Halo 3 online 'years ahead' of rivals - ex-Bungie dev

Certain Affinity's Max Hoberman says that Halo 3's Xbox Live features are "years ahead of everything that's out there".

Speaking to about the formation of his Austin-based studio, which is currently working on multiplayer maps for Halo 2, Hoberman also hinted at the levels of secrecy surrounding the project at his former employer, Bungie.

When he originally left Seattle, Hoberman was working remotely for the Halo developer. "Online, UI, planning... All sorts of stuff. I did that for a long time," he says. But that quickly became impossible as the game reached implementation. "They won't even let a build of Halo 3 leave the building," he says.

With a bit of help from Microsoft Hoberman was then able to set up Certain Affinity, whose multiplayer maps are due out this spring. The company is also working on a new, unannounced project. "We're prototyping it on the Xbox 360," says Hoberman - but he won't say much else.

That's right-I said it! I'm off topic-so what!

Halo 2s matchmaking was easily better than anything out there! I cant wait to see how they improved on that! All games should just adopt Bungies online ideas! Would make everything so much easier!

BrotherSic4343d ago

Completely agree, would love to see it used with Gears

Boink4343d ago

in fact it should be mandatory for pretty much any XBL game. it was an amazing matchmaking service, and the party system has yet to be beat.

Halo 2 is how matchmaking should be done for games because it's so far ahead of other methods, and even Bungie agrees it has massive problems that need to be ironed out.

Halo 3 is going to redefine what good matchmaking can be- again.

warcraft 3 has a better system (halo 2 was based on it anyways)

And hopefully other devs are taking note of what Bungie did. Yeah, there's a still few things I would want fixed, but they're minor. I'm still waiting for the ability to play ranked games with multiple people on an xbox, or have ranked clans (where the clan gets the ranking score, not individuals).

I wonder how Killzone's online multiplayer is going to compare to this. This is gonna be interesting to watch.

Why do people keep comparing HALO and Killzone? Not even on the same level. Apples and Oranges guys.

DJ4342d ago

stopped for a while, but now I'm playing Halo 2 a lot more often.
