My Beautiful, Perfect Child Deleted My 40-Hour Persona 5 Save

Kotaku: One minute my five-year-old was giggling along with the playful antics of Yooka-Laylee on the PlayStation 4. The next he was in Persona 5, erasing over 35 hours of Phantom thievery in the blink of an eye. It's the closest I've come to crying over a video game in years.

One positive is the writer can get to experience those parts of the game all over again.

I remember hiding my save card with original Nintendo games from my brothers and sister.

I gotta ask though...Cloud save anyone? It's automatic! If it gets deleted, just go to the cloud and retrieve.

ravinash2568d ago

He had just switch over to PS4 pro, so the cloud save had not worked since then. Bummer!

JackBNimble2567d ago (Edited 2567d ago )

I guess he should have backed up his save to the cloud server

Ravinash
Are you saying the cloud servers don't work on the pro?

That's silly reasoning. The writer always had that ability, whether the saves were deleted by accident or not. The issue is that the writer does not have a choice anymore. Change your sentence to 'One positive is the writer HAS to experience those parts of the game all over again'. Does that statement ring true? Is it positive if you don't have the choice?

I loved the Witcher 3, and was about 99% done in the main game, DLC not included. I finished all side quests, and was in the last 2 missions. Then my save got deleted. Let me tell you, I had a blast experiencing that game, but it will take me a while before I start it over again.

Glemt2564d ago

@ Jeece. That's a sad reply. What are you trying to tell me? I use cloud save all the time, but the GOG version of The Witcher does not use cloud save. So if you're used to playing games on Steam, and get used to cloud saves, this could happen to you too.

Cloud save.

"Unfortunately I had recently transferred data from a regular PlayStation 4 to a PlayStation 4 Pro, and despite auto cloud saving being enabled, nothing had been uploaded since before the move."

noelo2568d ago

That's why i always prefer physical media over digital downloads. I also do backups on an SSD drive just in case something goes wrong on the digital end. You never "own' your digital media. Eventually something goes wrong and you may loose access to a game and then find out that it no longer available for sale, for example I lost Marvel vs Capcom & Tretris CE during an snafu when I transferred my profile from my dead Phat PS3 (after 7 yrs of constant use). when I tried to purchase them again they where no longer available in PSN. Luckily I still have a Japanese import I can play in one of my 2 Dreamcast consoles with a loading disc. It plays great! Unfortunately I can't play Tetris CE on the PS3 anymore.

Th3o2568d ago

@noelo

You guys are the vegetarians of gaming.

Goldby2567d ago

@Noelo

cool story bro, but what does physical or digital media have to do with the cloud save?

littletad2568d ago

Doesn't always work, I lost my Dark CLoud 3 cloud save data when I transferred to an xbox one s. It happens, and it's not perfect.

_-EDMIX-_2568d ago

"Dark CLoud 3 cloud save data when I transferred to an xbox one s"

Trying to understand how you got Dark Cloud 3 on an XONE lol

I mean....I'm trying to figure out how you got Dark Cloud 3 PERIOD! lol

Yokan2568d ago

How did you get you're hands on Dark Cloud 3!!?
What the hell is an Xbox One S?

TheColbertinator2568d ago

@littletad

Did you also play Witcher 2 on PS3?

littletad2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

Lmao, I meant Dark Souls 3, for some reason the save file didn't transfer because it was stored onto two seperate parts. Believe me, I even called customer service twice, I was pissed. Not only did it NOT transfer, but the cloud save had only uploaded the faulty save. It was the weirdest thing to ever happen to me, in losing game data. I still haven't restarted, even despite the DLC. And lol, I would love to play Dark Cloud 3, typo obviously, but I do have Dark Cloud 2 to tide me over on Ps4.

thejigisup2568d ago

Ahh teh powa of da clowwdddd

CrimsonWing692568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

Maybe Sony handles cloud save transferring better? I didn't lose anything going from a PS4 to a PS4 Pro and I'm sure you meant Dark Souls 3 but cmon man... take a second to proof read you posts cuz now you look like you're making things up.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

What the hell? Why are there so many people commenting on this site when they know next to nothing about gaming?

Th3o2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

cloud saving can be problematic

Thank sony for cloud saves also with the auto switched on. Anyway that's why I dont let my nephew touch me my stuff.

Lynx02072568d ago

Who cares? Play again, the game is amazing. You should be thankful for what he did.

littletad2568d ago

Kinda hard when you have kids, family, and work. 40 hours is a lot of time to invest all over again. If you're younger, sure it's just simple time lost, but much harder as you get older. Life happens.

2568d ago
Chaos_Order2568d ago

Exactly. As an adult who often works 60 hours a week, (plus overtime) I often wonder to myself if I will ever be able to play all the games I want to play and read all the books I want to read before I die. Somehow, no matter how much I try, I don't think I ever will. :/ But I FINALLY after years and years got around to reading 1984. Masterpiece of a novel. Before the year's end I'm determined to finish Persona 5 and read Clarissa.

Lynx02072567d ago

No sir, you just have a stick in your a**. I have family, work etc... I understand not having time for games perfectly. But what I mean is there is no reason to rush till the end of the game, just play again and enjoy it once more. Why people always just want to finish the game as soon as possible, not just enjoying in? Who knows when next Persona will happen?

Cartman551252567d ago

I remember in college I would pick up a game at launch and have it finished within days. Now, I'm lucky if I finish a game within a month.

Sorta a big deal. That is a LOT of time lost.

Owning my own business, I find myself litereally having to GIVE myself days off to play certain games, I'm even looking to make a second business and actually hire staff so I have at least some free time to game. I just don't play RPGs more then once anymore. I haven't played an RPG for the second time, literally in YEARS! The last RPG I think I played twice was Fallout 3, I got to wait like 10 years before playing one twice lol

but Littletad is correct, when your an adult and have bills, work etc, that simply not what many might want to spend ANOTHER 40 hours doing. That really sucks too. I like Persona enough that I'd likely play it over, but it would be pretty damn tough. A lot of that time might have been grinding too.

ColonelHugh2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

On the bright side, the author can use fast forward to get through most of the story, and correct any possible mistakes while doing it.

CrimsonWing692568d ago

Not everyone has time to replay a long game. Especially at the rate that game releases are happening. Also it's a psychological effect as well having spent all that time in a game only To have it all lost... I mean it takes the piss out of ya.

Lynx02072567d ago

Really. If a game is really good, why you want to finish it so quickly? If you play only for the story and not enjoy just the act of playing, watch YT instead.

KwietStorm_BLM2567d ago

Because he already put in 40 hours that he has to do *again.* That's the point. It's not about finishing quickly, which sure as hell doesn't fit my definition of quickly anyway, but it's the fact that all his progress is lost. Why in the hell would I be thankful for that? I could delete my save at any time I wanted to if that's what I found fun for some reason.

Sea of stars while seeming pretty good so far doesn't belong in the top rpg discussion. There's way better ones. I'd tell them to play star ocean 2. One of the best non turn based rpgs ever. It has everything.

raWfodog125d ago

And if the list is limited to just turn-based RPGs, I can think of better ones to add to this list. You have the Dragon Quest series, the Trails series…Persona 5 Royale is on the list but why limit it to just that one? P3 and P4 were great as well.

Zenzuu126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

The Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, or the Shadow Hearts games has decent enjoyable turn based combat system.

Would be plus+1 more if they'd settle the fk down and stop re releasing it. I'm waiting on the definitive one over here

BrainSyphoned305d ago

It's ok, I bought 4 to your zero, they don't need your pity purchase. Every version was definitive and has their own perks.
