Disgaea's developer, Nippon Ichi, has carved out a bit of a niche creating quirky but complex turn-based strategy across titles such as La Pucelle and Phantom Brave. Disgaea, however, remains the jewel in its crown of quirkiness. There have been two games prior to Absence of Justice. The original, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness appeared on the PlayStation 2 back in 2003, with a sequel, Cursed Memories, appearing in 2006. In some respects, they're fairly typical turn-based titles: build up a team of characters and fight across grid-based environments, one turn at a time. In most respects, however, they're wholly unconventional.
