There are new pictures of material ray traced on Nvidia GPUs. There are also examples of Hybrid rendering.
Now thats next gen... Cant wait for games to use that, i imagine it will come on PC long before consoles and its still a long way off on pc's.
Actually it would be possible on the Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii. Give or take. PCs are much preferable, I won't mentioned Playstation 3, well because it's the 11 pound paperweight we like to use here at Nintendo, cause you know, we basically print money here.
PS3 and 360 can do it the Wii can't because it can't either live with it or go to your little home the open zone and complain about it there. Ya, it is amazing though.
I beg to differ you see, the Wii architecture is entirely composed of pixie dust and hormones to create a visceral way to track motion sensing. The CPU and GPU are practically thin air that can process even the most difficult calculations known to computer engineering. Trust me, I am sure that "The Cell" is completely bogus and cannot run the simplist processes, much like the Xbox. Even the most state of the art computers cannot run the process of raytracing and hybrid rendering, the truth is that the Roswell incident left material with power so great to power the Wii. Read a textbook sometime and get educated in history.
Nintendo Rep, It is clear to me you just wanna get into a fight so this is all I will say. The PS3 is perfectly capable of ray tracing as has been demonstrated in Warhawk wherein the volumetric clouds are entirely ray traced.
Is this kid special?
And your point? The Wii is also capable of displaying special effects too. http://www.nintendowiifanbo... and @ Giant Enemy Sackboy down there: I will play my Wii, I'll play it with my kids, my wife, my parents. I'll also play legendary series that practically made gaming like Zelda, Metroid and Mario. Mario basically made the platforming genre ergo without it, there would be no Littlebigplanet. (yes I don't care if you're in the beta, go play it) Please pick up a grammar book or sign up for a ESL class, I hope for your sake you speak better English than this incoherent verbal diarrhea you are spitting out of your mouth.
Nothing about the Wii's "Special effects" are that special, any recent tech is able to do all of those. Now we never said it couldn't I was just saying the Wii can't ray trace and the PS3 is fully capable unlike your first comment. Im sure you won't mind if I don't fix your comment and make it grammatically correct. "I will play my Wii. I'll play it with: my [K]ids, my [W]ife, and my [P]arents. I'll also play legendary series that practically made gaming like Zelda, Metroid and Mario. Mario basically made the [P]latforming genre ergo without it, there would be no Littlebigplanet. Yes, I don't care if you're in the beta. Go play it." All those errors were simple English. First, your error was you started putting commas where they didn't belong, then you replaced subjects with Pronouns without capitalizing, you could fix it by replacing with names or the manner in which I did it. I believe it is you who are a failure, generalizations will not help you prove your case at all why don't you go pretend to play with your Wii to compensate for something which you clearly are missing.
Are you serious? This topic and your posts have had little to do with the generalities of "special effects" and whether or not the Wii could compute them, and more to do with ray tracing specifically and whether or not you think the PS3 can perform those calculations. You: "Actually it would be possible on the Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii" This reply was to Ps3fanboy777 who was referring to ray tracing. You think the Wii can ray trace when even the most "state of the art" computers can't?...mmkay. "I won't mentioned Playstation 3, well because it's the 11 pound paperweight...'The Cell' is completely bogus and cannot run the simplist processes, much like the Xbox. Even the most state of the art computers cannot run the process of raytracing" These statements are why I enlightened you to the fact that the PS3 is ALREADY doing ray tracing in Warhawk's clouds, and in GT5's garage sequences. So the Wii can do special effects? Great!...But nobody was questioning that.
LMAO guys I even see why you bother with this guy. I mean come on. His name is Nintendo Rep and he says the Wii of all systems can raytrace.
gt5 prologue to me
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is nothing but a fancy show of shininess, it has no hold on such fun titles like Mario Kart Wii. Mentioning GT5:P is absolutely absurd compared to the raytracing on the Bullet Bill kart in the game.
thats just being biased towards ps3, you love anything pc and hate anything ps3 i can tell that
I would call you a liar but that's not very professional of me. Personally working at Nintendo has been a great learning experience of what fun is, me personally, I don't think a super realistic driving experience is as fun as spinning a remote and riding around blasting my friends with shells. If I really wanted to drive, I will get into my smart car and have a nice electric drive around town.
Why dont u go play some Wii love dust or wii dont play a Sh!thahaha he but dont worry mario 29.4 ,legend of zelda 3450 back to the future and mario water polo are on thier wait u only have to wait five years P.S. LBP is the best game ever (yes im in the beta )
Bugatti Veyron in real-time ray tracing with reflections in reflections, adaptive FSAA and correct shadows. In that pic the shadows don't look right for me. All pics look good though.
It's useless for any application where the user has control. If at any point the end user can cause the entire scene to be rendered in full ray tracing(or w/e it is for videogames) then why bother rendering anything. This would include any reflections that the player could get close to, any refractions that the player gets close to, and any scene where there is a large portion of refractions/reflections. They need to either do ray tracing or rasterization and stop trying to find a middle ground.
The only reason Hybrid rendering is used is because the hardware is not powerful enough to handle rendering things in real time. Everything in your game is rendered it is just pre-rendered as opposed to real time rendering which allows for the elimination of graphical anomalies.
The Wii couldn't trace the crack down Mario's ass.
the nintendo rep is yanking your chains and you take him seriously? You guys are just plain dense. He is having fun at your expense. Nothing he said was even remotely serious...such as..."Wii architecture is entirely composed of pixie dust and hormones to create a visceral way to track motion sensing." Anyway, as much power as this ray tracing hybrid stuff takes, don't expect it on current consoles. It is nice to see, and what we might expect in 10 or so years. Who believes that the clouds in Warhawk are raytraced? I'd like to see a link to REAL info about that! PM me if you find it.
