and xbox one. people overestimate what switch can do. its a downclocked tegra x1 graphics chip!!. Well if rockstar is going through all the trouble downgrading a game to fit it on the switch then fine. I cant believe people are so delusional especially nintendo fanboys.
I don`t see why not i have Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on my phone and it runs fine.
Both those games are 10+ years old...
Not a chance. If they're pushing the consoles to their limits again with GTA 6 like they did with 5, I doubt the Switch will be able to cope with the demands.
Come back when red dead 2 comes to switch.
No. Each main iteration of GTA is focused on pushing further than their previous games, now if the Switch can run the PS4/Xbone versions of GTAV with wiggle room, maybe it'd be a possibility they could get a GTAVI running on it, but I don't see it as a likely scenario.
No, but I would love the original red dead redemption on switch.
Probably not. Giant complex open worlds are probably one of the more difficult types of games to shoehorn onto crappy hardware.
I want Vice City on Switch!
What would lead anyone to make that assumption? Because they are porting a 7 year old game to the system?
lol no. Not only could it not run it in any respectable form, i really couldn’t see Nintendo slinging a game that encourages drinking, getting high, stealing cars, arms deals, violence and gangs.... all the stuff that makes it fun. They’d end up making it look cartoony and instead of a mobile command center equipped with a 50 cal gun you’d have a mobile bakery that shoots turtle shells and cookies.
Nintendo hasn't done that crap since the original Mortal Kombat for SNES. That was 24 years ago. Get with the times, son.
@VenomSnakeRisingX http://www.nintendoworldrep... "Miyamoto has looked at GTA, and he thinks the overall concept, especially the freedom you have in the city, is very well done. He thinks that it is selling well because of the gameplay, and not the graphics. In fact, he seems happy that a game with not so great graphics, as he puts it (and I agree), is selling so well in a time where everyone seems to care about what is supposedly cutting edge. When asked about moral issues of GTA, he says that people shouldn't make games just to piss off people like parents, but at the same time games like GTA shouldn't be considered bad just because a few people don't like it. When asked about him working on adult-oriented games, he says he is interested in working with other people on adult games (like he did with Eternal Darkness and is doing with MGS: The Twin Snakes), but at the same time there is still a lot of things that can be done in the for all ages department." Nintendo doesn't need to make hardcore games themselves. Fact is, they would probably suck at that, because it's not their area of expertise; they excel at games that are friendly for all ages. On the other hand, Nint
