PlayStation 2: The Games That Defined a Generation

Game Informer: "With over 100 million units sold worldwide and a lifespan stretching far beyond any other console to date, the PlayStation 2 is the most successful video game platform of all time. As they say, a system is only as good as its games, and the PlayStation 2 provides a library fit for its 100 million players. As we compiled this list, we found hundreds of games that we would love to play again. Paring down to just 25 proved to be difficult, as the PlayStation 2 wasn't graced by just great individual games, but entire series worthy of playing. Here is Game Informer's selection for the Top 25 must-play PlayStation 2 games or series."

Is shadow of the colossus...

Homicide3363d ago

Its one of the greatest and most artistic game to ever emerge on the PS2 along with Ico.

Kratos Spartan3363d ago

most people will follow the crowd and say it was one of the most amazing games of all time or whatever, but it is not for everyone. All you do is hunt down and destroy huge bosses. It's for a different type of crowd. Alot of people will respond to this and say I am stupid for having my own opinion, and those are the types of people who don't have the intelligence to respect someone else's opinion. It is epic in scale, but play at your own risk. Along with Ico.

This is one of the best games I've ever played. Now, it does have some issues like clunky controls, but over all it was an amazing game that was a pleasure to beat. Plus, it had an amazing ending.

to this day i still havent even play SotC nor ICO. i kno im really missin out on a great experience.

as for da rest of those titles.....Okami was really really ahead of its time. i still dont see wit NFS: Underground is there. aside frm that this list was almost perfect

I know they had a hard time cutting the list down but I think Zone of Enders: 2nd runner should be up there. As well as Tekken Tag Tournament. Leaving out the Tekken series is near unforgivable even.

Wheres Marvel vs Capcom 2 tsk tsk.? They should of made the list the best 50.

ThatCanadianGuy3363d ago

SOTC was there. It was number 23 i believe

BattleAxe3363d ago (Edited 3363d ago )

The SOCOM series should have been on the list. This guy must be living under a rock. SOCOM essentially created the tactical military shoot genre as we know it today.

Homicide3363d ago (Edited 3363d ago )

Shin Megami Tensei series deserves to be there: Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga and Persona. They are way better than Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts 1 sucks!

Nintendo Rep3363d ago (Edited 3363d ago )

PS2 defined the generation? My ass! Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark on the N64 defined a generation. Stealing RE4 from the Gamecube must have defined the generation.

@Below: Can't take the heat sexy? how bout we jump in bed together and sort that out. no homo.

kitzuki3363d ago

i dont see why so many ppl complain about multi platform games
unless the developer is a sony microsoft of nintendos studios then a game isnt stolen

Capcom has been a company out to make the most of thier profits for diferent platforms for a long time
U sir are a example of a tool

Kratos Spartan3363d ago

Super Mario Brothers defined a generation. GTA III defined a generation. Mario 64 defined a generation. I could agree with Goldeneye. Metal Gear Solid. Mario 3. Maybe Sonic, Halo. If I had to choose one, I would say Mario 64 changed it all...

Nintendo Rep3363d ago

Lies. Capcom told everyone that it would be exclusive to Nintendo, about 9 months later... BOOM BíTCH MOVE.

Lord Shuhei Yoshida3363d ago

Yeah you are right,Nintendo Rep.But you cannot deny how great the PS2 was. When Resident Evil 4 came to PS2,it was assured that they had the best games of that generation

"Yeah you are right,Nintendo Rep.But you cannot deny how great the PS2 was. When Resident Evil 4 came to PS2,it was assured that they had the best games of that generation"

So when Final Fantasy XIII comes to the Xbox 360, you can't deny how great the 360 is. When Final Fantasy XIII comes to the 360, it is assuring that they have the best games of this generation.

That's your logic and it fails, everyone knows the Wii continues to dominate and destroy the competiton.

EDIT - What competition?

TheColbertinator3362d ago (Edited 3362d ago )

When Resident Evil 4 was announced for PS2,I lost faith in "exclusives" and realized times have changed

Just gotta love the PS2, some of the best games ever started on the PS2 and there were just so many great games to play on it...anyone that never owned a PS2 really missed out big time.

The GTA series, MGS series, Jak and Daxter series, God of War series, Gran Turismo series, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are my most favorite PS2 games though. I really do hope that those "Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier" rumors are true because I really want a Jak and Daxter game on the PS3.

Burnout 3 definantly deserves to be on that list too because that game was very addicting for me... I remember playing that game for hours and hours and I just got a rush everytime I played it.
