Rather that tell fans what to expect from their beloved Halo franchise, Bungie and Microsoft have chosen to keep gamers guessing.
First came the rumor that Gearbox, makers of the very un-Halo-like Brothers in Arms series, would take the helm of Halo 4. Then Bungie released its "Keep it Clean" trailer, which led the Halo faithful to the conclusion that an upcoming Halo 3 expansion would be a squad-based tactical shooter minus Master Chief. It seems the money-printing franchise that helped define the Xbox brand is being scattered to the wind, and it remains to be seen if Bungie, Microsoft and any yet-unconfirmed newcomers can keep the Halo brand strong. But, in case it should stumble, there's a new contender for the Xbox shooter throne.
