Jason Hill writes: "From Screen Play's time with the game it seems Gears of War 2 is more of the same, but it is better paced and has some pleasing new additions. It's hard to imagine too many complaining (other than the marketing department trying to push 360's new family-friendly credentials).
Set just six months after the original, the game sees humanity on the brink of extinction, decimated by a disease called "Rust Lung" triggered by the detonation of the Lightmass Bomb at the conclusion of the first game. Worse, the Locust Horde are back, creating giant emergence holes capable of destroying entire cities.
The action begins in Jacinto, one of the last remaining cities, with Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago and the other remaining COGs planning to take the fight to the Locust in humanity's last stand.
Newcomers are smartly accommodated in the game's introduction thanks to a new rookie who Marcus is asked to train. Experts are given the option to skip the tutorial, which teaches important elements of the game like the use of cover, the "roadie run" and using weapons like grenades, but it's not long before you're shooting at real enemies rather than bottles on a wall.
The first sequence has players charging through the corridors of an abandoned hospital."
