Venture Beat: "Video game spending is up across the board in the U.S. in July. Nintendo drove both software and hardware sales, which grew 19 percent year-over-year to reach $588 million, according to the industry-tracking firm The NPD Group."
Congratulations Nintendo, well done. Glad to see you back.
Welcome back to the big league! Happy to have you back Nintendo :) Now please give me another punch out!
While the article points out that the PS4 is number one to date, you get the feeling that switch could have matched it or come close if the units actually existed... I really believe that. The article only states the leadership of Switch and PS4 as drivers of increased revenue YoY... Xbox can be apart of this conversation in November. While sales might not be up YoY, expect the $500 price tag to boost revenue.
GTA V... the game with legs :P congrats Nintendo on Splatoon 2. Loving the game.
And yet so many on this site only want to talk about exclusives, why is that? For Honor sold more than Horizon this year, so who is purchasing these games and why are those people not being representated here proportionally?
lol without fail
Always gotta find a way to spin that narrative.
"Nintendo was the big winner last month, with Splatoon 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart 8 all in the top 10. Splatoon 2 was a highly anticipated sequel and a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Nintendo’s Splatoon 2 was the best-selling title of the month,” said Piscatella. “Three of the month’s top seven best-selling games are published by Nintendo. Nintendo was also the best-selling software publisher in July.” “Accessories for the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft’s Xbox One drove spending growth. Lord Nintendo number 1, but not bad for everyone else, good sales all around, but Wow Nintendo sold the most software out of everyone is impressive, despite how much hardware sold on ps4, 3ds and xbox one I am amaze with Zelda, and such a shame for Horizon its gone from the chart The best-selling games over the last 12 months 1)Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare 2)Battlefield 1 3)NBA 2K17 4)Madden NFL 17 5)Grand Theft Auto V 6)Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands 7)FIFA 17 8)The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild* 9)Final Fantasy XV 10)For Honor Say whatever you want, but for Breath of the Wild a game that came out in March is rising up the charts with all those big releases that came out around holiday time.....maybe it can move up next month to number 7 but I doubt it, because all the games ahead of it came out for multiple systems and they add up total for each system, so Fifa probably well over 10 million sold with all systems combine.......I am surprise it past Final Fantasy XV, that one came out on multiple systems
Why is it a shame horizon wasn't on the chart this month besides fanboys trying to use it as some indictment on its quality. I mean when you really look at it a new I.p. from a studio who had never done an open world game scored an 89 on metacritic, is number 7 this month on the ps4 only chart and is the fifth best selling game of all 2017 that as the analyst pointed out in this very article helped along with neir and a few others to lead the resurgence of rpgs. Horizon as a very bright future ahead for itself as a series and with the first scoring an 89 on metacritic the second is easily going to be cracking the 90s. I will give it to you for fanboying pretty well and skirting around things that would have torn down your ridiculous horizon dig seriously it was impressive but not everybody on here is a brain dead fanboy who don't know the facts.
The fact that you guys want to talk about Horizon multiple times more than other games that are above it speaks volumes here.
you going too hard to defend Horizon, no need to be sensitive, all I said it was a shame, I did not add anything after it to make it look worse, you did that by trying to defend the game, talking about the playstation only chart, so of course games would look better on a chart if you single things out, but having to remove so many games ahead of it to make the game look like it have appeal is where you made the game look bad. All I said it was a shame, you could even switch out shame with the word suck, it sucks that it did not place on the chart, thats all. And I am a SwitchPS4 owner, but I think its cool that you think I only own the Switch. Like I said, dont be so sensitive, a game on 60 million hardware sold struggling to keep up with Zelda is not good. Look at splatoon 1, sold over 4 to 5 million with much less hardware and it was a new IP. I personally never use new IP as an excuse for anything, some sell, some dont, developers go back to drawing board. From what I see on the sales chart most of Horizon sales come from UK, so Sony better thank them because without the UK the sales of Horizon would be worse. and my PSN name is Gemmol
horizon was a horribly repetitive game. it's a shame of all the potential they let go unused. but i guess it was more important to bring dull brown color palettes. i think nintendo is one clueless bunch, but zelda was the better game in terms of variety.
&Chris235 actually play the game before you criticize it because if you did you wouldn't have said that asinine comment about it being dull brown lol when the game is colorful as all hell
Woah woah woah lol once again you use selective reading I provided the PS4 only sales chart along with the top best selling games of all 2017 where it's number 5 which coincidentally tears down your new argument that if it wasn't for the U.K. Horizon would have done worse when n.p.d is the us only and once again it's the fifth overall best selling game with only ghost recon wildlands, gta 5,legend of Zelda and for honor in front of it which is three multiplats and one exclusive so yeah lol. Zelda was the only thing on switch for months while on ps4 horizon had to contend with tons of multiplats along with other exclusives like persona 5,neir automata, nioh, yakuza,MLB the show and few others. Now you try to make horizon look bad by saying it's struggling against Zelda when it's Zelda that actually looks bad considering it was the only game worth owning on switch for the like first two or three months and is a 30 year old beloved series against a new I.p which btw horizon as sold more worldwide like are your serious. @moldybread I rarely agree with you but what you said is the truth and goes with what I said early about how these fanboys were so nervous about horizon for some reason that they couldn't quit bringing it up and like you said it speaks volumes that they would rather constantly bring horizon up rather than the games that are above it and they don't even realize it lol.
Nintendo domination !
Do you see what i mean by people making excuses? You using 30 year old game as a reason for it doing well and then say its competing with other games, do you not see charts for holiday games sales, or right now in Japan, people buy over 1 million software on 3ds and 1 million over ps4 for dragon quest, then you have 925,000 sales of splatoon 2 if you like media create chart or 975,000 sales of splatoon 2 if you like famitsu chart.....in just 3 weeks they probably sold close to 4 to 5 million games for splatoon 2 and dragon quest for 3ds and ps4......my point if people really want a game it will sell, and it goes back to what i said earlier, some games will sell huge, some don't, developers go back to drawing board. But go ahead and keep defending
Man got to love bringing facts to a comment and getting downvoted by the fanboys it's really quite sad
Nice reply ignoring my whole comment and instead jumping to media create for some reason when we were taking about npd
Zelda is the only exclusive on the top 10 for the year , although im sure Odyssey will be on the list this year too. Guess that game wasn't the zelda killer everyone was claiming it to be.
Who was claiming that besides Nintendo fanboys who for some reason were so worried about horizon. Horizon scored 89 on metacritic and has sold 4 million plus I don't think anybody really cares when it's done that outstanding.
go take a look at YouTube, N4G and Twitter. Not hard to find these people. Just so you know. Nintendo fans don't do comparison unless the comparison is made against something Nintendo related.
I'm not even talking about Horizon, obviously Horizon was never compared to, or on par with Zelda, that would just be delusional lol. Stop being so defensive about your favorite games.
I'm not being defensive was just saying I didn't see that. Oh btw Zelda isn't the only exclusive in the top ten for the year horizon is also there in the number 5 spot
"horizon is also there in the number 5 spot " What number 5 spot? Because it's certainly not in the 5 spot of US sales for the month of July, BOTW is..
@monstertard no dude the one person said Zelda is the only exclusive in the top ten for all of 2017 so far which isn't true because horizon is also there at the number 5 spot. The only games that have sold more than it in 2017 are for honor, ghost recon wildlands, gta 5 and Zelda.
Sure but what source are you going by? Got a link?
@Dark_Knightmare2 That not what he was talking about. he talking about the best-selling list for the past year. Zelda is the only on in that list not the 2017 list the Past Year list. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Battlefield 1 NBA 2K17 Madden NFL 17 Grand Theft Auto V Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands FIFA 17 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild* Final Fantasy XV For Honor Notice Zelda is the only with a *
@monstertard sure this very article shows it
Okay I see it now and you're right. Judging by the comments I'm not the only one that over looked it.
@monstertard no problem most people are just fanboys who don't even bother to check hence the downvotes. Oh and I don't think you're a fanboy you seem like a level headed dude so I don't want you to think I was saying that about you.
Between this and the Media Create info from the past few weeks it looks like Nintendo is in a fantastic spot indeed. With Mario + Rabbids coming soon and the stock issues starting to clear up a bit they should be able to ride things out until Mario hits in October. After that they'll probably be seeing similar success through the Holidays. Great turnaround from the Wii U days.
Great news for Nintendo. Bad news for those hoping the Switch was going to be another Wii U so that Nintendo would go 3rd party.
compared to last month NPD, less comments, but I guess its because the Switch was number 1 in hardware and software sold, with 3 games in the top 7 games sold for the month.......if it said playstation won, it would have a lot of comments like last month
I was very surprised by this game. My first splatoon experience and I'm loving it thus far.
