E3 2017: Sony & Xbox Have Very Different Approaches to Hype

Xbox takes the much louder approach for hype generation, while Sony and the PlayStation brand have remained quiet for the months leading to E3 2017.

nerdmuch.com
Thatguy-3102520d ago

The simple reason for their approach simply falls on how the brand is being viewed at the moment in the industry. Microsoft NEEDS to build hype since they have a new console coming out and are struggling with the competition. Sony on the other hand will be lip sealed until the actual conference start. Look at how amazingly last yr went for them. This year the same outcome is expected.

Gazondaily2519d ago

Yeah exactly.

MS need to generate the hype and so their own machine will work towards creating it. At best; they will launder it successfully if E3 is good. If not...well see last year really.

Sony has a very 'easy' ride this E3. All the hard work in the past ala building studios etc means they can just chill with the myriad of games that can be shown. They do run a risk of not showing enough new unseen stuff but then again they have loads of studios working on stuff so I doubt it will be bad. Sony have had some pretty poor showings like Gamescom or TGS etc but when it comes to E3; they usually smash it.

thekhurg2519d ago

The difference is MS does this E3 hype all the time and continues to disappoint in the long term.

4Sh0w2519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

Microsoft is just more actively engaged with their user base. I like it because they actually implement much of the feedback from the community. I don't want Microsoft to be like Sony. Now, if the haters really looked they would see the majority if the "hype" is from game sites who make 10 news stories out of 1 Phil tweet and other execs answering questions from fans. Hell no he should NOT stop, just cause some psfanboys feelings might get hurt over really not what he said but because of course some Xbox fanboy is going to yell "see mine is better than yours", thats just dumb logic and although it's more rare, when Shu says anything you can bet ps fanboys do the same thing, thats not Shu's fault, fanboys will be fanboys.

It's no coincidence the folks who hate the Microsofts "hype" the most are ps fanboys....yet, all they have to do is ignore Scorpio "hype", bu, but it's a game news site= as if you don't have a CHOICE in what news you click. Yeah, yeah Microsoft has made mistakes but hype= talking to their fans is definitely not one if them, it's actually the reason why X1 has so many great updates and fan service features implemented, thus far. Truth is the extreme ps fanboys just hate seeing any good news for Xbox, thus "hype" is another excuse in a long line of BS excuses that ps fanboys fallback on to justify their hate. Me, I see good news for ps and >>IF it's something that interests me I give credit where credit is due AND on the very rare occasion I think criticism is warranted it's always constructive because I don't feel some childish NEED to just hate on sony.

BiggerBoss2519d ago

Sony's strategy is to actually deliver incredible exclusive games.

Microsofts strategy is to make promises and never deliver (ScaleBound, the Cloud, Illumiroom, Kinect).

Remember when the Cloud was going to make the Xbox One more powerful than the Ps4? Now MS is just releasing a new console lol.

Phill-Spencer2519d ago

4show

ms has almost done nothing more this gen than dangling carrots of false promises in front of xbox users faces. When they find out that the carrots aren't real MS already has a new carrot steady.

Why o why2519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

I see 4 show is doing his utmost to be balanced. . . . . . Appreciated because it's hard and we can often get triggered by other peoples dumb ass comments.

My take is ms need more hype but I understand the cynicism of Sony fans towards ms's pr machine and their fans reaction to said pr. We've been hearing the hype for years now including 'more games coming' but fell flat. I prefer what ms do and have been doing over the vapour fan service. This year has been shit for games but great for services and gamer friendly additions.

Scorpio is a thing that's here to stamp it's mark and that's good for the industry in many ways and the hype/anti hype fuels debate.

Will they bring games though. . .or is the groundswell of having better multiplats enough of a win to paper over the cracks of ms's deficiencies in regards to output and the quality of it.

Hype can only take you so far but it'll be boring without it. We should admit that we enjoy the premise of new, better or more. . . I'll be watching all shows. . Good luck to them all but for me. . .it always has been and will still be about games.

4Sh0w2519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

Why o Why,

Yeah that's the thing I can freely admit as I've said before Microsoft has not delivered this year in terms of huge AAA games, Halo Wars2 is nice but its not enough. While Sony has drop some really great games like Horizon ZD. It's just folks conveniently want act as if that's been the case ALL this gen....no Sony themselves all but admitted they were lacking in 1st party games this gen at one point, plus they really started off slowly imo. It's all subjective but yes Sony has dropped some great games lately but overall since this gen began my money has been well spent on my favorite games this gen, namely Halo5, Dead Rising3, Ryse, Titanfall, Killer Instinct, Forza6, Quantum Break, Gears4, Sunset Overdrive, and Forza H3= Hey, >>>U_R_Weirdos
those are alot more than carrots. If you actually played them instead of hating you would know that. Plus most of these games offer a great online ecoerience, that I play even now, plus of course the tons of great 3rd party games.

NOW, if you say its ALL about what have you done for me lately then I'm with you= Microsoft needs to get some big AAA games out, they suck right now with their scheduling for releases.

Finally though, it's all the double standards, both have hyped graphics, both have over hyped some features that ultimately failed, both has had droughts, both have marketing deals, both have had games canceled, but Microsoft gets much, much more hate whenever they do these things.
No Sony does not engage with their fans as often as Microsoft does, which is fine but in that regard once again I prefer Microsoft's approach, folks who just think it's all talk don't have to listen.

That said Microsoft has to deliver the goods at E3= lots of great looking games. If they don't I'll be the first one on n4g calling them out.

Phill-Spencer2519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

@4show

That's why i wrote "ms has ALMOST more than dangling carrots...." esram, dx12, the cloud + crackdown 3, xbox 1s' uhd drive, ofcourse the past e3's which kept hopes high but disappointed and now it's scorpio being hype as a gamechanger by ms and fans and will most probably disappoint again. But all these things helped to keep hardcore xbox fans stay loyal because of hope in a better future for the underperforming and -delivering brand. Latest example: scorpio. Before scorpio was revealed you could see even the xbox hardliners lowballing some even stating that they want to switch sides if ms doesn't start handeling their first party output right. Fast forward, scorpio gets revealed, they get hyped again, first party don't matter, best CONSOLE version of games becomes the most important.

rainslacker2518d ago (Edited 2518d ago )

Sony hasn't been chilling at all since a few E3's now. They are showing game after game, and not focusing so much on power and hardware. Even the PSVR showing last year didn't even show the hardware or talk about it much, just showed the games on it. Even when E3 is over, Sony doesn't chill, and continue to show games at other times throughout the year. They go silent like they always have before E3, but that's not chilling, that's preparing to show.

It's sony's lack of chilling that is generating hype for their brand, not just their system. MS chilling on the games is giving people the idea that they have no games, and that they think that power is the only thing that matters. MS is trying to ride it out until they release the Scorpio, and hyping up whatever they happen to have, but half the big games they have announced they aren't even talking about. CD3 is AWOL, and has pretty much been a no show for anything meaningful in game play or design since it was announced, with only some vague showings of what looks like what devs use to test random bits of code they're working on. SoT has their developer diaries, and it had a showing in a couple E3's, so....half of their big games.

If Sony chilling is them announcing game after game, showing stuff which excites people, and even making COD interesting in their conference, then MS has reached a state of absolute zero where everything ceases movement.

QUIMICOMORTAL2519d ago

Or...

Yoshida doesn't have to say anything, the games simply come out for the ps4 and they are great, but with MS Phil needs to remind people that the Xbox brand still exist! Otherwise, what does the xbone has to show for all this 2017 months?

Why o why2519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

4 show. .

I don't think the 'droughts' are comparable at all. Many games have been lumped into the 'do not interest me' category. . Some because they're in denial fanboy mode, some honestly aren't interested. If you just look at the list of exclusive games from gen start you can see the total disparity in output.

http://gematsu.com/exclusiv...

http://gematsu.com/exclusiv...

Maybe by drought you mean AAA games but even that is hard to back up when you actually look at the list. Quiet periods, maybe but since gen started Sony have released way more games yoy even before ms started to share with pc .

Extreme fanboys just hate seeing good news on a rivals console. . . . fixed

Elda2520d ago (Edited 2520d ago )

Sony is in a very good position now & don't need to make much noise.Their conference at E3 2017 will speak volumes! Games games games!

ruefrak2519d ago

It seems like this is their approach every year. Sony makes all these little announcements to hype things up while Sony remains silent. Then everyone starts speculating the Sony's silence is a cause for concern... until the press conference where they blow everyone away with amazing games.

AngelicIceDiamond2519d ago

I'm noticing both Sony and MS are rather silent this year. Which is good more surprises and both are treading carfully this year. Mainly MS is being careful and staying hush until the reveal. Lets just hope weeks for the event nothing gets leaked.

ruefrak2519d ago

*edit: I meant Microsoft makes the little announcements and Sony stays silent.

ILostMyMind2519d ago

I agree that Sony will show tons of games but I do not think it should be limited to that. Sony needs to listen to its users and do better on every aspect of the platform that maintains its profits. MS is a terrible company when it comes to developing games (in my opinion) but it is developing a good platform for the future. The Sony's dominance is at risk.

Redemption-642519d ago

And Sony isn't? We are gamers here and if you think MS is going to keep developing terrible games, whiles releasing regular updates is going to threaten Sony, then you are not really interested in gaming. All the changes MS is doing now, are things Sony has been doing since the start of the generation and even before than. Sony has no reason to change, MS I had to do a 180 on almost all their policies. Ms is not the only company building a platform for the future, Sony is also building their, differences is that, Sony just has hell of a lot more games and studios. It's inevitable the PS5 is coming

slate912520d ago

Like Thatguy said, Sony is in a much better spot. MS is still in a good spot, but needs to be doing a lot better with the games. Sony's plan worked out for them last year. MS is making all the right moves right now for the build up. I can't wait!

yeahright22519d ago

Not all the right moves, some right moves, sure but the over reliance on the forza/gears/halo trifecta and game cancellations need to stop before I'd say all the right moves.

Kingthrash3602519d ago

I think the "true 4k" slogan will hurt them tbh. The moment a game launches without a native 4k resolution there will be an uproar.

slate912519d ago

I can understand that perspective. My perspective looks at the cancellation of scalebound as a negative, but it must have stunk up a storm if it needed to be cancelled. Phil's new team's credibility would have taken a big hit if it came out with horrible reviews.
But with 343 not coming with Halo 6 and Coalition not coming with a new gears game, I like the change of pace from the usual.

yeahright22519d ago

@ slate, I hear you there. More my gripe is they don't seem to believe in the new ip. MS doe't get nearly enough credit for trying. I mean they did give us quantum break, recore and others. the problem is if they don't perform the limb is severed and discarded. I'd rather they look at early assassin creed entries. The first was ok at best (same with recore and QB) but the went back and we got some great ezio titles.

As for 343, I thought they just said it won't be a new mainline entry which to me says, still halo, just a spin off. Kinda leaves me disappointed tad.

aconnellan2519d ago

The over reliance on the Forza/gears/halo need to stop? They said there won't be a Halo or Gears game appearing at E3, so I'd say that's a start

XanderZane2519d ago

I thought both Sony and Microsoft's E3 conference was very good last year. Neutral journalist were having a hard time picking a winner. Fanboys, of course, picked their favorite console of choice as the winner. I actually thought Sony's Playstation Experience was better then their E3. I expect both shows will be great this year as well.

UCForce2519d ago

I don't think so. A lot of people said E3 2016 was almost a joke until Sony saved the day.

XanderZane2518d ago

@No one was calling the E3 a joke. Sony didn't save anything, as there was nothing to be saved. Most journalist thought 2016 E3 was fairly close between Sony & Microsoft. Only ones who thought differently were biased rabid fanboys like yourself. Here are some links that prove my point.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...
http://whatculture.com/gami...
http://www.craveonline.com/...
https://www.cnet.com/news/x...

I expect this years E3 will be close once again.

rainslacker2518d ago (Edited 2518d ago )

You're kidding right? Neutral journalist? Which one's were those?

Whatculture and craveonline? You consider them neutral? That cnet reporter doesn't have a single game review or article under his name on the site other than that one. You think he's qualified to write about such things? The youtube guy seems alright, but one example out of 4 which may be unbiased? That's not anywhere close to representative of the media as a whole, and your comment certainly wasn't represented within the overall gaming community.

MS had a half decent showing, but Sony completely blew every conference from that year, and most from prior years completely out of the water.

Both the community and the vast majority of journalist were saying that Sony absolutely killed it last year. The only "neutral" I saw was from the Xbox fan boys trying to say that wasn't the case.

rainslacker2518d ago

All the right moves for a Scorpio release, but all the wrong ones for their current user base. MS didn't have a huge line up of games they released last holiday, and only one mid-tier title this year so far, and by E3, the year will be half over. They're holding back their game announcements to make Scorpio look better.

MS claimed no gamer left behind, which implied they weren't going to abandon the OGX1 user base. While I know they aren't going to do this, they certainly have disregarded them in favor of Scorpio hype. So, a more apt statement from MS would be, no gamer left behind, because we don't really care about the user base we already have enough to bring continuous support until after Scorpio releases.

Darkfist_Flames2520d ago

True, one is hype about games, while the other is hype about a green box with Phil's soothing voice(power of the cloud, canceling is good for gamers, AAA games like Recore xD)

GTgamer2519d ago

You know what they say an empty barrel makes the most noise so that's why I know Sony is gonna murder Ms at E3 because Sony has been quiet.

Kokyu2519d ago

Never heard that before in my life.

AngelicIceDiamond2519d ago

"Sony is gonna murder Ms at E3 because Sony has been quiet." So has MS? Besides nobody needs to murder nobody competition is good quit being childish.

-Foxtrot2519d ago

@AngelicIceDiamond

"So has MS?"

Urm...no. They've been pretty loud, as always

GTgamer2519d ago

@kokyu go hit an empty barrel you'll see

rainslacker2518d ago

MS could still pull off a coup. But Sony has recent and past history on it's side to think they will probably bring something great. But, as we all know, they could fumble as well. But the overall feeling towards PS right now is generally positive, so people are giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I really like Sony's quietude. Sony doesn't need to say much or do a whole bunch of PR hype. Just let the games do the talking and that's it. I really hope their E3 approach is the same as last years.

Microsoft and their execs on the other hand are like that annoying dog that keeps barking and won't shut the f*** up! It just keeps barking until you get sick and tired of hearing it..

Upstate89872519d ago

I agree that I like Sony's quietude.

yeahright22519d ago

That may be true, but it'd be real easy for me to forgive all that barking if their bite is there to back it up. Of course by bite I mean new games. If it's more forza/gears/halo, or BC titles or gamepass rentals... I'll find it hard to be impressed. Scorpio alone won't do anything for me.

trooper_2519d ago

They just do stuff. No flapping of the gums, etc.

Tussin1872519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

Yes silence is good because then if you don't deliver(not saying Sony won't deliver), then no one an really say too much of how you acted beforehand. If things are hyped up and you don't deliver then people are going to be like "that's it". "That's what you hyped up".

I like quiet. That's why I love Rockstar as well. They don't hype their games too much either. They just deliver and if they have to delay a game they will. Hyping up thing too much just lead to disappointment because then everyone is going to be looking at you like an eagle. Slip up once and the Internet will blow up!! You know it will on this site.

I'm going on a media blackout at the end of this month. Not telling anyone what to do but it does make E3 better for me. Especially for the conferences. I've done it for the past few years and will continue to do so this year and beyond. Some of you should give it a try if you want.

Those first few days are the hardest but it gets easier. Trust me lol. If you check out news daily like I do, it can be difficult at times because of the habit of checking. If anyone tries it then let us know if the conferences were better for you since you didn't read every leak on the net before watching them.

UCForce2519d ago

tranquil and reserved are the win, my friend.

rainslacker2518d ago

LOL. After I moved not too long ago, I have one of those dogs next door. It's barking as I type this. Unfortunately, no AC in the house, so keeping the windows open so it's even more annoying. N4G is like the window, and the press reporting on Spencer tweets is them keeping them open.

When you think about it, it's crazy.

Great ideas and success are sometimes born out of defeat.

Eonjay1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Not really, if you buy the largest publisher in North America you should expect to these kind of results. Microsoft only created on game on this list. They just bought the companies that made the others. The appetite of some to see Microsoft as even more of a monopoly is a sickness and its dangerous. We should not equate market consolidation with 'success'.

It is nice, however, to see someone actually buying the games. Some people might feel a certain way about seeing Microsoft on the PlayStation list, but honestly, I'm glad that someone is buying these games. Behind all the fud are actual developers and if no one buys there games, we are just going to see more and more layoffs. So I am happy to see them on the list.

Juancho5121m ago

Microsoft was never good at making games or innovating.

Redemption-641h ago

This is honestly so laughable. Outside of sea of thieves being a new game and releasing in just a few days. COD and Fallout were popular on Playstation long before Microsoft decided to buy them. I have seen bots go from saying Microsoft shouldn't bring Xbox games to Playstation, to using this as a flex. Guess they have accepted Microsoft is moving forward with Playstation with or without them. If this continues, I see the Xbox console selling worse than the S/X

anast1h ago

The next console or the one after that will be a streaming device of some kind.

ravens5255m ago

They'll take it though lmao. It's sad and funny at the same time. No shame lol.

crazyCoconuts3m ago

Irony with the ex-exclusives like Sea of Thieves is the better it does on PS the more likely Phil will bring more over, and therefore the less likely Xbox as a brand will survive.

Futureshark1h ago

Yep won't be long before we see every Xbox title flooding the Playstation store to try to recoup some of that $68.7billion Activision buyout.
Probably won't stay in the best sellers list long though, I would guess Fallout 4 is really back in there as it's on sale at the moment for £4 in the UK and the free PS5 upgrade is out at the end of the month - FOMO.
But yes, Starfield, Hellblade 2 even Gears & Halo will all be there by this time next year, for better or for worse.
Give Playstation fans an even bigger lineup to choose from.

bleedsoe9mm1h ago

It won't be long until every PS game with a PC port will be Xbox as well

Shiro1731h ago

😂 damn sucks tho owning a Xbox right now no lie. No more exclusives defeats the purpose of getting the system.

anast1h ago

It will be a very long time. Sony has the upper hand, and they aren't giving it back unless something catastrophic happens like way over paying for Bethesda.

GamerRN53m ago

Xbox's Preservation Step Sets A Much-Needed Example, Especially For Nintendo

Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"

purple1015d ago

Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”

Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever

Nice one ☝️

Zeref5d ago

It's better than what Nintendo and Playstation is doing. It might not be perfect but at least they are TRYING. Unlike the others.

DarXyde5d ago

Trying? Take off the blinders for a moment, mate.

1. A failure to preserve games is just that: a failure to preserve games. Don't try to sugarcoat it: NO ONE is doing it properly. Better than awful is nothing to write home about.

2. At the time of this comment, isn't it the case that you need an internet connection to play Xbox games even if you buy physical discs that are hardly in circulation anymore? I don't have a Series X and I can't verify, but I think that is correct. I'm fairly certain you can at least play PS5 games at version 1.0 (not much of a win really when many games require day one patches). I think Microsoft's all digital, licensing approach is by far more aggressive than anyone else's. They really try to push you to game pass where you lose your entire library by umm.... Skipping a month of payments.

I don't think anyone is doing it right whatsoever. Don't get me started on Nintendo, who goes after anyone looking to preserve their games better than they ever would with extreme litigation.

Don't be a simp for any of these companies. Get it together.

PhillyDonJawn5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

@DarX never speak on Xbox again. You lost all credibility with your internet connection comment. Smh you have 0 clue and misinformed yet speaking on something you don't no squat about.

Einhander19725d ago

What has Sony done exactly? You guys keep deflecting to Sony but I am not actually seeing any results, and ai am certain nothing that you can come up with even comes close to what Microsoft has done and what they have tried and failed to do, like tie all your disks to your account on xbone.

Microsoft removed their whole indie section when they moved to the xbone because they were going to only allow games on the service that came from a publisher, id@xbox started after xbone launched and it only exists because Sony embraced indie and Microsoft was forced to cancel their plans and reverse course.

And every single game that was part of games for windows live including disk games (I have gta 4 on disk that won't work) so hundreds of games that use that DRM no longer work unless the company themselves patched it out which of course very few did.

MrBaskerville5d ago

Not trying. Tried. they killed of the backcomp program years ago. They set something up again, but sounds like it's more of an attempt to save the current library on whatever they are planning next. With luck they save everything and more, but let's see. I could see them killing off parts of the OG xbox and 360 libraries. Can't imagine that they would allow us to play Forza 5-7 in the future.

With that said, I do like what they've done and really wish they could have done more.

shinoff21834d ago

Zeref

So killing off physical media is trying what exactly. Ms don't really give a fk if you think they do your kidding yourself.

Is that why Hellblade 2 is digital only?

Zeref5d ago

Just because it's digital only doesn't mean you can't preserve it. Just put it on an external and you have the exact same functionality of what a disc does.

MrNinosan5d ago

Guess you're trolling, but if you actually think that's how it works, I'd recommend buying some braincells.

mkis0074d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Volitile vs nonvolitile data. A disc will not corrupt either. A drive can be corrupted.

Einhander19725d ago

This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.

No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.

Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.

Do you know you can put your games on an external and preserve them that way? There are no benefits to discs. ZERO. Idk why some of you are still obsessed with them.

DarXyde5d ago

Because games like Persona 5 exist. It's STILL V1.00. On Playstation, that's a win because 1.00 is installed on the disc—no need to download anything.

If a game does not require any updates, it's all on the disc.

Extremely low bar in the modern era, of course. It's not much of a win by any stretch.

But for now, physical media does have a purpose, at least on Playstation.

Einhander19725d ago

That is factually not how game licensing works, try plugging your hard drive into someone else xbox, It's not going to work, and it won't work if the licensing servers ever go down.

You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership.

Damn how many times do people got to explain your idiocy to you? You can take a copy of Persona 5 like someone used as an example and play that game on ANY console WITHOUT logging in which means I can lend the game to a friend without internet and they can play my game. Can you lend your hard drive to anyone without logging in for them to play? NOPE. That is a huge difference and if you think otherwise then sorry you're an idiot.

"No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft."

Ubisoft is literally erasing games people bought from their libraries... My PS1-3 discs are useless on modern hardware. Nintendo's re-published and resold almost their entire Wii U library, and the eShop is completely dead with no BC mechanism in the Switch software. Microsoft publishes everything they make today day one on Steam and Xbox/Windows. Sony only brings to PC the titles they think you might want some years later and Nintendo won't even design a functional long-lasting joystick.

You're absolutely trolling and not serious if you think Microsoft today is the worst offender.

Yay steam

Not everyone fks with computers though. The disc is still the best way as a console player. Period.

Tacoboto4d ago

How do Sony and Nintendo feel about these discs from 2001-2013?

Don't be stupid, you know Xbox is the best at this today.

Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?

Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.

That is not their plan, their plan is to transfer users accounts to the cloud.

Phil Spencer himself said as much a few months back, plans could have changed but I think people are reading way too much into one statement where Phil said he would allow Epic on xbox because he wants to be able to sell xbox games directly on other platforms. Aka, instead of selling Sea of Thives through PSN he wants to have an xbox store to sell his games on PlayStation without giving PlayStation any money.

Again, it's extremely unlikely that Phil plans to put PC on xbox and licensing would prevent them from just giving out other publishers games purchased on xbox copies of thier games on PC, Microsoft does not own their games.

The thing that doesn't align with the cloud strategy is the giving up on exclusives. You'd still need strong exclusives for cloud streaming - it's still a "platform" , just with a lower upfront hardware investment. I feel like they've learned what PS learned with PSNow long ago. We're not ready to stream games and it's only gonna lose them money to try at this point

I would love that, I'd buy up some of the Xbox games if they could run on PC, like the Rare Replay, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive Ultimate, probably a pipe dream though.
