When it comes to the world of AAA games, totally new intellectual properties seem rarer than ever these days Generally, new IPs are a risky venture, and because of that, some companies steer clear of them for years (or even decades) at a time.
Sony does This gen they've made Until dawn Horizon Nioh Bloodborne the order Knack Drive club Hell blade Days gone Dreams Wild DQ warriors DQ builders The last guardian. .(tho I was supposed to be last gen like ryse, it's still a new ip this gen) Detroit I may be missing some and this excludes indies Nintendo and MS are lacking buy sony has been busy with new stuff
Like lets say Sony owned Smash bros, you would of seen them release SEVERAL sequels with little improvements all on one console cycle.Look at Nintendo, one per console with substantial improvements.Sony doesn't treat their IPs as good as Nintendo does. Let's look at Killzone Shadow Fall, the last killzone game arguably one of the worst in the series....great send off right? Can you find a example of Nintendo doing this to their IP? Nope cause they dont run things into the ground. You don't need to create new IPs often when your IPs are actually good and no company, including Sony, would want to make more new IPs over having good IPs...trust me on that
I fail to see how that's on topic....
Metroid Other M...? Metroid Prime 3, Trilogy and other M all released on the Wii. They skipped the WiiU and will be coming out with Prime 4 for the Switch.
How else should I have stated it? It's sony's console that these games are on, I mean by that logic MS has released 0 new AAA games. Sunset overdrive -insomniac Quantum break -remedy Ori, cuphead, below all indies made by other devs....hell even halo and gears were new ips made by other devs..(bungie,epic) Crackdown by sumo, forza horizon series is made by playground games....cancelled scalebound was by platinum..I was willing to ignore how MS has 0 AAA new ips..less than the switch (arms ) but here yall go acting like I'm trolling....how else was I to word it? Smh I'll wait for all the disagrees but no solid answer.
You could have stated it as a culmination of new IP's, not specifically limited to a single platform. Like the topic is about. Like this: Until dawn Horizon Nioh Sunset overdrive Bloodborne the order Knack Ori Drive club Hell blade Quantum Break Days gone Dreams Wild No Mans Sky DQ warriors DQ builders Arms Cuphead Basically listing new IP's of all sorts and platforms. Your initial list was not wrong, just limited. the topic at hand is making new IP's and there have been plenty this gen. If the topic was about who has put more effort in supporting new IP's then by all means it would be Sony. No argument there.
Why don't people list all the new IP's on the PC, or are we all still just focused on the battle between the consoles?
They already do
Mostly because new IPs are extremely expensive and risky propositions.
So far this gen, Sony has funded plenty of new IPs. Ubisoft as well. Others, yeah not so much.
They keep on funding IPs and hoping they get something that sticks with consumers
Given that Sony had three major GOTY winning IPs last gen; LBP, Uncharted, and TLOU. They released or are releasing sequels for all these ones, while funding new ones, such as Bloodborne, Until Dawn and HZD, all of which ended up being well received. Winning formula, and defo resonating with consumers.
Meanwhile Nintendo rehashes the same ips over and over. And all these kids jump on it because they have no sense of taste. "Can't teach an old dog new tricks."
Because it's risky your never guaranteed a success with a new IP as opposed to a sequel. That being said it would be cool if devs and publishers took more chances and give us new and unique games.
