Project Scorpio / PS4 Pro, Why Should We Be Excited?

It wasn’t too long ago you could buy a console which would last an entire generation. A generation that could last upwards of 10 years, or around 7 or 8 years before a new console would be announced and everyone becomes desperate for a new release. It was great. You give up the ability to play the most high end specs to get longevity. Dump 400 dollars in the unit (or 600 for those of us that bought a PS3 at launch) and it lasts years. No need to worry about “minimum specs” releasing, or if your specific hardware will have the proper features to run a game correctly.

Then things changed and Sony announced a mid-generation slight upgrade with the PS4 Pro. While Microsoft denied they would follow suit they eventually did with Scorpio, which is releasing later this year. We didn’t even make it 3 years into the generation and they already want to push new hardware out.

Excellent article! I'm glad common sense and rational thinking still exists, even if most people have lost it because they are either blinded by fanboyism or they have money to burn...

Terrible article, people wanted something more midway through last gen and sony listened. The slim model still outsells the pro and frame rate issues are nothing new on console, why not let those that want a better experience have it and stop being so salty. OP is so salty he calls the pro a slight upgrade but then acts like the old model is now crap.

Why should we be excited for the pro when it's already out.

What a stupid rant. He's saying we had a bunch of games at the end of the last generation compared to what we have today. Really?? Comparing a new gaming generation of 3 yrs to one that lasted nearly 10?? Seriously???....

He also states that they are "forcing" us to upgrade...since when? If that were true then all my games would suddenly stop working. Both companies would announce every future game to only be playable in the pro/Scorpio version which thay haven't and aren't going to...
Which brings me the tired argument of "why buy a scorpio if it has no games?" how can you state that they are forcing you to upgrade and then say there are no games for it when every game currently available is playable but at a higher resolution and frame rate? Seems like he wants games only playable on the pro machines in which case then yes that would be a way to "force" you to upgrade.

He complains that it's turning into the cell phone market which is kind of true but people don't seem to have a problem buying a new iphone with slight enhancements every year...since he seems so against it then i gather he must be using a flip phone with a robust vga camera. 😁

Probably won't happen for PS+ since Sony makes a clear distinction between a PS4 game and a PS5 game, unlike PC and Xbox where it is not a specific device game (It's now always an Xbox game).

So to make the PS5 game of fallout 4 available. Bethesda would need to renegotiate the complete deal with Sony.
hence why there's often only the PS4 version of the game available on PS+.

Let's hope Bethesda and Sony can arrive to term quickly.

I think a hard copy should be relatively cheap at this point.
