Xbox One Sales Top an Estimated 30 Million Units Worldwide

Microsoft's eighth generation home console, the Xbox One, has surpassed 30 million units sold worldwide, according to VGChartz estimates.

The Xbox One reached the milestone for the week ending June 10, 2017. The console sold 92,014 units to bring its lifetime sales to 30,075,137 units. There have also been 194,218,035 games sold for the Xbox One at retail.

With how low Xbox One sales have been all year, I find this hard to believe. I think it will be at 30 million soon but not yet

AngelicIceDiamond89d ago

I can see that, its a very realistic and reasonable number.

S2Killinit89d ago

Vg does tend to overestimate xbox numbers historically. But i though 30 mill is reasonable. Although they have been selling slower than ever before.

septemberindecember89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

@S2Killinit

How would you know VGChartz has a tendency to overestimate Xbox numbers? Unless you knew exactly what these real sold numbers were it would be very hard to tell whether VGChartz was overestimating or underestimating.

In fact, there seems to be evidence of the inverse. There was a leak back in June by Microsoft France who accidentally put on the product page that the console sold 36.2 million units.

dantesparda89d ago

VGChartz? Really? Come MS, give us some actual numbers already. Are you that ashamed of them?

ThanatosDMC89d ago

Doubt it's 30M especially with people jumping ship and MS begging for other platforms to share in their multiplayer like a spoiled child who didnt get their candy. Xbox live has a drought in player base.

Aenea89d ago

@september

That was not a leak by MS France...

It was a fanmade webpage that is being hosted by MS, nothing more, nothing less...

SolidStateSnake89d ago

September

Because npd numbers or official numbers from ms/sony used differ from the numbers VG charts posted. And they never bothered to change it.

bouzebbal89d ago

vgchartz?
must be shipped then.
no idea why MS doesn't communicate the exact numbers. It is so unprofessional.
yet fanboys love them.

septemberindecember89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

@aenea

I don't know where you are getting your information, but it's false. It was something sent out by Microsoft France that gave a brief history of Xbox consoles, and include current sales numbers of those consoles as well. It wasn't fan made, but it was sent to fans.

I implore you to do a bit more research before claiming Im wrong next time. We dont want to spread false information.

Aenea89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

@september

And I don't know where you are getting your info since it's incorrect. House of Fans is a fan-run website and the French one is known to talking crap about PS4 and posting false info all the time.

It's not official information! In fact, the number 36.2 million was taken straight from Wikipedia France! The source for Wikipedia is VGChartz! Since VGChartz changed their numbers, the Wiki page now also changed them back...

Go read this:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

There you can see that the House of Fans site also showed an image of MS their finances, an image which was copied from another website, if it was official it would never use an image from another website!

bigboirock89d ago

Why does this even matter to y'all

septemberindecember89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

@ Aenea

If it's headed by the fans then why does Microsoft have a dedicated section of their site for recruitment to the program? https://www.microsoft.com/f...

As you can see from this website ( https://www.onmsft.com/news... it's a program for fans made by Microsoft and headed by Microsoft. They give them "top news, dedicated content, exclusive events, promotions, contests, gifts and much more"...how the hell could a FAN MADE SITE give give out dedicated content, create Microsoft contests or create Microsoft promotions?

Oh, and that image was posted by Xbox-anywhere on their site.

https://xbox-anywhere.com/2...

Translate the site and you will see that only the first image was from the MS France and the House of Fans. Xbox-Anywhere never said that both images were from MS France and the House of Fans.

You are listening to users on Neogaf without doing research for yourself.

DialgaMarine89d ago

@September Read it again, the MS France fan page even said that the numbers were not official and were simply estimates taken from VGC.

The most official source we've gotten this year was from EA, who said both PS4 and Xbone have sold around 79 million. Sony announced 53.4 million units sold around the same time. Do some math 79 - 53.4 = 25.6, but we'll say 26 million for margin of error. Either way, there's not a chance in hell Xbone has managed to sell over 10 million units since January, when its barely been in the 100K+ range during every month, this year, in its strongest region.

Believe what you want, but this isn't 1984 kiddo. 2 + 2 does NOT equal 5 because you want it to.

septemberindecember89d ago

@dialga

Where on MS France page did they say that the estimates were from VGC? Provide me that source.

septemberindecember89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Just for your information, my argument is NOT that the 36 million number is accurate. If you have some evidence that disproves it (something concrete, not neogaf speculation) I'm all for it. I never said that the 36 million number was the amount sold, and I'm not intending to.

Personally, I don't care what the official shipped Xbox one numbers are, but the claim that VGChartz is overestimating Xbox numbers because it's Xbox are ridiculous.

Aenea88d ago

@september

The fans are recruited! Recruited for what? Think! To just sit there and read stuff MS writes for them? Why would one need to be invited for such a thing? Why would you need to be an active user, a super fan, to be invited and just twiddle your thumbs and read content that's being made by MS themselves? Doesn't make any sense at all, now does it?

The biggest hint that the number there was incorrect and unofficial was that the infographic states the exact number (36.2) as Wikipedia France had at that time, EXACT number! And Wiki France claimed VGChartz as it's source.

And seriously, you're not arguing about the number being correct, but you are arguing if the numbers are official or not, that's the same difference!

Theknightofnights88d ago (Edited 88d ago )

@aenea

House of Fans is just a French version of the the First League program Microsoft set up for eastern Europe. They are pages set up by Microsoft and managed by Microsoft employees. The "recruitment" is to show your dedication to the Microsoft platforms (windows/Xbox) so you can get inside knowledge and special previews. They even have events you can join that Microsoft pays for.

AngelicIceDiamond88d ago

"Xbox live has a drought in player base" That's a new one. If that's so true how I'm always able to find games fast and easy across multiple games with out any problems? Make up stuff as you go N4G if it makes you feel better .Delusional, desperate hate, or just flat out stupid which one are yall?

I'll pick, Probably just stupid.

septemberindecember88d ago

@aenea

No, stating that the group is Microsoft created and monitored is NOT stating that the information is accurate. We've seen companies post inaccurate information before.

Ea financial results at the start of the year indicated around 27 million from memory so this could be correct.

DialgaMarine89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

25.6 million was what EA said, so I have my doubts that it has managed to sell over 4 million units this year.

sd1186d ago (Edited 86d ago )

@dialga. Thanks, i knew it was close but couldn't remember tge exact number. I think 30 million is possible, based on around 100,000 sales a week it should be quite close to that figure.
@shloobmm3. That infographic is fanmade with no real facts. It was not done by ms.

Ausbo89d ago

I don't understand why people like you think Xbox is selling horribly. Is the PS4 blowing it away? Yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean Xbox is doing bad. It's still doing great. It will most likely pass 360 numbers, which sold well.

Dark_Knightmare289d ago

It's not even going to sniff Xbox 360 numbers not even close

badz14989d ago (Edited 89d ago )

the xbone won't surpass the 360 number. I doubt that it's already at 30 mil anyway.

aside from the Wii which was an anomaly, the console that won a gen was always the console with better 3rd party support. the 360 had that last gen yet the PS3 with a 1 - 1.5 year disadvantage matched it in the end. so what makes the xbone which is inferior there and lacking in exclusives has a chance? the X is not gonna help it sell another 50mil - not before Sony call it a day and start their new gen anyway.

modelgod89d ago

It's doing well, but it'll be nowhere near the 360.

Ausbo89d ago

It's outpacing the 360 numbers. So you all are wrong. http://www.icxm.net/x/xbox-...

Aceman1889d ago

Honest question my man, do you really think the X is all of a sudden going to sell 50 million units to match the 360?

Knushwood Butt89d ago

Maybe if they trigger the red ring of X they'll be able to sell millions more, like last gen.

zypher88d ago

Too funny! PS3 was never at any point more than 10 million behind the 360 (despite launching a full year later), and the doom-and-gloom was almost deafening. Yet you're trying to say being at least 30 million behind is no big deal?

Why is it hard to believe as people do say that it's being outsold by 2:1, so given how the PS4 is at over 60 then it could be around 30 million going by that logic

modelgod89d ago

If they say 30 million and you don't believe them, then one can surmise that they should be close to 30 right? So your prediction of them hitting 30 required what level intellect?

thisismyaccount89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

October 2016 ~22mill. according to MS themselves (image from neogaf, forgot the thread/post)
http://imgur.com/1ju2gPM

Then we have this site here statista.com, claiming that MS will have sold close to 40mill. by the end of 2017 (37.4mill. to be exact) .. which is hard to believe and nothing to be ashamed of. MS would have shared this long time ago, all we know it is tracking below the 360 (dunno by how much though).
https://archive.is/YjYfB

Hard time to believe, that over 8mill. come frum the UK and other parts of the world. When MS barely sold ~500K units in the USA the past 5 months or so (100K per month on avg.) ... i don´t think that there is a market like the UK or Germany or whole Asian put together, where MS is selling over 100K unit each month.

Again ... 30mill. is not bad! MS would have shared this long time ago, like they did back in october of 2016. Assuming that they were indeed selling 500k WW each month since october = that equals to add. 5mill. sold console = 22+5 = 27 at most. 100k units coming from the USA ... 400K units rest of the world. Hmm...

danny81889d ago

who cares how much it sold lol play your video games ya weirdo

shloobmm389d ago

Actually back in Junr Xbox France said the number was over 36 million. So I would expect the number to be closer to 40
https://winbuzzer.com/2017/...

Christopher88d ago

I don't find this hard to believe in the slightest.

DeadSilence89d ago

Yeah no. 30 millions is pushing.

SirJoJo89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

Wow... this comment section is cancer, people are litterally getting upset that the Xbox sales are more than likely over 30mill. WHY? what bothers you so much about that? it's nowhere near PS4 sales and that's fine. Thus far the Xbox one has sold very well, its just the PS4 has been selling extraordinarily well and that's great. Gaming is in a good place, the more consoles out there, whether it's PS4s or Xbox ones is good for gaming, it means a bigger pool for devs to drop their game in, making them more money meaning more games for us. Get out of this fanboy fantasy and just support gaming, who cares what console someone prefers to play on.... are they playing games.... yes! and that is it, some people really need to get over themselves in this community.

Rude-ro89d ago

I shall answer that for you...
See, Microsoft is all about marketing and they use their media friends to carve a path for them selves by using dirty media tactics or spins on facts.
Vgcharts is an example. It is not an official site. They can create what looks like a growth, a slow down etc...
Example, as Microsoft was getting trounced 2 years ago... vgcharts actually stopped reporting... then started reporting 4 months behind. There just was not any good news.

Microsoft is a dangerous company, and many want them out. All they do is monopolize.
Hope that helps.

SirJoJo89d ago

Oh please GTFO with that utter biased nonsense you just pulled from tin foil hat fantasy land.

_-EDMIX-_89d ago

No. They are upset because the number is not from any official source.

SirJoJo89d ago

Why though, why is that even considered to be something to get upset about? Do these guys have stock or work for Microsoft? or the competition? lol crazy

BenRage388d ago (Edited 88d ago )

N4G's comment sections can be cancerous sometimes, but it can be way worse than what you're reading here. If you haven't figured it out by now, N4G's fan base is overwhelmingly biased toward Sony. My comment will be downvoted just for pointing it out. I'm console agnostic. I like everything: Sony (I still play the Vita), Microsoft, Nintendo and PC. To me it's always been about the games regardless of the platform. Despite the fact that I probably play PS4 more than any platform these days, I get downvoted all the time just for saying things like, "I like the Xbox One." It is what it is. We live in a gaming golden age, so enjoy what you enjoy, and try not to let it bother you.

So Xbox 1 is low compared to 60+ million.

Woolly_89d ago (Edited 89d ago )

It's only 30 million ;) #NoOfficialFigures

WasimAkram89d ago

Tells you how embarrased MS is. Lol

Athos88d ago (Edited 88d ago )

Kinda reminds you of Playstation with the PS3 huh? Remember, when they wouldn't share any sales information...

What goes around, comes around.

Edit: Tell me, how many PS Vita's are sold again? How many PSVR's, how many PS4 Pro's (which I own BTW)? Yeah, you dont see Sony bragging about them a lot huh. They must just be super embarrassed by your logic. /s
