Jason Stettner of Gamerheadquarters writes; "One of the best recent things to come from gaming are the creation of game passes or well subscription based models to access games."
God no you corporate shill
Only $30 a year and I get games nearly free? Eh, I don't mind being called corporate shill. But then you're advocating for something more expensive so what does that make you?
I'm good, I just wanna buy my games the old fashioned way.
I'm not saying this should happen but what's wrong with having the option. You will always be able to buy your games the old fashion way.
Too much of a good thing tends to saturate the market to the point where no one cares about any of it, or only one or two actually become successful. While I have no problem with other companies doing this if they so choose, I can't see it becoming successful across the board, and likely the only companies which will be successful are those that have the most to offer, and unfortunately, those are the companies which most of us tend to not be that fond of, like EA, Ubi, or Activision. It's not that EA hasn't impressed me with this service, while I was a doubter at the beginning, just that despite the inherent value, I just don't see the appeal of having a lot of different choices for these kinds of services.
Like some locked content on UPlay service
No, they shouldn't. I'm not paying for 1,000 different subscriptions.
Um you know you wouldn't be obligated to subscribe, you would have a choice. Well unless you only play on PS4, then I doubt you would.
However you try to justify it dude. It's also funny that you would single out PS4 in your comment. But, you are right. There would be no obligation to sub, but if people are complaining about all of the subs we have now, (PS plus, PSnow, xboxlive, whatever that other thing that xbox has is called) what makes you think that people would want that "choice" when they're already complaining about the ones we have already?
I mention PS4 because it's relevant to the discussion, Sony has made it clear this kind of thing will not happen on their console. So this argument is moot for any PS4 gamer. Don't get defensive and think I'm trying to some stupid fanboy crap, I'm over 12 years old
How is the argument moot just because he's a PS4 gamer and Sony doesn't give the choice? The topic is broad in scope, not a console thing. Your the one that brought up the PS4 without making it relevant to the conversation, because all the OP did was say he didn't want 1000 different subs. So, you have to tell us how the PS4 is relevant to the conversation at hand, when the topic and the OP made no mention of it.
Ea access will compete with psnow on ps4 Its called business
Exactly what do you mean?
What a dumbass... who raised you man?
I'm more inclined to ask "what" raised him.
A single subscription might be cheap or maybe two or so, but once you have like 10 or more it all goes out the window. Besides many people complain about not having the time right now with games they buy to play them all. On a subscription service like EA Access would become a nightmare if a lot of major publishers did it.
Origin Access is ok but EA still blows.
No, No, No, No, and more No Seriously can you imagine paying $30 each year for Ea 2k Take 2 Activision WB Atlus Bandai Namco Bethesda Ubisoft Sony MS Nintendo Squad Deep silver And so much more
You know you dont have to sub to all of them..... lol it like being upset a new burger joint coming and complaining about having to pay for it along with micky D, BK, white castle, etc lol. Id take ea, ms, 2k, and maybe activision thank you. $120 a year for a collection of games, discounts, early access, free plays vs $480+ a year for just 8 games lol. That $120 for 4 subs and get wwe2k madden, live, nba, cod, halo, etc. I guess some dont like saving money. (Then they go buy a $100 dlc aka destiny 2 lol) In reality many dont put out enough yearly content do it. Ea stay loaded with 5-8 games a year so theyre abl to pull it off.
You don't have to, but they could start locking content behind the subscription services pushing you to buy into them. This is a corporate dream and a gamers nightmare. If all major publishers start to do this and it becomes the norm, what is to stop them from taking things a step further. Nothing
If is kept as an option then that is fine.
Agreed. The issue we have is too many publishers are just greedy. You give them an inch ,they TAKE A MILE! They won't see this as "an option" they will legit try to FORCE titles to be STREAMING ONLY to get subs. I won't even entertain the industry going to that. In a perfect world, sure...its simply an option, but this isn't something I'd encourage. They are already trying to force games as a service.
I think everyone is right about the lack of need for more publishers services, all charging $5 to $10 a month. That would add up rather quickly. On the other hand, making subscription services such as PSNow and Xbox game pass more affordable would be great. Likely making them more money in the long run of things. If PSNow followed the Netflix price of $8-10 per month, I would have no problem keeping that subscription going, allowing for a multitude of games from several different publishers. $20 per month for that service is a bit too steep, in my opinion.
Nothing is preventing ubi, taketwo, activision, capcom, sega to have their own service right now on xbox one If they didnt do it yet, its because this kind of service doesnt worth for them now
EA Access is $30 for the year ($2.50 a month) if you buy it by the year
No thanks I dont want my Credit Card on all these different services
No I just want to play on PS Now and wait as 43rd player in the queue. I ain't got time or money to buy all these subscriptions.
No thanks. I like owning games. Will never be interested in "games as a service". To each their own though.
Of course. What we need is another 100 monthly subscription bills so we can bleed out any sense of income from everyone. Sounds like a smashing idea. I mean really, what could possibly go wrong?
No we need no such services at all. I dislike them. I want to own a complete game in a box with an instruction book with no DLC ripoffs or messed up games with patches required.. The way it was in the PS2 days and before.
No thanks, I have enough subs
No. I would rather other publishers just put their games in gamepass. More subscription services will just get expensive
The only way is going to work is if the subscriptions are $9.99 a month or $7.99 a month. Also it would eliminate the need of a console hardware.I hope both Xbox Game Pass and PS Now succeed. By eliminating console hardware in favor of those two subscriptions gaming would no longer be shackled to outdated hardware or the need for game developers to buy development kit 😋
If EA access came to PS4 i would subscribe.
I still would not
