Pachter also believes that Super Mario Odysssey will be outsold by Call of Duty WWII and FIFA 18.
"Pachter also believes that Super Mario Odysssey will be outsold by Call of Duty WWII and FIFA 18." Wow you don't say? You can add Star Wars Battlefront 2 to that Captain Obvious
LOL he needed something to say about Nintendo so badly
Did he? Oh yeah, you didn't read the article and jump to the comment section like the usual fanboy of this site. Here's the quote from the article “Well, Super Mario Odyssey will be the most successful first party game by a lot, it’ll have a 1:1 attach ratio. And if Nintendo merely does its 10 million forecast, so they have 10 million Switches out there, they’ll sell 12 million copies of Odyssey, so that game will be phenomenal. “But as far as overall sales go, I think Call of Duty WWII and FIFA 18 will both outsell it…just not on the basis of single platform sales.” http://gamingbolt.com/xbox-... Talk about bad mouthing Nintendo! Damn Pachter!
@Petebloodyonion fanboy? me LOL I love N4G so easy to find people like you who hit the disagree button.
@otaku You just got busted for being a fanboy without even reading the article. Not to mention, I'd like to see your argument on how you're NOT a Nintendo fanboy.
@BiggerBoss Except if yall had good reading comprehension you see that I didn't say "he needed something bad to say about Nintendo" Of course you guys switch the words around and your mind took it as if I was saying he talking bad about Nintendo which I never said.
I want Patcher's job. Getting paid to state the obvious and make silly predictions would be good.
Also, how would Halo and Gears cause Microsoft to lose market share? Like this makes no sense. It takes a lot of effort to make a game do that to a console. This only makes sense if you look at the totality of one library to another. It can only cause a platform to gain market share and another to lose it indirectly. For example, we could say that Sony's 2017 releases thus far have caused them to sell more consoles than the competition. and that Microsoft's lack of releases caused them to sell less - but its impossible to say that Microsoft lost market-share by releasing Halo Wars 2. That doesn't add up.
He's saying that relying on "the same old franchises" won't lower their market share, but it won't increase it either.
Hasn't Pachter been promoted to Admiral Obvious by now?
I predict red dead redemption 2 to outsell mario within a month of is release.
Wow, WTF is this Pachter smoking? "Xbone won't gain market share but won't lose any either"?? He's a market analyst but doesn't he know how stupid his claim is sounding right now? The market share is 100% and with the Switch coming into the mix, either the Xbone or PS4 will lose some market share while the Switch gains some of it. So, for the Xbone to not lose any of its current market share, it has to outsell the PS4 heavily so the Switch's gains becomes the PS4's loss while the Xbone stays the same. Sorry Pachter, but the trend says otherwise. The PS4 will likely not lose any market share while Xbone will lose it's market share to the Switch.
I thought he said they wouldn't lose any due to halo and gears. So they'll still lose some overall but more due to switch. Also he was talking purely market share between PS and xbox, he was saying Sony would maintain a 2:1 advantage over MS.
If Halo and GeOW won't increase their market share, then it doesn't mean they can't lose market share. All that it would take for them to lose market share is for Sony or Nintendo to sell more consoles in relation to how many MS sells. If Nintendo manages to match MS own sales going forward, and Sony and MS remains constant in sales, then both Sony and MS lose market share while Nintendo gains some. Sony and MS own consoles sold will go up, but the actual market share percentages will be shifted. Market share is just a percentage of the whole, not a measure of total sales when looked at in a bubble.
all valid points to an extent.
True at this point I agree with this F●●●●
Those franchises aren't as effective as system sellers as they were last gen
Anyone who understands the human race's group mentality and typical tribe social behavior knows that PS4 can't be stopped. Even if they stopped making exclusives, they'd still outsell XBO this gen now. The snowball effect is too far gone. People will simply keep following the masses. But M$ knows that... The stuff they're doing to win people back now isn't to fix the XBO generation, it's to fix the next. ..While Sony is buckling back down on anti consumer shit like 70 dollar remasters and 100 dollar exclusives like the other half of Uncharted 4's game, "Lost Legacy", M$ is giving people what they're asking for in terms of services, hardware and even still investing in some cool games as well. ..This time next gen we'll likely see the next underdog. Sony... And then what happens you may ask?.. The cycle will continue once again.. It seems like as soon as 1 of these companies gets a leg up they forget the leg that brought them there.
Don't bother bringing up the snowball effect, common sense has no place here. "Hey buddy, I bought a PS4 maybe you should get one too so we can play CoD" "Nah, I chose an XB1 to spite you" That shit doesn't happen, if you live a somewhat social life with other people who game you're going to go ahead and make decisions not ENTIRELY based on the library. Someone owning a specific console and wanting to play say Destiny or Battlefront with that person is a huge influence on people when it comes to these things. Why buy an XB1 if most of my friends have PS4? Why buy a PS4 if all your friends have XB1's? Of course there are dual console owners, people who maybe could care less with what their friends play and don't like MP all the zillion different variables in between. But when 5 out of 6 friends already have PS4's...what choice would you make regardless of library? I'm not fully on board with Narsaku calling things like Lost Legacy or SOTC Remastered a anti consumer move, that terms a bit loaded and used so often it has kind of lost its meaning. So yeah, the snowball effect is real. They could stop releasing exclusives and the PS4 will still dominate sales charts, there is no reversing this tide.
Investing in Cool games, boi!. Ignorance is strong with this youngling. Like Xbox is anti consumer ever since cancelling JRPG, false advertising about Halo 5 story, lied about the Power of the cloud, Crackdown 3 downgraded, more.
Yet it was stopped in Japan since launch.
In other words, he has no idea what the future holds other than making predictions based on current status.
Not necessarily true. My friends have been xbox gamers since forever and ive been with playstation. Haven't gamed with them online for years and they're jumping platform. I know that no one cares but to game with your buddies again since ps1 days is just epic man
None of my friends except for 1 have ever owned a Sony console. Weird right?
They are dumb or not exist at all.
Why? Are you dumb for owning a ps system? They just prefer Xbox. Personally I've tried to get them to own multiple systems to take advantage of all games but it's not for everyone.
gears will certainly do nothing but there's still hope for halo
If the games lineup were reversed (with the exception of the JRPGs because the Japanese would not buy into xbox anyway) the marketshare would still be the same. For as much as people bicker on this site, most are still loyal to a brand and not the games. Uncharted would get trashed by playstation loyalist for being a tomb raider rip off with movie set pieces. Halo would get trashed by Xbox loyalist for being a generic shooter. Etc etc. All things being equal, Playstation will always come out on top in hardware sales because of the strong brand worldwide due to the major success of the original (due to Nintendos lack of forsight). So, if you mainly game on Xbox just enjoy what you have and know that the brand will never win the sales war. If you mainly game on Playstation, enjoy what you have. If you make your hardware decision based on popularity, enjoy.
So people buy PlayStation because of PS1's history and loyalty to the Sony brand. If they cared about the games, they would buy XBox ... Interesting delusion you have.
...... That is not what I said at all.
Aside from mistakes we all know MS made with Xbox One, Microsoft's problem is they are trying to placate the wrong demographics. Xbox fans are pretty devoted to the franchises and the console itself so it's beyond me why they haven't realized that these fans got older/matured. I think the last thing they would want to do is water-down everything we grew up on for a decade and a half and are familiar with to appeal to an audience with no familiarity or respect for those key franchises - which seem like mainly the types that Nintendo won over with the Wii...those people have short attention spans and are most likely on a DS or phone (if still gaming), but likely wasting their time on facebook more than anything else so they shouldn't be worth that bother. I find myself rolling my eyes more and more with the stuff I'm playing - I couldn't even hit the halfway point in Halo 5 over how hokey it was as opposed to how captivated I was with the first time I played the original. While Gears still kind of hit that spot, I have to get that job done through dark souls, far cries, and witchers
And thanks again Captain Obvious.
I predict pachter will make another obvious prediction next week.
No sh*t Pachter!! O my God, i want his job cous i can predict better as him. Infact most of the gamers here will do a better job than the wizard Pachter.😂😂
Ehh...I think MS will continue to have its niche so long as it has its few flagship titles, but probably won't win over too many new fans with just those exclusives, so Patcher's probably right in this case. The comment about Super Mario Odyssey likely being outsold by the latest FPS and sports titles (which I might add are also multiplats) is so far into the captain obvious realm that it's a wonder this guy gets paid for his opinions when anyone could have figured that. Maybe I'm in the wrong field if there is money to be made by just throwing out armchair opinions that sometimes stick, usually when they're obvious, and are at other times way off base.
