Shit that's more than what Mario Kart 8 sold in its first week on Wii U

Gemmol2514d ago (Edited 2514d ago )

and crazy part Wii U had sold way more consoles than the Switch when Mario Kart came out, so its selling well with less hardware sold

PhoenixUp2514d ago

Mario Kart 8 sold 1.17 million units in its first week and caused Wii U hardware sales to spike to 131K that week.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 1.22 million units in its first week and caused Switch hardware sales to spike to 365K that week.

When you take that into consideration, it really puts things into serious perspective how much better Nintendo is doing now. In fact NS has sold more in its first three months than Wii U had in any single year of its entire lifecycle.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

GotGame81869d ago

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

DivineHand12569d ago

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

kevco3369d ago

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.
