Screen Critics Shaun explores the backlash to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - exploring the aspects of the game that made his adventure memorable.
Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."
I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.
but still considered the best of the seties.
i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.
25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.
Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.
The best prices we've found this Black Friday for Zelda Tears of the Kingdom as well as the previous game, Breath of the Wild.
The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has again commented on the possibility of revisiting the style of past entries in the series – but there are no plans as of now. Speaking with RTL Nieuws, Aonuma said that games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were possible because of what came before them.
Which is very sad. I still wish we could get a zelda like twilight princess, the dark tone and theme in the traditional style. But times have changed and the masses prefer open world sandbox. Smh. Perhaps we can get a proper hd remake of ocarina of time some day.
If they can bounce between 2D and 3D Mario games, they can bounce between classic and modern Zelda games too. I thought this was a given when the Switch combined a handheld with a primary console.
Then this is where I part ways. I won't disagree with anyone who says that the old formula was getting stale. And I do think BoTW in a few ways was a step in the right direction, but there's way too much good that was left with the old formula in the transition.
Well that sucks. I still love the classic formula WAY more than the Hyrule Engineering Simulator
This game needs defending?
huh? BOTW is an excellent game. i've not played it personally, watched quite a bit though (don't have a switch). i could tell that it's a crazy awesome game. basically feels so much like the original zelda... i couldn't believe it was possible
It was incredible but i wouldn't claim it as the best one like many people have. In my opinion it's a game of preference. For me personally the exploring at times felt a little to much and with so much empty open space felt kind of useless. In that exploring there were rewards but you soon realized the rewards weren't worth all the time you put in. I always felt a trophy system would of helped me push for more and I'm Not a trophy guy but man this game was absolutely perfect for Ninty to Introduce a trophy system. Like I said it's all preference, the leap from the original story driven linear format took a huge back seat and was a completely different game which at first I was hooked but started to eventually miss the old way. I still believe WindWaker is still top because of the mix of exploration and story driven aspect they made blend so well still holds up today.
Just finished the game today. What a great adventure. I know I didn't see everything. But I really like that the game let me take on Ganon when I felt ready - not when the game decided it was time. Some of the best 90 hours I've ever had in gaming. And my favorite zelda. Happy gaming out there!
Nobody needs to defend this game. My personal favorite game of all time, and inarguably in the top 10 for any gamer. Provided you weren't on your HZD vs BotW bs....
